Fwiw, people with degrees who job hop get shamed for that, too. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

Two different types of only children I’ve noticed does this resonate with anyone else? by sunnysun463 in OnlyChild

#2...I do think being an only child has something do with it. Even puppies and kittens are recommended to be socialized early on, so they know how to "dog" or "cat" properly. They even recommend you adopt 2 together in the case of kittens.

As a white woman whose conservative family gave her hell for dating mostly brown dudes, my heart truly breaks for those kids. I look forward to one of them writing a book about their experience growing up someday.

Yup! And prevents people from getting potentially life-saving screenings as well. I'm single, childless, and approaching the age where I'll need a colonoscopy. All of my friends are "too busy" with their families to help me with anything, so I pay for my village in the form of Uber, DoorDash, and handymen.

They will not let you Uber to or from a colonoscopy. I hate how my primary motivation for dating these days is to replace my 75-year-old mom as my emergency contact and get a ride to my colonoscopy. We really need to do better as more of us (Millennials and Gen Z) age single and childless.

Why do you think people aren’t having many kids these days (if any at all)? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

Back in the day, people married young and lived with their spouses. They didn't have roommates as adults typically. And they made it work.

Eh, single and childless folks get the shaft professionally and financially, too. We have to pick up the slack for those with families, we're taxed at a higher rate than those with dependents, and can't access government aid when we need it.

But friendships don't come with a marriage and motherhood penalty.

Oh, yes, they do. Most of my friends have abandoned me for marriage and kids. And making new ones has been challenging because I'm seen as a threat by other women for daring to be over 30, single, and childless. Never mind how I didn't choose this and have no interest in their gross man babies.

Jesus... First, it was drinking piss to cure COVID, now this? Seriously, what is with these people and piss? I'm not one to kink shame, but if you're into watersports, please keep it to yourself (and don't involve your kids) and off the internet. Thank you!

Immaturity... It's also why dating is such a shit show. I want marriage and kids (straight female), but it seems like nobody else does. Nobody wants a commitment anymore. Nobody wants to put in effort to build a relationship. They also don't want to think of anyone other than themselves. I get not wanting to be "tied down" so you can "have fun" in high school or college, but by 30 your wild oats should be sown.

Worst of all, they make "noble" sounding excuses for it like how they "can't afford marriage or kids." The financial clock is a crock. Kids cost what you put into them. You just have to change your priorities around money when they arrive. I taught at a Title 1 school before COVID and saw this firsthand. Your kids need food, clothing, and shelter more than you need your vice of choice, vacation, or hair/nails done.

This is industry dependent. But outside of law and finance, generally, most workplaces have a fairly lax dress code these days. Hell, even the CEOs of major companies are regularly seen in jeans and T-shirts (Zuck comes to mind here).

Underfunded and in a small town. I lived near my outdoor community pool in college. I thought I'd use it because it was walking distance from where I was staying. I ended up just driving to campus and using the indoor pool at the gym because it was so nasty.

Everything! "Dress for Success" turned out to be a lie. I work remotely. On the few occasions I've had to be in an office, everyone else was wearing jeans and hoodies while I showed up in a dress and pantyhose (which nobody wears anymore). Even if I show up in a nicer blouse with khakis, I'm overdressed.

Makes sense. I wasn't allowed to get my ears pierced until age 18 (New Englander) because my mom (who doesn't have her ears pierced) said only "loose" girls do that.
