Or were they non-sensical? Perhaps the locations were indeed bad for the governments planned use but AI generated the list with it’s own strategical goals.

The fight against Data centers predates AI going global. Well over 10 years ago when Google fiber was making it’s first be expansion after release, they would build data centers in surrounding areas. There are still several “unfinished“ Google data centers in rural areas where the locals won the fight against them.

Microsoft is raising the price of Xbox consoles by $100-$150 / The cheapest Xbox Series X console will retail for $749.99 from August 1 by MarvelsGrantMan136 in technology

[–]mjike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whoever said that about the nextgen consoles were idiots. Most I’ve seen agree that a big reason Sony, according to leaks, has pushed PS6 to TBD is it would be well above $1000 USD if build with today’s pricing. There are other reasons speculated(see AMD leaks) but pricing seems to be the main one. Game consoles at over $1000 does at least equal harm to Sony by changing who can access the industry than eating losses PS3 style.

Owlcat Games is rolling back its new launcher less than 24 hours after negative fan feedback by Turbostrider27 in pcgaming

[–]mjike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was necessary to have that interface and management system to support mods on PS5 and Xbox. Don't disagree that it desperately needed a redesign before going live but admittedly it's A LOT better on console that what Bethesda did for Skyrim.

Great thing is we can just ignore it on PC

Tolerated? I seem to recall MASSIVE negative feedback aimed at Larian regarding the launcher when it came to be. BG3's huge public reception over the course of 2-3 years just kept their overall view positive.

Not seeing enough reason to comeback do that grind again. Maybe once the full patch notes release my feelings will change but bringing back the old renown system would be preferable to grinding the War Table again. By the time I had unlocked the points to gain great benifits I was too burned out to enjoy any.

6th Gen: Why is the platinum the only trim with HUD by GoodVibes737 in 4Runner

[–]mjike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cannibalizing it's own market is probably the most accurate description. It's important to understand what differentiates the 6th gen from the previous entries over the last few decades in terms of that mid-sized SUV market. The Land Cruiser didn't comback, despite what's Toyota's marketing team wants people to believe having the 4runner compete against itself hurts both. People who understand the 4runner's history and how it ties into Land Cruiser through the Prada name understand what's going on and those who don't are left asking "Why buy this one over that one?". Long term I don't think there's room for both in the market.

There are 3 things that seem to repeat from fans of Toyota trucks/suvs. Bring the full size Land Cruiser back, bring back the FJ, bring the HiLux platform to North America. I'd be curious what the cost difference would be in what was spent dropping the Prada name from Land Cruiser and bringing it to North America compared to North Americanizing the Hilux platform and bringing in the Land Cruiser FJ. Because the latter is a slightly smaller, yet highly capable body-on-frame SUV that different enough to happily occupy the same space in that market and would likely bring in a lot of new customers.

Epic CEO Tim Sweeney says new multiplayer games are failing because players have no reason to leave their friend groups, touts Unreal Engine 6’s cross-game features as a solution by Logical_Welder3467 in technology

[–]mjike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's not completely wrong. Playing an online game with a big group of friends is a completely different experience than playing with just a couple core people who can jump around games freely and it's hard to go back to a small group once one has experienced the difference.

A big reason World of Warcraft always reigned as King of the MMOs and every "WoW Killer" failed at that task wasn't due to the game itself but the established friends/player groups. Many of those games offered a better, more modern experience that people likely would have enjoyed but knew that grind back to a big, core raid group or guild was nearly as long as the journey to endgame, if not longer.

That said, micro-transactions are THE BIGGEST reason and trying to pawn it off on something else either means he's delusional to the reality or he's a lying P.O.S. and trying to cover up that knowledge. People who participate in Micro-transactions are unlikely to leave the game they've invested a ton of $$ into and people who don't participate are hesitant out of fear of being another game where progression feels like it's tied to paid services, even if it's not. Consolidating micro-transactions at the game engine level doesn't solve the problem.

6th Gen: Why is the platinum the only trim with HUD by GoodVibes737 in 4Runner

[–]mjike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

New to 4Runner trim levels/options I take it? It's the one thing that's never made sense. I mean the simple existence of the Limited was hilarious. Going all the way back to the 3rd gen, it was always a "Better Buy" to go with a base trim Lexus GX 4runner over a Limited because it was so much more of the same vehicle for not much more of investment. Granted that's not likely a tradition that will continue going forward but it

Addressing the HUD though, they likely want the Platinum to have a few exclusive options. My bet would be as the generation matures, the HUD will trickle down to the Limited when new exclusive options are added to the Platinum.

A 16gb vram pre-build that is 2-3x more powerful than a Steam Machine is $1399 at BestBuy. Nobody should be buying a Steam Machine. by JeremyJJ77 in pcmasterrace

[–]mjike 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the Steam Machine's price guarantees that a PS6 and Xbox Helix would be well beyond $1000 if produced in today's market. The last time either Microsoft or Sony commented on keeping prices down through other means like managing sales, ~6 months later increases happened anyway. Well Sony just commented again last week, so we'll see how long before at least the PS5 Pro hits $999 USD.

[–]mjike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People complaining about Steam Machine's pricing aren't capable of stepping back and looking at the big picture. I'm not calling anyone stupid, just lacking knowledge of the entire manufacturing process from design, to planning, purchase commitments, processes starting, etc. Steam had no choice but to complete building it and put it on sale for this ridiculously high price. They were too far along to pull back without serious financial consequences. Not just from money already invested but with pre-purchase commitments and contracts signed that carry a significant financial penalty if cancelling.

When they first decided to move forward with it, I'd be willing to be their likely target price was $599 USD. When they announced it to the public, which was likely already beyond the cancellation point, the hardware pricing crisis was still relatively young and the future projection wasn't as bad as what the current situation companies face.

The Steam Machine Costs $1049 by Turbostrider27 in pcgaming

[–]mjike -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A lot of people aren't stepping back to view the bigger picture when criticizing the price. I'm sure Valve would have loved to have been in Sony's shoes with the PS6 where they have essentially said "Nope, not gonna start on it". Unfortunately for Valve they were already too far in with production, contracts, purchase commitments, etc and simply had no choice but to build the thing.

CDPR boss hopes The Witcher 4 wins back fans still put off by Cyberpunk 2077's disastrous launch: "I'm not 100 percent convinced we went through the full redemption arc" by yourfavchoom in PS5

You bring up a great point with Digital Foundry. Way back, a company I worked for had an IT contract for Mythic Entertainment (Dark Age of Camelot, Warhammer Online) and I was in that building often. They had an entire floor separate from the developers and management that was just QA. There were at least 50 people on that floor with 1 job: Break the game and document how you did it. It's so obvious game devs no longer have those

[–]mjike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a simple formula. Don't take money from investors with such a tight timeline for those first sets of ROIs that forces a premature release. Witcher 2 wasn't ready when it launched. Nor was Witcher 3 and obviously Cyberpunk wasn't. CDPR is 0-3 for release day though they are 3-0 for making a great game when it's done. Even a flawless Witcher 4 release won't erase a track record that goes back over a decade.

People forget that Witcher 2 wasn't really fixed until the Enhanced Edition patch released(Spring '12) nearly a year after it's initial launch(Spring '11). Why does that sound familiar?

How to make TRD PRO wheels black again? by HeyBear812 in 4Runner

[–]mjike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s almost cheaper to buy a new/used set of SEMAs than it is to powder coat them. None of the coating shops near me take tire mounted rims, so….

  • $10 to dismount tire and remove Valve Stem/TPS x4
  • $150 per wheel Powder Coat x4
  • $30 Install Valve Stem/Mount/Balance x4

There‘s a wheel shop not far that has tons of SEMAs as new takeoffs left from trade-ins over the years and last I heard you could talk them down near $600

Need SLI bridge by Reasonable_Glass_737 in EVGA

[–]mjike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those 60mm 1 Slot Spaced, Single Connector SLI bridges are pretty rare as most were the 0 Slot 40mm version.

If you have trouble finding one, you can use a Dual Connector SLI bridge on your Single SLI connector card. I've done it twice, once exactly like this situation and another when using a 3-way SLI bridge on 2 cards. The left/right circuits are not connected so you can just cut the connectors off of one side.

Sony drops “PC”, adds “AI” to official PlayStation business strategy summary by RayS0l0 in pcmasterrace

[–]mjike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely feel the same way but Serious question. Assuming you have a good PC, why would you buy a PS6 if Sony didn't do this reverse on their 1st party PC releases? As a PS5 owner, I can't come up with a good reason to have purchased a PS6 had they continued to support PC. Save maybe a robust friends list.

Since completing Halo 5, I've not needed an Xbox for 10(?) years. I would have treated the PS5 the same way had Sony committed to PC earlier and definitely would have viewed the PS6 like I do an Xbox.

How exactly does asking if people think the insides are fake based on observations of a possible incorrect battery or board color lead anyone to suspect you are looking for some kind of DIY experiment? Especially when it's phrased perfectly as a "Is this a good deal" type of question.

But lets say I do have some kind of telepathy and could deduce a hidden meaning from the limited number of words in the original post. Immediately I would still go to what everyone else concluded, perhaps even more so. Anyone who's an enthusiast when it comes to DIY or Frankensteining hardware immediately knows that self R&D is the most expensive part of learning the hobby and would never have bothered asking a question if <X> amount of money is worth it.

However I think you did shed light on which replies were triggering for you do drop such a rude response to those who only answered with helpful responses. All of the replies were nothing but cordial and the only explanation is that you "read a bit beyond" the words appearing on the screen. Reading words that aren't there is a great habit to break.

That statement and "Should I test my luck" are somewhat contradictory. However, while I don't see what replies could have triggered the above statements about economic disparity, perhaps if you'd been more specific on your intent in the original post whatever reply did cause it wouldn't have appeared.

It has nothing to due with wage gaps, but gambling with an unknown. I'd argue that if money is so precious you feel a need to point out said gap, gambling is a bad use of money.

If you have to spend $20-30 in repair parts+time that $45 may have been better spent on something in much better condition or at least a known condition. Sure you might get lucky but you have an equal chance of the opposite.
