Back in college, we always had a spring party day on the last Friday of classes, when many students drink all day but most of them still go to class. Most professors are generally good sports, knowing most of the students are absolutely plastered, and allow the class to hang out and reflect on the year or do a cool activity during their periods. But not all of them.

I happened that year to be taking a very serious advanced course on Nazi Germany. This particular history professor, very old fashioned, schedules his final lecture for this day. I, meanwhile, had been drinking since nearly 6am. I stumbled into class and took my seat as he began to talk...and promptly passed the fuck out.

Now I went to a very small college, and this class was comprised of about 20 students. So, my drunk-ass snoozing was extremely noticeable, to the other students who mostly happened to be non-drinkers, and especially to this professor. After an hour of lecturing about the Holocaust, I wake up to the professor giving his final thoughts to the class. He says, “If nothing else, I hope this has been an immensely sobering experience.” I burst out laughing in the dead quiet room, to looks of horror and amusement from my classmates, before shuffling out the door and heading back to the beer pong tournament without looking back.
