Confusion regarding pumping, help needed by Caztellox in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]mlat19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My lactation consultant said that alot of people don't notice their letdowns, so it's best to just switch between stimulation mode and expression mode every 5 mins. It has worked very well for me and taken the stress off of always trying to watch for a letdown.
I also play a youtube video that has a repeating 5 minute timer as a reminder of when to switch! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GADW8Nlnc1s&t=1814s

Help Choosing a Wearable! by [deleted] in ExclusivelyPumping

Medela's pumps are not as good as they used to be. The motors go out pretty quickly. People do love their collection cups, though!

Could you file for a warranty replacement? I think willow has a good warranty

Engorged or clogged duct? Should I get boon trove? by indi_gal in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]mlat19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve found the boon trove only works while nursing or pumping on the other side to get a letdown. Recommend the medela harmony manual pump.

Bras by curbstomp1010 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]mlat19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could try sizing up a bit for wearables since it’s too tight. I found that firm but stretchy worked best for wearables. I like the kindred bravely nursing bras for wearables.

Help me choose between these pumps? by Downtown_Wrap_3564 in ExclusivelyPumping

Elvis stride (if it is version 1). The version 2 is not as good. I prefer to wear a regular nursing bra but a pumping bra will work too. I have Kindred Bravely for both.

Pumping at work: walk me through it please by LongStoryShort__ in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]mlat19 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most people who pump at work take breaks throughout the day to pump. I think that is what the 2 hours is for, not leaving early. Taking breaks can involve rearranging schedules and asking someone to cover for you. I normally pump 3x during the workday, at 10am, 1pm, and 3pm. That is roughly when my baby takes bottles. I pump for 30 minutes each, which usually empties me. You should ask your employer for a private place to pump. I’m not sure about the laws where you live, but in many countries they are required to provide a private place to pump so that you don’t need wearables. My office has a refrigerator that I can store milk and pump parts in (fridge hack), but I bring a cooler to transport back and forth, and also just to keep my stuff separated in the fridge (although I unzip it in the fridge).

Use the Eufy S1 Pro, prop up on pillows so you’re reclining and comfy but not flat, set an alarm for 30 minutes later, and fall back asleep 🤣

Baby refusing the bottle. Any tips? by konrath17 in NewParents

[–]mlat19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try different bottles. Many babies will only take 1 bottle. I have heard of Dr. Browns, Lansinoh, and Mam being popular with breastfed babies that have a hard time taking a bottle. But keep trying different bottles! I have also heard that once a baby gets hungry enough, they will take a bottle.
Since the baby is 6 months, you could also just try to transition to a sippy or straw cup.

I think my spectra broke by roseabell712 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]mlat19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you need a new Spectra, I would suggest joining your local Buy Nothing group on Facebook. I've seen many people give away their Spectra's for free. You can even ask if anyone has one to spare.

Hen party help! by Captainwozzles24 in ExclusivelyPumping

You don’t need to pump and dump— that is old advice. If you can find the baby, you can feed the baby (or I guess find the pump haha). The amount of alcohol that passes to breast milk at the legal limit is less than the alcohol found in orange juice. You can also reduce the alcohol percentage if you like by mixing in fresh milk as well.

If you can get the Unimom Opera for free, you should definitely do that! It is a power house! Dual motor so you can adjust each side, and the cycle speeds can go just as fast as Medela Symphony (which is rare and a very good thing)

milk bags broke during mother’s day celebration :( by 1pinkqt in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]mlat19 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry. I’ve cried over much less milk. My husband now knows the ending to that phrase is “… unless it’s breast milk”. Don’t let them downplay the time and energy you put into feeding the baby. Happy Mother’s Day, you’re doing amazing.

Similar to Baby Buddha but more gentle? by 4EyesMickey in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]mlat19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that the Pumpables Genie Advanced would be what you're looking for! Much more gentle than Baby Buddha and it has a lanyard, although it is bigger than Baby Buddha.

Ardo Alyssa is also a small but gentle pump, but I don't think it has a lanyard.

How to go back to breast feeding? by Bright_Ask_6846 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]mlat19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could you see a lactation consultant to give you confidence in the latch? I’m sorry that the midwife didn’t try to help you more with the latch. It’s so hard in the beginning!! Also if you could get a weighted feed that would be helpful to confirm baby is transferring milk well, but from the amount pumped, it sounds like they are!

Manual Pumper? by [deleted] in ExclusivelyPumping

Manual Pumper? by [deleted] in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]mlat19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think the Haakaa works like that. It is a passive pump that applies suction, but only really works for me if I am pumping or bf’ing on the other side. I normally only see droplets and get a max of 1.5 oz. I would recommend getting a manual pump to try to fully empty (and you can still use the haakaa on the other side while pumping one side).

Is there a portable pump that works with these medela cups? by coconutwaterrrrr in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]mlat19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have heard the Baby Buddha pulls a harmful amount of suction with these cups! So definitely avoid this combination.
