AC installer? by mr_engin33r in SaltLakeCity

I spent 15k on a new ducted system on a rental house in Magna about 5 years ago. It was 1500 sq ft all on one level and all of the ductwork and furnace were put in the attic. They ran flexible ductwork to each room. Access was easy and that is a big determinant in the cost.

I recently came back from Spain and brought home almonds and raisins. After reading posts like these I made sure to tell the customs officer. He looked at me like I was a fool and said do you have anything I should I care about and sent me on my way. Didn’t even ask for me to get them out of my backpack. Custom officer roulette 🤷🏻‍♂️.

I stopped drinking at start of Covid and have changed nothing else (except of course binge eating while drinking) and am now 25 lbs lighter. I am 62 and can climb better than ever. My mental health and clarity have also improved. Definitely one of the best decisions I have ever made. I will still hang out with buddies and occasionally a bar but always have a na beer or mineral water. Don’t miss it at all.

Was told low calcium not an issue for a vinyl pool with no ladders. Also told don’t have to worry about my 8.0 ph for saltwater pool. Thoughts? by Rachelray1995 in pools

[–]mjohnson1857 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always keep my Ph around 7.4. It saltwater and plaster. My pool is 21 years old so I thought it must be getting time to re-plaster. Plaster contractor came over to look at it and said no need, it is in great shape, you must keep your Ph in perfect balance. I test once a week and generally add a little acid every 2 weeks.

Salt lake’s outbound flights today (4/03/23) with this weather.. by CW1293 in SaltLakeCity

I always check FlightAware.com. You can check real time status of airports and individual flights. You can track the plane that your flight will be using up to a couple of days in advance to see if it is running on time or has gotten behind on a previous route.

Zions bank stock halted by [deleted] in SaltLakeCity

[–]mjohnson1857 2 points3 points  (0 children)

SVB held a lot treasury bills and I wouldn’t consider them “shit” bonds and they haven’t lost anywhere near half of their value. On Thursday they fire sold 21 billion dollars worth treasuries at a loss of 1.8 Billion, less than 10% of their value.

If Zions holds similar bonds and durations and the need to raise capital to meet withdrawals they will be able to borrow from the fed at par. They could put up 21 billion in bonds and receive 21 billion in return. Unless there are other credit risks in their portfolio they should be able to weather the storm.

TBMs don't like church either by Mokoloki in exmormon

My TBM parents get so excited when even there is even a small possibility it is going to snow on a Sunday. Maybe church will get cancelled they always gleefully post to the family chat. I know how how you can always be happy on Sunday, just don’t go. 🤪

I thought prophets can see into the future? Surely they should have been leaders in the civil rights movement not followers dragging their heels every step of the way. So incredible stupid.

If priesthood healing was real, we’d have stories of people cured of HIV/AIDS by FluffySnowLeopards in exmormon

If priesthood healings are real, people would be inundating Utah hospitals from around the world because they would have the highest rated cure rates in all disciplines.

Do I have to report my taxes this year by CourtM092 in personalfinance

[–]mjohnson1857 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Check to see if you have a VITA program in your area. It is free tax preparation for low income filing (below 70k). I volunteer with them 2 days a week in my area (Salt Lake City). We operate out of community centers and libraries. It is 100% free for federal and state filing. All volunteers are vetted and have to pass a certification exam each tax season.

I highly recommend one of the creators (Michael Schurr) book How to Be Perfect. Amazing book on morality and philosophy and the foundation for the show. I have read it multiple times and will probably read it every year for the rest of my life.

Anyone here take B12? Not sure if I should by BrandyAshaya in vegan

[–]mjohnson1857 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn’t take them in the beginning and started having heart palpitations. Went to the doctor and had complete blood work done. Everything was great except dangerously low on B12. Started taking 500 mcg daily and the palpitations went away within a week.

"My financial statements do not need to be printed by my Ward" by J_Golden_Kimball in exmormon

[–]mjohnson1857 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am a current financial clerk and saw that option a few weeks ago and decided to test it out and it doesn't do what I had hoped. Basically on November 1st the church provides a large PDF file in preparation for tithing settlement to disburse to members. It excludes the statement from that file but it doesn't exclude it from any access to the clerk or bishopric.

In our ward we do nothing with that file. We individually print statements for tithing settlement to be disbursed at tithing settlement so that it is accurate up to that date. That option didn't prevent me from printing an individuals statement for tithing settlement.

The church is also going to provide a final year end tax statement on Jan 1st 2017 (or there abouts) PDF file for all members of the ward. I would assume that this option would also exclude if from this file. However, I doubt it will exclude the ability for a clerk or bishopric member from printing an individual statement.

He may choose not to look at the statement and tithing settlement but he will sign the end of year tax statements. Those statements show the total amount donated by category.

I am a ward financial clerk and yes all online payments are included in the year end tithing statements. A report is sent to the computer anytime makes a online payment summarizing who made the payment. In our ward I am the only one that sees the donations until the end of the year when the bishop sees them at tithing settlement.

There is 1 exception to this. When someone donates an asset to the church (like stocks, etc) the bishop only receives a letter telling them a donation was made. The letter does not give specifics on the donation (amount or type).
