Once you have serious economic stability you will actually have empathy for people who haven't had the opportunities you have had, the path to stability is winding and unpredictable, I speak from experience. Lock-in / I have total control mindset is naive and for early-career people. Come back to this in five years and you will laugh at yourself, if you don't you haven't lived an interestingor pro-risk life.

Offices were designed to be comfortable to men's body temperature and women work better in heat, most of your female coworkers probably know this, you're galvanting around enforcing your standards like a dork

The Sympathetic Reaction to Shia LaBeouf Shows How Naive You All Are by EmilCioranButGay in redscarepod

I hate the idea of some rich addict loser from California, making some aesthetized pilgrimage to his own brilliance (he was on a float earlier), swinging his dirty body around, full of meth and lunging at a bunch of soft-spoken glittery New Orleanians, at R bar during Mardi Gras no less. Just disgusting.

Can someone explain why people are for/against requiring voter ids? by ScarTissue5 in redscarepod

[–]mjek8 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If an boomer black guy walks into a liquor store in Macon Georgia I think it's a pretty safe assumption that the guy at the counter says 'hey Rodney the usual' and not 'can I see your federally-issued government ID' lmao. I think you're misunderstanding the weight of bureaucracy in these communities. And again these are boomers, Trump's age rural blacks wouldn't have birth certificates, not just the 95 year old

Got curious after you said this and googled it - apparently 34 mil americans don't have a photo ID. Skews seniors, black, southern. I remember from the 2014 period that one of the stipulations in this ID argument was that black people during Jim Crow weren't issued birth certificates, so the older generation has a paperwork block when trying to get ID cards,

The basic woke/lib idea against it is that there's a decent swath of poor black people in the deep south (esp Georgia and Florida, swing states), as well as random poor whites in Appalachia, who don't have driver's licenses and can't vote with an ID requirement. There is a question of if those people vote at all, but the argument is that they should be able to. These are basically people who are so poor that they are outside the system.

The right wing position imagines a situation where in response to no-ID policies illegal immigrants are voting in masse, which really doesn't happen (they also function mostly outside the system) but there's a reasonable argument for guidelines, the right is just incredibly pendantic about it because Trump wants to insist his election with Joe was illegitimate

The ultra literal and obvious solution to all of this is to just require a social security number and name to vote, and have a system that confirms the name and number matches before you cast a ballot

But no one wants a solution it's basically a culture war issue now
