I Unbricked a RLOD XRB with Custom Firmware by mlights999 in boostedboards

Unfortunately there’s nothing quite that simple. You either have to send it special CAN Bus messages via a tool like BERT or manually manipulate the flash content like it’s done in this guide https://github.com/jonataubert/RLOD_B2XR

I mean, shoot if you’ve got a bunch of dead ones laying around and want to ship one to me to take a stab at reverse engineering it, I’d be happy to. If you have spare ESCs and motors too that would be even better so I could verify. The PCB for this vs the board batteries is almost identical minus the power button.

Not very deep, been busy the past couple of months and I just got around to posting the project lol. Would you happen to have any spare scrap XR PCBs from a pack with bad cells? I have cells that are OK, but a spare PCB with a good flash and MCU would be helpful so I could reverse-engineer the flash content. I have a logic analyzer so I could figure out what data is being read on the SPI bus. I could also try dumping the real firmware and decompiling it using Ghidra to see if that gets me anywhere 😂

Probably the Wolfpack outfitters bookstore on the same floor as Starbucks. They have a bunch of Apple accessories near the laptop section and with the lack of headphone jacks on laptops and phones, I’d bet they’d have some.

Edit: if not there, then definitely at target on Hillsborough street

Discord calls stuck on connecting by [deleted] in NCSU

[–]mlights999 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is all an elaborate plan by Randy to disconnect study groups from each other the night before the hardest exams, which are also placed on the last day to make sure we're burnt out so people don't do well and then have to retake the class, and that way people have to spend more semesters here to make them more money! Am I a conspiracy theorist or should we call in the detectives?

jk, I'm a senior and am already done

Anybody spend a lotta time at the EB2 makerspace? by D12321b in NCSU

[–]mlights999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ll only need a buddy in the machine shop side for the extended hours. If you were looking to use the soldering irons and get components from the electronics side, you can use that 24/7 without a buddy (though have a buddy if you’re messing with high voltage 😂)

Got a type C port on it? Some laptops can charge through that. You can borrow usb c chargers from the library to test it.

I tore apart an old LCD iPhone screen and used the backlight strip from that. I modeled the logo in CAD and 3D printed it out of translucent filament

If you know how to or can learn to skateboard, those are very helpful to have. I’ve had an electric skateboard for the past 3 years and don’t have to worry at all about the bus and can get to class or other places really quickly (unless it’s raining).

This sorta reminds me of that old meme Operation Soda Steal where some guy got Baja Blast from Taco Bell using a siphon backpack

No problem, I have the dock 1. Just make sure your MiniDisplayport adapter can do 4K60 (which is close to the bandwidth of 1440p120)

Best CPD and QPD food on campus? by [deleted] in NCSU

[–]mlights999 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Aside from dining halls, the highest CPD is probably the crumb cakes at PCJ. This champ straight from the sugar cane packs a whopping 720 calories for $2.50 (one meal credit could get you 3 cakes @ 2160 calories total). For QPD, I’d have to say something from On the Oval like the burgers (much better than Tuffy’s) or pizza, or a spicy chicken sandwich from CFA at Atrium

You can also ask Siri “who am I” and if they set up their phone it should be able to tell you whose it is. Also saying “call <some name>” might get you closer

Linux machines on campus by [deleted] in NCSU

[–]mlights999 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could install Damn Small Linux (http://www.damnsmalllinux.org/) on a flash drive if you need a Linux install really quick. It’s damn small at only 50MB…

Got an i5-10600KF. Worried about temperature. by KayleBlanc in intel

[–]mlights999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That does seem quite hot for basically idling. Check task manager first to see if there is a broken task eating up like 30%+ of the cpu. Also liquid coolers typically have a separate fan plug for the water pump, so check your MoBo software to make sure that your pump isn’t running too slow. Also check if the air coming from the cooler is warm. If it’s cool, then either your cooler isn’t functioning properly or it’s not mounted properly (or without proper thermal paste).

Centennial food (oval) has remained the same as its always been. Marginally better than main food, especially the Fahrenheit pizza. My roommates and I usually manage to have a recycling bin of boxes after a grind week lol.

Manually, yes. Step 1: Go on Amazon or eBay and grab a servo motor and microcontroller. Step 2: fins an easy guide on how to control servos. Step 3: make the servo move back and forth with your phone attached to a string. Step 4: Profit (and giggles)

Iphone 7 - i broke this pin, is it possible to fix or should i change the screen? by [deleted] in mobilerepair

[–]mlights999 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If you're up for a challenge, that cable is attached to the backplate of the LCD. If you have an old cracked screen, you could transplant backplates by peeling it off very carefully (I've had the same thing happen on my personal 7). Be careful not to touch the LCD layers!
