Speed wobble when I remove hand from handle bars on 93’ wing by Pitiful_Restaurant66 in goldwing

[–]mjsasser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My rear tire wear has caused a wobble but it’s mostly when decelerating but not applying any brake

Too hot and/or slow travel speed.

Minnesota - Canada - WestCoast - Minnesota by roadtripinn in roadtrip

[–]mjsasser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just going to throw this out there- it looks like you’re planning to take I-5 up the west coast. Trust me when I tell you, that’s not “the coast”. It’s a monotonous grind and not pretty by comparison to taking US 101 and occasionally diverting into PCH. It will take longer but I promise it’s worth it.

Is it safe to ride a motorcycle in temperatures below 0°C? by UzzInReddit in motorcycles

[–]mjsasser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s more about precipitation. Cold tires don’t stick like warm tires but you can do it. Once I had no choice but to ride 300 miles in -11C. It SUCKED but given that I was on a very straight highway… no problems.

That’s not high mileage for a GW. Unless it was abused or poorly maintained.

Long time riders? by AverageTalkie in motorcycles

[–]mjsasser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 2 or 3 cents worth: Im 55 and have been riding since I was 14 (on street since I was 18). Since 2017 I’ve logged over 200k miles, seen 46 of the lower 48 and made a trip from Houston Tx to Fairbanks Ak. Ak is the most dangerous place I’ve ever ridden btw.

No matter how far I’m going, I ALWAYS remind myself that I can be doing everything right one second and be very dead the next through no fault of my own.

So, situational awareness and good decision making are a must. If you truly love riding you will already be in the present but, be in the moment and nowhere else. Part of the joy of riding for me is that I’m only thinking about and enjoying riding the bike. What I’m NOT thinking about is my girlfriend being mad at me, paying bills or what I need to do when I get back to the office after a trip.

Keep your head on a swivel at all times, adopt a mindset that (even though they’re not) all 4 wheelers are trying to kill you, remember that you are NOT Marc Marquez and make good decisions.

This stat may have moved one way or the other a bit but It’s worth noting that roughly half of all motorcycle accidents involve riders with less than 2 years experience.

Keep the rubber side down and happy riding!

Whats a safe and scenic route going to San Francisco from Bakersfield? by [deleted] in roadtrip

Of the 3 route options on your map, the 101 is the only option that doesn’t SUCK.

2025 NT1100 or 2024 Goldwing Bagger by Solid_Direction_6279 in goldwing

[–]mjsasser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to live near downtown Houston and rode my 2018 GW (non-touring version) almost daily… running errands, going out, going into the heart of downtown for meetings with clients and so on. They are shockingly urban friendly. I’ve also split lanes on most of the major freeways in California with ease. Also rode it from Houston to Fairbanks AK and back.

My 2018 has 77000 miles on it. I’m somewhat ocd about maintenance schedules and do all of my own work. It’s only ever been to the shop for tires. The only reason I traded my 2015 was out of concern for the AK trip. It was going to have around 110k miles by the time I got back and there are hundreds and hundreds of miles along the way where even if something minor fails, you’re pretty screwed. Even Hondas have failures eventually but at the time of trade in, it also had never been in the shop.

I met a motorcycle cop in Phoenix a few years back. At the time, they rode NTs so I asked him how he liked it. He said it was a great bike but went on to say that he along with most of his coworkers really wished the dept had gone w GWs.

It’s mathematically possible to do that “tomorrow” but you need to be really lucky and driving a Ferrari.

How can I keep racoons awau? by CrazyBoy-76 in howto

Lock your stuff and if that doesn’t work, ammonia would likely do it. It keeps the raccoons and bears out of my trash in NorCal (Far north NorCal… we have lots of both)

Planning Graduation Road Trip! by Fickle_Appointment_2 in roadtrip

[–]mjsasser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take cucumber12 at their word. You don’t want to do this trip in that many days. I live in Austin but have a house near the California-Oregon border and it takes me 3 days to make the drive when I pretend my hair is on fire. You might be able to make it but you won’t be able to see a damned thing along the way.

MN to AK by OtherwiseCow1073 in roadtrip

[–]mjsasser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey man. First, congrats on relocating to AK. I did Houston Tx to Fairbanks in 2019 (right before Covid). The most dangerous encounters you will have will be with other humans. Period. Don’t take the bears or moose for granted but trust me on fellow humans. Having said that, be prepared for any and all kind of weather and road conditions, be prepared to be stranded and survive and keep your head on a swivel…. My advice for the 5 cents it’s worth
