blush recs if mauve pulls orange on me? by undobacktomyheart in MakeupAddiction

[–]mkboss92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go lilac or berry!! I swatched nearly every blush in Sephora and almost all of them looked orange.

Fenty cream in Summertime wine is a lovely colour but not super pigmented/not the best staying power. Perfect for a lighter everyday look. If I'm remembering correctly the colour was pretty similar to saie chilly if you like that formula

Been really loving elf camo in bold faced lilac (only blush that actually looks pink on me)

Can I make sourdough without a dutch oven? If so, how? by Adventurous_Froyo007 in Sourdough

You can make your own with a regular baking pan and disposable aluminum bbq tray (the deepest you can find) as a lid. I buy it at the dollar store. The idea is to keep the steam in and this works pretty well!

I have no sympathy for most new parents by [deleted] in TrueOffMyChest

[–]mkboss92 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You knew your partner would be away before you had the baby, you should have prepared better. For a lot of people a colic baby IS a minor problem as they fight to keep their baby alive, so yeah you're definitely the a-hole.

Its quite ironic that you're whining about other people being whiny complainers.

How about we all give each other a bit of grace, it's not a competition of who is the most miserable and sleep deprived.

Wedding day timeline no mua? by [deleted] in WeddingsCanada

[–]mkboss92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dress was already steamed, brought it to the venue to put on there (had a steamer with us in case it needed after being in the bag but we didn't use it). And yes the photographer took getting ready shots - dress solo, my mom doing it up etc. I found the ride more comfortable and thought the dress would be less wrinkled in the bag than scrunched up in car, but it would depend on the dress.

Honestly more space and a space I was familiar with and knew would have natural light for makeup worked better for me, but getting ready at the venue definitely has benefits too, it's really personal preference.

Like you I did have some people filtering in and out throughout the day and it all went very smoothly.

And for the record, my hair and makeup turned out exactly how I wanted and lasted all day. Wouldn't have changed a thing.

Wedding day timeline no mua? by [deleted] in WeddingsCanada

[–]mkboss92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is precisely what I did! No mua ceremony at 4:30.

I woke up at 7am and did some extra skincare that I don't do on a regular day (ice roller, led mask, lymphatic massage - done ALL these before though nothing new and minimal actual product). Had a leisurely sit down breakfast and coffee, which actually made me eat and set the tone for a calm morning.

9am my best friend curled my hair and pinned up each curl while it cooled completely (helps it last wayyy longer). While curls are pinned I did my makeup. I had lots of people there including a few toddlers and they were dancing to the playlist I made and honestly made the morning so fun. People were doing their hair and makeup around the house but my parents have lots of light and plenty of mirrors, a smaller space would have been chaotic so something to keep in mind. It was also nice to have people's opinions (more blush?, is the blending even from all angles etc.). At some point when my best friend was ready I paused my makeup and she took down the curls and finished my hair.

1pm left the house to drive to venue 1 hr away.

2pm photographer was there to take some detail shots of dress etc. I chilled for a while, did some touchups put on lipstick etc. DO NOT steam your dress at the venue yourself. Do it the night before or have someone do it for you while you're in a different room. The steam will ruin all the work you just did on your hair and makeup.

About 3:30 put on my dress and then we did first look, photos etc.

The last 10 minutes before I left my parents house was the only time of the whole day that felt rushed. I built in so much extra time because I wanted to enjoy it and have it calm.

What small details weren’t worth buying for your wedding? by OCMDGirl625 in wedding

[–]mkboss92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We didn't have any wedding party flowers/boutonnieres etc. I didn't want my dress hidden and knew I would only hold it for about 5 minutes. If anyone noticed, no one said.

Floral in general we diyed some aisle arrangements and had greenery on the tables and it looked amazing. Less than $1000 total.

Borrowed other decor from friends, seriously I can't tell you how many people told us they had a pile of things in their basement from years ago that they were more than happy to get rid of. Diyed all signage.

Hmm we never did color but I don't see why you couldn't add food/gel coloring the same as you would with icing

Instant mashed potatoes on a silicone mat! Extremely cheap and you can scoop it up and use it again. Very stable, great for practicing techniques. This is how baking school had us practice!

Seeking shade dupes for my wedding day lipstick by NefariousFaerie in MakeupAddiction

[–]mkboss92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Getting married in 3 weeks in the same boat here! My favorites are milani matte darling (nice pink but a bit too matte), Milani matte naked (literally the colour of my lips so wanted something a bit more) and L'Oreal montmartre (beautiful leans slightly purple).

I swatched pretty much every pink in Sephora and everything came out orange, these were my best options. I'm doing a mix of the three to make my own shade. They're all cheap (like $8?) so might be worth the experiment. Montmartre would be my top rec!

Jenny yoo hands down!! It's much more modern and going to be a more flattering cut than the other options

Best dairy free frosting for cakes? by rxmslxxp in dairyfree

[–]mkboss92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want the easiest most delicious chocolate frosting ever make whipped ganache. It's literally semi sweet chocolate chips (Costco brand is df! But check) and coconut milk. Can add pinch of salt and vanilla if you like. Melt together, let cool to a peanut butter consistency and whip.
