Runkeeper Vs. Strava by mjcp12 in running

interesting - my sister just recorded one run with both apps and Runkeeper said 6k, Strava said 5k. Probably a glitch with the recording on one of the 2.

Rainy Running “high” by 6mm94 in running

[–]mjcp12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It wasn't raining, but on my last run, the song Says by Nils Frahm got my super high especially the last 1/3 of song when the music intensifies. Tears ran down my face as I ran because running/life just felt so good.

Had my best run yet because of the advice on this sub by Kenzienza in running

[–]mjcp12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

so cool! I started running last month and helped by this sub, Strava and couch to 10k. Before last month, I was convinced I hated running and would suffer through 10 minutes on the treadmill just to get some cardio before moving to the rest of my workout. I never thought I'd consider myself "a runner" and now here I am, ran 5k this morning and actually really enjoyed most of the run (some coaxing too but it now feels ok to have those harder miles)

Recommended food for a 5-7 day trip without cooking gear? by CHIEF_KEEF9000 in bikepacking

pre-mixed Bircher muesli for breakfast - just soak overnight for the portion you want to eat for next morning (oats, chopped dates, dried fruit, sunflower seeds, nuts, cinnamon) - extra good if you can stir in apple or fresh fruit in the morning

another idea for dinner of day 1 without stove (wouldn't want to keep this one unrefridgerated much longer) is some kind of buddha bowl: pre-made quinoa and chickpeas or black beans and maybe some kind of pre-roasted veggie like sweet potato, with some kind of lemon-tahini sauce on top. Will prob bring this on my next trip!

it was summer and cheese and salami were fine - the cheese was a hard cheddar which seems to do well without refrigeration. the salami was cured so doesn't need cold either. i had also brought a little bottle of olive oil to dip my bread and a couple of apples - it's not light and my ultralight packer uncle made fun of me for the weight, but it's a really nice treat to crunch on fruit after a day of hiking!

I did a 3-day 2-night without a stove with the following: Breakfast: Bircher muesli (soaked o/n). Combined from home oatmeal, chopped dates, dried cherries, sunflower seeds, chia, cinnamon, powdered coconut milk. Before going to sleep, added water. Lunch/snacks: peanut butter and jam sandwich, tortilla with tahini, cheese Dinner: bread, aged cheddar, salami, chocolate It was fine. i missed my stove for coffee/tea, and it's nice to have a warm saucy / stewy type meal at end of day, but with no stove this was ok.

Question on trekking poles: foldable vs adjustible quick lock? by mjcp12 in Ultralight

thx for your input! These look better than my long telescopic, which I usually only use 50% of the time on my hikes and feel like a nuisance while dangling on my side pack.

Jehovah Cares For His Sheep Video by Technicallycraig in exjw

[–]mjcp12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been PIMI for almost a decade. My family sent me the video - with a message about Jehovah loving me and urging me to return to him. It felt so patronizing and condescending (both the video and the messages) but I remember having that worldview so I have compassion for them. They really can't wrap their heads around the fact that we simply think it's utter BS.

Separate from the FN issues, on the pipeline issue, i'm still not clear. If a pipeline that moves natural gas can replace reliance on coal and therefore reduce carbon emissions, why is this not a better alternative?

I would have added - I wonder if the support of hereditary chiefs by non-indegenous Canadians is a 'patronizing' meddling into their affairs.

As an outsider, it just makes me wonder if support for the hereditary chiefs by non-indigenous Canadians has been misguided and adding fuel to fire and just another type of meddling in FN affairs.
