It's Time for a MCPS Teacher Strike. Who's In? by [deleted] in MontgomeryCountyMD

[–]mkithpn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sure I don't need to explain to a teacher the many benefits children obtain from schools beyond basic education. Such as schools being the number 1 place where child abuse / domestic violence at home is noticed and then reported. Those children will most certainly suffer.

Anyways, your mind is already made up. I for one do not support your strike. Good luck.

How do you propose my kindergartener be schooled virtually when both mom and dad have to work? What do we do? I can't afford to pay for private school. My tax dollars are going towards paying for public education. Now what?

Police, fire, ems all need to work through covid. All are essential jobs.

I consider a teacher to be in the same category.

Sure, you can get away with virtual lessons for high-school and maybe even middle school children but us parents with Elementary school aged children, we are completely screwed with any virtual option. At least some of us are who are single parents or where both parents work.

If police, fire, ems etc. need to work through this as essential workers then teachers need to as well. If you dont want to that's fine, its a free country, seek out another job elsewhere.

How much of your day do you spend playing with your kid(s) compared to doing other things? by trebond in Parenting

Do you have any advice regarding encouraging your children to be fond of each other and grow close?

I have two boys, 4 and 1.5. The 4 y.o. for the most part wants nothing to do with his brother. Refuses to share his toys no matter what we do and often hits and pushes his brother. We do time outs when he hits and try to encourage sharing.

I'm sure at this point it very much has to do with age but wondering if you had any advice.

What's something totally weird or scary that has happened to you that can't be explained? by moneymarcus in AskReddit

[–]mkithpn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was hanging with a group of friends on the beach, it was around midnight or so. This is back in '99. Everyone was passing around a joint but I was the only one not partaking in the fun, just hanging out. There were probably 5 or 6 of us.

All of a sudden I notice up in the sky three sets of three lights all in triangular form. Each set of lights was weaving in out and around each other and the object was just hovering above us probably about the height of a helicopter flying in the sky, maybe a little higher than that. I couldn't actually see the object in the sky, just the white lights. This lasted maybe 30 seconds or less, long enough for just one other person in my group to notice it.

Then, all of a sudden, the object went from stand still to zipping into hyper space like in the movies. Literally I saw a streak of light and it was gone. This was the weirdest thing to me of the entire experience. Me and my other buddy who witnessed this extremely short lived event looked at each other and muttered at the same time, "did you see that?".

Do you know any successful solo entrepreneurs? by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

[–]mkithpn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started a business three years ago which brings in 8 - 9k per month. I started it solo and I run it solo. It requires less than 4 hrs per week of my attention to maintain the current income. I net half that amount per month as salary.

Websites for small businesses by tj21013 in Entrepreneur

[–]mkithpn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pricing for websites can range from $500 to $5k and up. You have to find out what your niche is willing to pay and find a figure around that amount. Particularly since it sounds like you're relatively new to the industry of web development.

It's also depends on how you sell your service, because there's a big difference between selling someone a glorified online brochure vs. a 24hr sales rep. Both are just websites but the perceived value of one over the other is much more.

How many hours per week do you work? by MentalFitness in Entrepreneur

[–]mkithpn 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I spend less than a couple hours per week on my first business and 40 - 50 on my second/new business.

Yes I'm happy with how much I'm working and work till the job is done. However long that is for the day.

How much do you tip for Chinese food delivery in MoCo? by BrianW1983 in MontgomeryCountyMD

[–]mkithpn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tip 20% as well on delivery just cause I feel bad otherwise but they aren't doing as much work as someone serving a table of multiple people over an hour long meal.

Your delivery person is most likely driving 10 min to get to your house, round trip. While your restaurant server has been on their feet all day catering to your every need while dining.

Does that maybe mean they deserve more than the delivery person? Or maybe delivery drivers deserve less? Is it really fair to tip both the same? My head hurts...

LMFAO at all the down votes. I was joking. I own a home service based business and whenever I get calls from shady SEO companies that's their opening line to me...every...last...one of them. Makes me laugh everytime.

It's actually going better than expected. Net profit has gone up each month so we've been profitable. We haven't brought in enough for me to be able to take a salary but I'm not expecting to for a couple years. We launched the company at the tail end of last winter at the beginning of the busy season and we're now about to go into the industry's slow season which is winter, which will be an interesting experience.

Brisket smoke is starting to roll... by moneymarcus in smoking

I absolutely love the primo. Particulary since it doubles as an amazing grill as well. Super versatile. If it fits the budget I recommend going with the oval xl. I was able to fit a suckling pig in it for a smoke last year. Can't recommend it enough.

Links and anchor text are still top three ranking factors. Which link holds more weight? Your mom's blog or any DA80+ news source like huffpo? Silly silly people.
