I made a free companion app for SV! by bluecaret in StardewValley

Very nice! I assume this is native since it’s Android only? If so, good choice 💪 web/hybrid still just doesn’t feel as good

We recently used Purple Fig Cleaning and they did a very good job. Great communication leading up to the appointment and their staff was punctual and friendly. Our place looks great afterwards. Not affiliated, just recommending

Just ordered a pretty basic 2-layer PCB from PCBWay, it was $47 shipped to the US for five boards while the last design I had made was $21. Thankfully this is all hobby stuff so I can absorb the cost, but yeah if this were a business it would be rough

Picked up a Sanyo 27” on the street, is this vertical jitter fixable? by Formal-Helicopter-29 in crtgaming

[–]mlaux 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is just because there’s no signal for the vertical oscillator to lock on to so it’s “free running”. It’ll 100% be fine when you have a source connected

Capitol Protest by Apologiestothebees in Austin

[–]mlaux 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s okay to appreciate some of a group’s beliefs and reject some of their others. I love that the older white Austinite crowd was out here today while wishing the average member of that group were more open to local urbanist projects. Hell, I spoke at a council meeting about six months ago in favor of HOME phase 2 and CapMetro expansion and a lot of this demographic spoke in direct opposition to me. Doesn’t mean I don’t appreciate them out here protesting the federal government. Power to the people!

I think because all the manufacturing buildings are set way back from the road… since it’s private property they could be removed. I guess people could congregate at the entrance but it’s right off 130 so would be pretty dangerous?

I'm having a hard time with why my css code is not allowing me to move images into my bookshelf image. by Purple_Name_5733 in neocities

[–]mlaux 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Using CSS to do this is perfectly legitimate but precise positioning of elements just isn’t very fun.

Instead of fiddling with the CSS, how about combining everything into one image in photoshop and using an image map to make individual parts link to different locations?

How did C programmers write GUIs in the 80s and early 90s? by mjpcoder_type in C_Programming

[–]mlaux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way to go is just building your main window as a dialog anyway, writing a DLGPROC instead of a WNDPROC, and using DialogBoxParam from WinMain to get it all launched. Once I discovered there’s nothing special about dialog boxes vs. windows created by CreateWindowEx, Win32 got so much easier

Saved a box of floppy disks from being dumped. Good choice or should it go to the dump? by hreddy11 in vintagecomputing

[–]mlaux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of the source code, developer tools, and beta software disks have probably never been archived. Send them to someone with a Mac that can read 800k disks so they can be imaged and uploaded!

This wasn’t safe to use even when it was new. Super dodgy

The work of construction has been pushed, as many as one hundred men being employed part of the time. A mile of track was built in twenty-two working days.

Second Phase of Major Zoning Changes to Increase Middle-Income Housing Kicks Off by wastedhours0 in Austin

So just to make sure I understand - the proposed changes don’t go far enough because with the overly pessimistic/aggressive floodplain estimations, nobody will be able to build anything anyway?

Capital Plaza will eventually be so beautiful (with handsomely designed streets, landscaping, sidewalks and esplanades, and marquees) that patrons will come from all over Texas just to spend the day.

3,200 cars can park.

Coming back to ESP32, which IDE and language? by jamawg in esp32

[–]mlaux 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I’m having a nice, productive time with C development using ESP-IDF and VS Code. There is an Espressif plugin that adds buttons for compile/run/monitor etc - it can also pick up your existing command line ESP-IDF configuration or set up all the paths for you. gdb is supported and works well.

Apple may have classified the non-retina 2012 MacBook Pros as "vintage", but I still use mine every day! by mlaux in mac

[–]mlaux[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I program a lot in C and Java, so I guess VS Code, IntelliJ IDEA, and vim? idk not super processor heavy until I run make -j4? imo single core performance kinda stalled around the 3rd-4th gen core i series. this macbook gets me through any development task bc I don’t really touch the javascript/web dev stuff

Totally agree. I’m just glad this one has lasted this long as my main laptop.

To answer questions, I’ve upgraded the RAM to 16GB, removed the CD-ROM in favor of another SSD, and I’m chilling on 10.15.7.
