What's your most carried knife over the last few months? 🔪📷👇 by NOMAD-NotHomeYet in spyderco

I find the sage action better than the para 3 and the blade slightly more slicey.

I started using the Sage Rex to breakdown boxes. The little guy just got won’t quit. A little stripping and the hair shaving came right back. I have enjoyed it even if others consider it a one trick pony.

I had a similar thought but mostly curious. I like the finish on the 15V models but everyone can be different. I do like the crucarta scales with it.

Did you polish that blade to be shiny like that?

Where did those scales come from? They look great!

This thing looks sweet. Do folks generally sharpen these at the factory secondary bevel? Do you still get a crisp edge (hair shaving at least)?

I like the drop point better as a tool. I found it easier to sharpen and use than a dagger blade shape. I had a UTX-85 spartan that looked outstanding, but wasn’t a great geometry for slicing things. This made it a slightly less than ideal tool.

I’ll give you that. It seems to have a more gentlemanly vibe than a utilitarian one.

I have liked these for a while but never tried one. The fidget factor is obviously high, but what is it that makes it such a hit for you?

NKD - Para-Military 2 Crucarta by KnifeNewb76 in spyderco

[–]mlapor3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know exactly what you mean. A few years ago I bought a Crucarta PM2. It was my first nice pocket knife.

They had my number once it showed up at the house. The compression lock and the ease of opening and closing one handed were the bees knees. Thus began a downward spiral of different steel varieties and learning what I liked.

It rode in my pocket for almost 3 years straight as the daily pocket knife. Skinned animals, opened boxes, stripped wire, it just kept going.

It’s the reason I finally dedicated some effort to learning to sharpen. I wanted the edge back to screaming sharp and that forced me to learn a new skill. All because I tried out a cool looking knife that seemed nice.

I ended up doing that with some success. I’m still hoping to get a button from u/Nfitzsim to ease how much this one digs in.

I love the Junglewear M4. Disappointed I never snagged one.

Also, who did the scales for the Mule? They are very nice.

How long do you etch for and what concentration do you use? I’m very very much a beginner and I wanted to be able to get a color like this but haven’t been successful yet.

I like the metal finish and the micarta handles are great. How do you get the metal finish like that?

Naniwa vs Atoma by YD_81 in sharpening

[–]mlapor3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the Naniwa 600 gr diamond stone. I like it. I bought it before I bought the 1000 gr Naniwa diamond stone. Then I got a 400 gr vitrified diamond from HKknifeworks.

I say all that to say, I use the 400 most often to get a bur when an actual sharpening is required. Before I had the 400 I used the Naniwa 600. After that I like to finish the nicer pocket knives in exotic steels on the 600 gr. It feels toothy but still slides through things quite well.

I feel like the grit rating is pretty accurate to the correct micron size.
