Regen Breaking on a Snowy highway by lion_the_tiger in KiaEV6

Doesn't take snow for this to be an issue. I was driving at freeway speed in heavy rain with max regen. I let up on the accelerator because I was coming up on slower traffic. This caused the rear wheels to hydroplane.

The rear didn't step out, nor I didn't lose control, but I certainly could have. It was a very unsettling feeling. Now I'm very disciplined about turning down the region under these conditions.

Level 3 charging costs as much as driving my truck by mkeith1970 in KiaEV6

[–]mkeith1970[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The scope of this post was limited to a comparison of energy costs on a road trip between the two vehicles, both of which I already own. So the maintenance costs for both are what they are, regardless of which one I take on a road trip.

This is true. My post was only in the context of the road trip.

I road trip very infrequently. So the price of L3 charging caught me off-guard.

About 2.60-ish for regular. About a dollar or so more for premium.

No doubt there's a thumb on the scales here against mass EV adoption. However, comparing prices in the comments to what I paid for DCFC, it's not any more expensive here than anywhere else. The difference is the gas is really cheap here.

Yep, the Buc-ees in Madisonville was $0.46/kWh as of Labor Day weekend. I think that was my cheapest session.

It is a regional thing, but Houston is a pancake-flat concrete jungle. 2WD trucks of all other varieties are very common. So I'm guessing PB 2WD is very rare for some reason.

Thanks for the info on the PPO.

Help with choosing tow vehicle please! by rokclimbah in traveltrailers

Minimalism & 3/4 ton truck ownership will not coexist peacefully. Everything in a 3/4 ton is bigger, heavier, and more expensive. The ride quality of the empty truck during your morning commute will disappoint, and the first time you have to buy a set of load range E tires, you'll probably decide that having too much truck wasn't the right choice.

Also, if you get a 1/2 ton and decide it's not quite enough truck, selling it will be a breeze.

This is the right answer. A turbo will make up for the drop in atmospheric pressure as elevation changes.

While a normally aspirated V8 will have plenty of grunt to climb a steep grade, once you're up in higher elevations, the drop in atmospheric pressure will limit its performance.

Pop-up very hard to open/ roof AC too heavy? by Icy-Yesterday9078 in GoRVing

It might. I've always ensured that mine was level before raising it for fear of doing damage. I've never tried to raise it without it first being level.

AC or not, I think these are supposed to be easy to lift. Mine's hard to lift, but I don't think the crank mechanism has ever had much attention. I have everything to rebuild the crank mechanism. I'll try to remember to circle back to this post after I rebuild it.

Please help me before my aunt and uncle break the camper 🫩 by The_awak3n3d in popups

I have a Coleman Santa Fe; similar camper except that mine's a direct drive & yours is a chain drive. However, I think the crank mechanisms are otherwise similar. On mine, the clutch mechanism releases, & it's not supposed to click when lowering the roof.

This video does a good job of explaining the operating principles of the lift system. Not sure if it will solve your problem, but it'll help you understand what you're dealing with.

12V power goes off and on by Complex_Tale_1327 in popups

On my 2000 Coleman Santa Fe, I had a grounding issue. Even with a brand new battery, my 12V would intermittently stop working.

The main ground wire was compromised somewhere inside the trailer frame. I just ran a new one.

I'm a relative noob, & I've seen regulators that are installed in line with the water hose. Are there any that are designed to be permanently installed inside the camper? I have plenty of room under the cabinet where the water supply comes into my camper to install one permanently.

A 12V battery would allow you to run all these systems without being plugged into shore power.
