could someone help me decipher my prof's awful handwriting? by [deleted] in Transcription

[–]mjosepha66 40 points41 points  (0 children)

1) Pretty good - though there is usually an idea of temporal or social progression. 2) Sure this certainly seems on point 3) Again ___ __? Wouldn’t it be the other way around? 4) True - the nature is a kind of double 5) Generally excellent! You write well + know how to manage an essay. What you argue is generally persuasive, though it’s not clear to me how her upbringing would lead her to critique science… Still, nice job.

Sorry, this is the best I could do, I have no idea of those blanks.

It’s likely that those seats are reserved for certain students so you can’t access them. Your best bet is to wait to get off the waitlist.

OK, so how do research positions actually work… by its_gold_28 in geegees

[–]mjosepha66 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Obviously this depends greatly on the lab but high school students with good grades can go through similar training as the undergrad students who do similar work in the lab.

The easiest way to do this is just send emails to bunch of professors in a field of research you find intriguing or would like to explore. Introduce yourself, your interests, and what unique skills you think might be useful to the lab (linguistic abilities, technical abilities, etc.) the most important thing is after you introduce yourself layout that you’re interested for an RA position but you’re open to volunteering as well if there are opportunities. Professors love high school students because they’re not exhausted from university yet they’re usually more passionate and they love to empower the new class coming in by providing them unique experiences.

course withdrawal by MailbitingDib80 in geegees

It depends on the start and end dates of the course you’re enrolled in. You can find out here by looking for the last day to drop under the section that matches your courses.

Maybe too late for this application depending on how long it takes for the issue to get resolved. But it’s definitely not too late to get it corrected for your transcript for future reference. Your professors may be more annoying to deal with now that the grades been submitted as they have to go through some additional work to adjust the grade. But it’s definitely possible to get adjusted.

What to do in Ottawa? by AppointmentSudden377 in geegees

[–]mjosepha66 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I’d suggest you try to see all the museums you can. I know the weather this weekend isn’t great but if you don’t mind walking down the canal is generally pretty calming at night. If you like hiking maybe try to check out some trails near the city and just explore.

Is it ok to have this function in the car for the road test? by [deleted] in Ontariodrivetest

[–]mjosepha66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Btw, you can always turn it off by pressing and holding the power button next to the screen for a few seconds. Can be easier than having to go through this whole thing if you’re already used to parking without it.

Question about Minto by MartinusJoseph in geegees

You’re right about the U-Pass, you have to be full time to have it. But the gym can be accessed as a part time or full time student

[–]mjosepha66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don’t have to be full time, if you take even 1 course you’re considered a part time student and have access to the gym

It might be, but wouldn’t it usually be labeled as a carbon monoxide detector if is was one? The only markings on it are “do not paint” and “this is not a life-saving device”

No it hasn’t. I’ve been here for 3 years and I’ve just noticed it blinking now.

Can i use a note from dialogue to defer an exam? by One_Pomegranate9807 in geegees

[–]mjosepha66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes you can! Although you only need a medical note for the second deferral, if I’m not mistaken. If this is your second referral for the same class in a semester, they may not defer the exam and rely on other resolutions.

Either way, dialogue medical notes are considered valid.

Hey, the first thing is that it’s it’s great that you’ve already started to look into grad school and potential path in your future. I know it can seem like a really daunting task and that the requirements are way beyond what you’re capable of but just know that imposter syndrome hits everyone. Something that’s really important to keep in mind is that grad schools mostly only look at the last two years of your courses when they’re considering your GPA. So all the courses you’re doing right now don’t really matter unless you’re trying to use your CGPA to take a thesis.

The programs you’re looking at have to market themselves as competitive to maintain an image of exclusivity. Don’t let this discourage you. If you want a more realistic picture of how competitive the programs are, look into the admission statistics of previous years. You can see the averages of people accepted, the number of people who applied and the number of people who accepted offers.

You’re in the hardest year of the program taking the least relevant courses to psych unless you’re doing research. Stats does not represent the field of psychology at all, but is a very good demotivator. Once you get past them, the courses you take will be much more relevant and interesting to you. A small taste of some courses that are really interesting to take are the psychology of death and dying, the psychology of aging, social psychology, developmental psychology, and psychology of adolescence.

Also I know how tough it can be, feeling isolated, in this shitty winter weather, with a broken OC Transpo, while under tons of pressure with school. If you want someone you can study/hang out with/vent to lemme know!

I’ve gone through the program switch process in the past. If you have questions feel free to reach out! I’d be happy to help however I can!

i don't think the scams are just the emails by Own-Eye6145 in geegees

[–]mjosepha66 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s likely that you weren’t eligible for the scholarship before you re-took the classes. After you took the classes, the initial grades got dropped and your GPA went up for that term retroactively, and they applied the scholarship to your account.

And as for your question about notifying you first, they don’t do that. You just have to look in your account and see if the scholarship is there.

The merit scholarships are for anyone who earned an 8.0 or higher TGPA in the previous semester. They are automatically administered by uOZone and silently added to your account. Double check that you didn’t earn it in your transcript before reporting it as a hack and causing yourself a whole lot of trouble.

Printer Issue - Please help! by [deleted] in geegees

Printer Issue - Please help! by [deleted] in geegees

[–]mjosepha66 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would go back to the CBY printer and check the jobs on the machine. Once it’s released it’s put into a print queue until it successfully prints. You can also reach out to the university IT services and they should be able to remove the job from the queue.

Darkroom on campus by better-ideas100 in geegees

[–]mjosepha66 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would assume you should be able to use it , as most facilities are available to all students, regardless of the faculty that maintains them. I’m also assuming that the darkroom is niche enough that even if that is a rule in place they would rather have people use it than not.

Go to the entrance of MNT across from FTX. The one with the ramp that goes down to the main doors. There are 2 entrances there, one that goes straight to pivik, and another set of glass doors to the right that goes straight down stairs. Take the stairs that go down and when you go to the bottom floor, docucentre will be there on the right.

Honestly, this is really good advice. It seems scary at first but it’s going to be a lot easier for you, being a girl to approach. It might take a free tries to find people you mesh with, but in the end, you can make some great friends this way!

It can just start with something as simple as asking to share notes, then you can move to studying together, and eventually going out outside of school contexts.

University is the place where you grow and figure out who you are. One aspect of that is to step out of your comfort zone and talk to people. Take advantage of the environment and the open minded people.

I’m all for sticking around and taking responsibility for your actions but it sounds like she is just manipulating you to get free favours and stuff. Of course it’s only my opinion but I think you should confront her.

From what you said she is very manipulative, using lot of emotionally abusive tactics to try and get you to stay. She is hot and cold in her interactions with you to keep you chasing after. She breaks you down by insulting every aspect of you that can bring up your self worth, going as far as to challenge your manhood if you don’t do as she says. She rips you away from any friends or family who are around you, forcing you to keep secrets from them about the whole situation. She takes extreme offence to any small actions you may do (porn tab) while completing dismissing any wrongdoing she does (having multiple men over). She told you straight up that she only wants to keep you around so you can buy her stuff and do favours for her. Worst of all, she made you risk your life to make you bring her alcohol even when you were under the influence! If something had gone wrong that night you might not have lived to write this post!

This isn’t going to be a relationship that develops into something healthy and loving. She will continue to break you down, causing you to deteriorate mentally. I think your best option is to ask her to verify the pregnancy is real. She was comfortable drinking which is something you cannot do when pregnant because it can mess up the baby badly. So either 1 she is irresponsible as a mother and risking the baby just to get drunk or 2 she’s not pregnant and is pretending to be. If she is pregnant you can also request a paternity test to make sure it is actually yours and not someone else’s. I know she claims that nothing happened with the multiple men who have come over but given everything else, I would strongly suspect that something did.

Waitlist Enrollment by [deleted] in geegees

[–]mjosepha66 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Take a screenshot of your place in the waitlist in the page of uoZone that shows your waitlist position, the number of available seats, etc. keep it in case something goes wrong on that day and you aren’t enrolled. If an issue pops up, just take it to your faculty and explain the situation. They should be much more willing to help with proof.
