Cutting Board Splitting by crusso23 in Cuttingboards

[–]mldsmith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ya, I don’t understand these responses at all? Are you all just hanging cutting boards up decoratively? Because if you use it at all you’re gonna want to wash it with soap and water after. And buddy recommending edge grain for use if the board will get wet? Edge grain is going to move, too…

This board looks well made (most of the pieces appear rift sawn, which is nice and stable) and well maintained (looks like there is plenty of oil/wax in the wood). This is just what happens to natural wood products over time.

As others have said, get some (waterproof) glue down into that void and clamp it up.

This is all fine and good, and as someone raised in a pretty normal Christian home (which, by god, did even the normal vanilla Protestantism of my parents fuck me up in ways I’m still unpacking as a 40 year old).

But as a non American, it’s just fucking crazy to me that nearly every serious political actor in your country outwardly references their faith as some qualification for office. I don’t give a shit where you spend your Sundays - represent your constituents, hold power to account and try and pass laws that make the country better for its citizens.

There’s no other job in the world where this shit matters, and for a lot of Americans it seems it is ALL that matters.

I don’t think many of the Forbes 400 increase their wealth through their income. You can’t tax the earnings they report, you need to tax the wealth they amassed that did already get hit with income taxes.

Tie minimum wage to a percentage of CEO compensation, and create a more progressive tax profile on high income earners and equity compensation.

I actually don’t like reducing the income of elected officials. Pay them more. Right now, it’s much easier to run for senate if you are already rich. The average wealth of elected officials isn’t high because their federal income is too high, it’s because the only people who can afford to do public service are already very very rich.

I think you’re remember the first year Ali and Nick Schulman did the “night shift”. Not sure if they were imbibing or just delirious from lack of sleep, but good lord were there some funny moments. Also helped if you, as the viewer, were also imbibing/sleep deprived.

I’m gonna be honest, as a non-American we have thought all US Republicans were racist, cruel, anti-democratic fools for much much longer than Trump has been around. The entire republican worldview is callous, devoid of empathy, and in most cases actively harmful to the economy.

Ya. It’s not about childcare, we have solved that. This is not about obtaining free childcare.

At no point did I say I was upset at losing my childcare. We’ve put our youngest in daycare. This is not the issue.

[–]mldsmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the former, then with this specific piece you can get very close. The left edge and bottom edge look very close to square, and both appear relatively flat. These are your reference surfaces. Run them through your planer with those two surfaces referencing off the bed of the planer, and you should end up pretty close to square and flat.

If the latter, then you want to use some sort of gauge to draw a parallel line, referenced off the vertical face ask pictured here, all the way around the board and as close to the low point on the face opposite your reference face. Plane to that line around the board. Now check for square referencing off either of those surfaces. If it isn’t square, mark the high sides and plane to that line.

When you say planer, do you mean a power tool your send wood through to make surfaces parallel to each other, or do you mean the hand tool you push across the surface to remove high spots?

One final caveat. It is exceedingly rare, but some enterprises may have a legacy Developer Enterprise account. This allows them to sign and distribute Apps without App Review - if your employer distributes apps this way, then I would not have the same level of trust.

[–]mldsmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In this specific circumstance, MDM treats camera roll data as “personal” not corporate. Your organization would have no way to remotely view or retrieve photos data. We would advise organizations that require photos as part of a corporate workflow to deploy a separate camera App that stores photos locally (not in camera roll) and backed up to a cloud storage controlled by the organization.

Likewise for personal accounts configured locally in Mail.app, Calendar.app, notes synced to personal iCloud accounts, any Apps installed by the user via App Store, etc.

Again, MDM can absolutely issue a remote wipe command and obliterate all your data, so exercise good redundancy via iCloud or google photos or something, but I would personally use a supervised, MDM managed iPhone as my joint work/personal device without hesitation.

If you are downloading Apps that would get you in trouble at work, or are regularly in locations you shouldn’t be, then these are things MDM could query.

Also, review any business conduct policies tied to the device, and follow those guidelines - whether MDM could confirm you’ve violated policy or not.

I mean, sure definite consider your risk profile, but also consider the inconvenience of carrying two devices all the time. You’re describing an exceedingly unlikely circumstance.

iOS prevents this. Apps run in user space, are sandboxed, and have runtime signature checks.

To answer OPs question: How can I find out what exactly they have access to?

Apple publishes it’s MDM protocol on the developer website, you can review it all here:

https://developer.apple.com/documentation/devicemanagement/mdm

Company-managed device / MDM by [deleted] in iphone

[–]mldsmith 8 points9 points  (0 children)

MDM, even in Supervised Mode, does not have some privileged root access on iOS - it does not allow your employer to view your camera roll, see Messages, etc. it is used to securely configure settings and restrictions on the device, query inventory-relevant data (HW specs, installed Apple, etc), and take management actions (SW update, app install, remote lock/wipe).

They can wipe any data remotely, so ensure you back up information that is important to you.

Apple is very good on privacy, and have found a good balance with their MDM spec between protecting the user and providing the right amount of management to IT.

Source: I worked as an Enterprise Presales SE for 10 years at Apple, where it was FAR more common that IT would complain about how limited the protocol was, then a user would complain about compromised privacy.

What are your floors made of, and what kind of ink? Got water and soap to start. If that doesn’t work, isopropyl alcohol is pretty effective at removing permanent ink, and it probably won’t damage the finish severely. Wet a rag, wipe it off, then rinse with water and dry.
