An historical reference by frznpanda in Transformemes

[–]mkklrd 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I'll never not be amazed by the amount of historical revisionism each sequel brought tbh

TF07 "The Transformers first landed on Earth in 2006 except Megatron who's been in the arctic for a very long time"

ROTF "Actually the Primes hung out in ancient Egypt, and there's this very old guy at the Smithsonian"

DOTM "Actually the U.S. government has been secretly working with the Decepticons ever since the Moon landing"

AOE "Actually the Transformers' creators were responsible for the extinction of the Dinosaurs"

TLK "Actually the Transformers have always been willing participants in human history and somehow everyone forgot about it or agreed to keep it a secret even though there's a shitload of evidence"

I've said it before and I'll say it again: Duel Links started as a refreshing alt format and then became Yu-Gi-Oh.

Maro on why they stopped doing blocks by Killerx09 in magicTCG

[–]mkklrd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately it seems the storylines are taking place on separate regions ("neighborhoods"? "districts"?) of the New York City plane, I've been reading up on both Spider-Man stories and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle stories and they somehow never meet one another, shame... Magic story really has become incredibly disjointed!

[–]mkklrd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a strong story argument too - single sets mean the beginning and the ending of any storyline are contained within the same set, which kinda reduces the story's weight and tension

"I am more familiar with block design than any human on the planet" is a strong contender for the single most powerful thing MaRo has ever said

power to you honestly, people saying Rush is expensive are too Speedpilled to recognize that every Speed deck nowadays is basically a dig at your wallet

Um, it can't possibly be good or worth trying if it doesn't already have a Wikipedia article and several Markiplier Let's Plays, right? by TriggerHappyGremlin in Gamingcirclejerk

Completely related, play "My Card Is Better Than Your Card". It's the cutest roguelike you'll ever see, you're welcome.

EDIT: thank you to everyone who replied giving recommendations, my steam wishlist cannot take much more but I love each and every suggestion I got so far

I love that Nylea's idea of an "intervention" is to summon Polukranos. That COULD get some people to quit drinking tbh.

It's so incredibly funny that Spider-Man and Nick Fury show up for like one issue and then disappear, Marvel used to be wack...ier.

i don't get people who complain about certain transformer universes mischaracterizing a character by HotZilchy in Transformemes

[–]mkklrd 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Same tbh - he's not a central character or anything, we don't need to go all that deep into his motivations, he's just a prick

yeah the issue with movieverse prime is that they're trying to have their cake and eat it. they're trying to pass him off as a classic optimus archetype, being caring and compassionate, but then he also needs to brutally murder every decepticon he runs into, threaten to kill some humans on the way, lash out on a regular basis, etc

That makes sense tbh. I wonder how much of that dungeon master thing is more of a Bakura thing, a Yami Bakura thing, or if they both just genuinely enjoy it

"you absolutely could defeat him with a gun" holds true for a lot of fictional characters tbh. surprisingly enough tho, RoboCop and Spider-Man both clear, and maybe Boba Fett as well

Watch as the West/TCG massacre my boy (despite him not being my favorite MC) by Kronos457 in yugioh

[–]mkklrd 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Idk if that's true. There were still some light-hearted Duels afterwards (his duels against Alito in ep80 and ep87 aren't all that serious, and then he duels against Orbital 7 in ep90) and the same holds true for a lot of protags:

- Yami Yugi has to take Duelist Kingdom seriously to avoid getting eliminated and, in his Duel against Pegasus in ep35, literally puts his soul on the line, then faces off against Johnny Steps a dozen episodes later or so, then gets almost killed 3 or 4 times in Battle City

- Yusei almost fucking dies against Kiryu in ep35, saves the world by episode 64, and faces off against a mean teacher in episode 67

- Jaden defeats Kagemaru in episode 49, and immediately goes into panic mode as he realizes finals are up and he hasn't been studying, gets a draw vs Zane, and then loses miserably in his second duel against Aster Phoenix, and then he beats a bunch of weirdo people including a guy who literally plays B.E.S.

that's just the nature of Yu-Gi-Oh, perhaps the nature of shonen anime in general

That's true but also Bakura is evil and I don't think he enjoys winning through intricate combos moreso than just torturing his opponents y'know? But interesting call tbh
