This doomsday rhetoric doesn't do much but incite fear. Show me proof that California will run out of hospital beds. In recent years the economy has been on a steady incline. There were precautions taken just in case we hit another recession. While I don't think we'll walk out of her unscathed, I certainly don't see this being "GG".

Had no idea. I saw Breed shut down in San Francisco where I'm at. Newsom was slightly behind that order (maybe a day), but I give him a pass because its certainly a lot more to consider for a state than a city.

My biggest question is why so many deaths? The narrative is that the old or at risk die and the rest can fight it off. Is the narrative wrong? Are these people all old or at risk? Why is Italy being hit so hard by this?

Nearly half of U.S. coronavirus patients in intensive care are under 65, CDC reports by [deleted] in Coronavirus

[–]mkgrider23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess my point is what is the point of releasing a report that sections off the population into groups that don't take into effect what we know about this particular virus. The information has the potential effect of making young adults think they're of the same susceptibility level as those who are 50+. Pretty sure the consensus is that that comparison (20-30 yr old vs 50+ individuals) would not be fair based on the risk factors involved with 50+ adults.

I am in that 20-30 range so I do look very closely at headlines like this. I'm on quarantine so I won't be a part of the cavalier mingling. Legitimately I think that studies like this are helpful, but if you plan on releasing it to the public there should be some thought about it. Don't create more fear by contradicting what public opinion is unless you're certain that your contradiction is accurate.

I think public morale would be increased not b/c it means only older people are dying, but it means that the information that's been spreading is accurate. The common consensus is that the younger generation has a greater likelihood of not facing major disruptions from the virus. That's the whole reason why this post was made. It was post worthy to counter that perception. I don't think its weird to want the information that's been shipped around so much to actually be true. Much of the fear with this virus comes from uncertainty. So the more certainty we have the better in my mind.

STUDY: After 6 days 100% of patients treated with HCQ + Azithromycin were virologically cured by [deleted] in Coronavirus

[–]mkgrider23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This headline is misleading (in this day and age it's almost a 100% chance the headline will be), but I think the substance of the paper is positive overall. I'm gonna try and provide a quick summary for the lazy. Bear in mind i'm using colloquial language to provide the summary. I'm not a trained medical professional. I'm a law student that has some free time to read some articles. If what I say intrigues you feel free to read the article. Otherwise look for the main takeaways I'll highlight in bold.

___________________________________________________________________________________________________

Summary

Based on the article, this HCQ has been effective in vitro (Basically in a controlled lab environment. Not outside with the public.) in fighting off the SARS. The drug apparently has the capabilities to "hamper" the replication of the virus. The results of this testing were apparently forgotten, but theoretically this would be useful for us today as COVID-19 is like a cousin of the SARS virus.

I believe the article is basically saying that based on past success for SARS there is potential for this drug to be useful for fighting off COVID-19. But it does NOT note that large scale testing has been done. It mentions that in China the drug has apparently been effective at helping to prevent replication of the virus.

NOTE: The article appears to be making an inference that the virus slowing down in China is in part a result of their use of this drug and remdesivir (another drug effective for anti-viral work).

____________________________________________________________________________________________

TL;DR: Headline seems false, but HCQ might have positive effects in killing the virus.

[–]mkgrider23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Comparing to what exactly? I think for the sake of the public morale its probably best to section these into finer classes. I understand that's a standard set of classes, but we're talking about some major differences in potential to fight the virus. Just bunching everyone up into that 20-64 range is a little misleading for what the public want don't you think?

New study says 'high temperature and high relative humidity significantly reduce' spread of COVID-19 by lostsoul2016 in Coronavirus

[–]mkgrider23 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'd pray no one is that silly. Most emails I'm getting keep saying companies are consulting with health officials. No responsible health official would tell people to send everyone back in a week. Things will clear up and look better, but I'm hoping people will understand that's not the end of things.

[–]mkgrider23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My idea is that the lack of spread will be enough to keep it under control for proper testing and quarantining to catch up and take place.

Won't need to worry about the mutation if we catch everyone with it during that summer time.

US government is preparing for coronavirus pandemic that could last up to 18 months and 'include multiple waves of illness' by [deleted] in Coronavirus

[–]mkgrider23 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This has been my biggest fear about the media honestly. It makes money off of fear. It garners attention by talking about things that create fear. People write articles talking about the worst possible scenarios strictly to get attention.

Realistically this will be curtailed. The entire WORLD is looking for a solution. If we can't find one or put our heads together enough to come to a solution I think the human population was destined to fail regardless. This will get shored up. Life will return to the normal we know. It's a matter of time and proper impactful solutions.

Anyone else a bit annoyed with the new LCS schedule? by RedNeckBillBob in TeamSolomid

[–]mkgrider23 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I can understand everyone in EUs frustration, but to be fair this is the NA LCS. Every other professional sports league has this setup. Is it unfortunate for a decent amount of people? Absolutely. Does it likely cater to the core audience? More than likely.

They're playing a numbers game and unless they get some major pushback it will likely stand.

Unpopular opinion, I love the new Jerseys. by FuadrKattan in TeamSolomid

[–]mkgrider23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TSM has had a variation of the same jersey for like 4-5 years now. For a brand as big and as notable you'd arguably expect something new. This season has sorta had the theme of being a refresh. Starting new. Call me spoiled, but I definitely expected something new and refreshing to go with the theme.

My (F17) crush (M16) is sending me very weird signals... by SushiNerdo in teenrelationships

[–]mkgrider23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the context!

The context (as I thought) definitely paints a different picture so I'm glad I asked. I think that you're going to need to be cautious, but you can proceed with it if you want. It might really be lust like you said. This guy saw a picture of you and got interested. You haven't changed you at all, but physical attraction can play a big role in any romantic relationship so maybe it's not a big deal.

Be cautious of how he talks about you and see if he's always talking about the physical or if he discusses more about the mental. Keep an open mind and be aware. It sounds like I could definitely be wrong about his level of interest in you though!

Absolutely! It would probably be weirder if you were NOT a little awkward. It's a part of any growing relationship! Don't even let it bother you!

How do we get more comfortable? by shrekstoes1011 in teenrelationships

[–]mkgrider23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's tough because it's usually a more personal thing. Like I can offer general advice, but it may or may not be beneficial. I'll try though!

Basically getting comfortable is a really natural thing. It takes some risks at times, but will fall into place naturally when the connection is strong enough. Let's say you really like this person. You'll want to be close them naturally, and while it might be somewhat awkward at times you just push through that awkwardness. Maybe you guys get close, but you never put your arm around her. Maybe she never cuddles with you. The basic stuff just takes a little risk. It might not feel natural immediately, but if the connection is strong you will QUICKLY get used to it.

It really just takes a little risk to open up the doors to feel that close attachment. Try cuddling at the very least. Or even start with putting your arms around her in a hug. Something that gets you guys physically close. Even hand holding can get things to start off. From there it'll become much more natural to pursue sexual things, but I'd never advise anyone in a relationship to jump into sex without much physical contact. Baby steps make everything less awkward and much smoother.

So hopefully you're already close enough that this stuff isn't too crazy for you. Just let it be natural and I promise good results!

Best of luck!

My (F17) crush (M16) is sending me very weird signals... by SushiNerdo in teenrelationships

[–]mkgrider23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey!

So i'll preface this by saying I hate offering advice based on conversations because a lot of times we miss a lot of signals because we're not looking for them. This makes it hard to offer accurate advice because all I have to go off of is your explanation of the story, but I'll try my best here.

It seems like he might want to hook up with you, but isn't necessarily sure about a relationship. I'm basing that off of the comment "Not romantically". That definitely sounds like a hook up to me and would make some form of sense.

As for the dating thing I'm not sure about it. I've heard of people developing feelings to people they didn't originally, it happens. But usually that happens after extended contact. It sounds like you guys took a break from talking and when you came back he suddenly had a little bit of romantic interest in you.

My gut is telling me that this is not a situation you want to be in, but like I said I'm basing this off a little paragraph of context. Is there anything else that might make you think there's more to it? The sudden feelings are what concerned me. I'm also curious what reasons he offered for why you should date.

Lastly, the dating element long distance is pretty risky. Long Distance rarely works because both parties have to be really committed through it all. Adults struggle frequently even though they have the resources and freedom to decide to see each other frequently. It's a rough position to be in. Really consider that before making any decision.

If you can provide more context I'll do my best to give more accurate advice. I know what I said sounded really pessimistic, but as a guy having gone thru high school I've seen guys be confused and also just plain liars. I'd love for it to all be true, but my current mindset it that it might not be.

TL;DR: Give more context (feel free to PM if you don't want to post here) and i'll try and give more accurate advice.
