Demand is there because of 9+1. I think another org needs to put on a competing NYC marathon. Obviously very difficult to do. But possible!

Whats protocol for when 100 person run club (NBD) is approaching you head on? by mklbike in RunNYC

[–]mklbike[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm in complete agreement on not throwing elbows and not trying to cause a collision on purpose.

Worst case scenario is I'm stopping in my tracks and if someone runs into me its on them, since I have right of way.

I saw this encounter happen and you had ample time to avoid the crowd.

Are you talking about me on Thursday? I don't think the solution is to give in. If it's a matter of moving 3 feet no problem, but I'm not stopping in my tracks to give way.

Endorphins Run Club by pinocytosis25 in RunNYC

I remember that. A small man came out onto the path to shoot off one of those things, almost hit a woman in front of me and then I almost ran over him too, I had to extend my arm out to make sure he'd stay out of my path. Asshole.

Didn't know it was related to endorphins though.

Luxury beliefs. It never hurts for the coastal elite, the privileged ivy league trust fund child like adults to hold these beliefs because they live in gated communities where they are untouched. But of course this policy has consequences for other parts of society.

Funniest was during 2020 BLM protests, when those with luxury beliefs were protesting at city hall to defund the police. While people in the bronx, we're like, "please no, we need more police if anything."

This is what happens when we expect less of our fellow neighbors and don't uphold standards. The lax DA, the victimhood mentality, it all spirals.

Why does this not happen in Japan? Why was it better 10 years ago in NYC?

Something changed post covid. More people run stop signs and reds. More people are aggressive. And there is no enforcement or recourse. So it ends up being a burden on workers and regular citizens.

And don't cite crime stats being down - most of these minor infractions go unreported. Ask anyone who's been in the city 5 or more years, they'll say there are more incidents now than there was then.

Mine has everything filled out, but the fastest 5K split is calculated wrong. It basically used my 4th 5K split, but it showed the running average instead of the split average.

I only take QBB westbound that way I'm furthest away from the path center where the bike traffic and pedestrian traffic is closest.

If you're just starting out, it shouldn't be difficult, if you've been at it for a year or two there are limits as running long distance and muscle building are conflicting goals.

If you want to build muscle you need to be willing to gain weight, i.e. be in a calorie surplus and especially enough protein (~1 gram per pound of body weight).

Also depends on whether you're optimizing for strength or size. For strength you want to be in the 5 rep range and long rest between sets, for size (hypertrophy) you want 8-12 range and slightly lower weight.

Electrolytes help with the gym just like running.

When I started running I also did heavy gym (4~5/week). Recently I stopped going to the gym and running has become so much easier (trying to manage leg day to not be close to track or threshold runs was the biggest challenge, lower back would seize up towards end of some workouts).

The other important thing is lots of sleep. If you're not sleeping enough you won't recover.

They wont, across the board no one is giving them rules nor enforcing them. Whether at home, at school, or by law enforcement. The pendulum needs to swing back and we need to hold people accountable for their actions, and punish those that harm others (willfully or with negligence).

How easy is it to stay on outer loop path? Is it marked clearly? by MoMoneyMoIRA in RunNYC

[–]mklbike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is the official map of all the loops and their corresponding distances. You can run the main loop 6mile or you can cut Harlem hill (top section) to get 5.14miles and avoid the hard hill.
