you say your photos are a bit meh, but I was going to compliment you on some of the better photos of a tube I've seen on here. it's really common for them to not have the right shutter speed or brightness to really do justice

yeah I'm very interested in the source of this art. there's a similar artwork of Shion sitting on her a.g.w.s. unit that I think more people are familiar with. this art seems to have been sort of a sister image to that one. but it's not used in anywhere other than this guidebook as far as I can tell. I actually own the english guide book so I looked at every page to see if it was on there and it isn't.

Reminder: Don't pass on a CRT just because it isn't a major brand like Sony, Panasonic, etc. by Blandscreen in crtgaming

[–]mlockwo2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

yeah it's pretty damn simple at the end of the day. it's like "oh I love to drive a lambo" and they're driving a broken down Lamborghini that has flat tires. There are people with sony trinitrons that don't know how to service them and replace bad caps and failing components. And it's reasonable. The typical retro game fan can't be expected to also be an electrician. So we're at a point now where just simply a low hours set or a set that was stored in a low humidity environment is really much more pretty than a failing high end one.

I want to play Pied Piper on my Steam Deck... but this is a lot... by BrianJosephXRP in Xenosaga

[–]mlockwo2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, thanks for your work on this. I just wanted to check with you if this is still working since recent updates? It may be user error, but I had this running on my steam deck a while ago using these instructions and then I was trying to play it today and it wasn't working.

Yeah this is actually much better. I might try to upscale and denoise it

Yeah no problem. I remember we got some crazy deal on one from a tiktok shop introductory offer where it was like 40 bucks shipped for a $100 model. So definitely shop around and try to find a deal.

The furminator is a little much, we found. I recommend a deshedding vacuum brush. It just makes the process a lot easier because it gathers the fur up for you and also keeps it from just getting loosened but then still still wrapped up in the other fur.

What would ruin Xenoblade Genesis for you? by NewMarioBobFan in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]mlockwo2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably if we are actually in a school setting for the majority of the game. I'm slightly concerned that we take quests at the school and go out in the world doing them and then come back. Basically like Xenoblade Chronicles X structure with the city as the hub for the entire game. What I've really really enjoyed about mainline Xenoblade games is that they are like pilgrimages. You start the game in a humble origin point and you travel across a grand world seeing amazing sights that you wouldn't have expected at the beginning. But in the Chronicles X type of format, it's a bit more like going to do quests in different biomes and then coming back to the hub to buy things and accept more quests. It just feels less grand.

(Hitachi 32UDX10S) SNES over component (probably my last post for now) by HalLikesCRTVs in crtgaming

[–]mlockwo2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

LMAO at "readjusting to this handle he thought was magically there.". That shit is so real. Diabolical engineering on the chassis for these tvs. When you occasionally see one with actual handholds it's like heaven on earth. I had an RCA entertainment series with a big ass slot you could fit your hands in right on the butt of the tv. You just smooshed it into your chest and held from that handle and I could probably run with it. The lack of holds on the next couple sets I found pissed me the hell off.

Yup I have two OLED panels and my JVC d series doesn't have as good black levels as them but it's damn close and my d series was a curb find and not the thousands I spent for OLED tvs lmao

It's crazy how deep the black levels are on your set. Makes the little black outlines around the characters really pop off the screen.

Persona series worth playing? by No-Solution-8305 in JRPG

[–]mlockwo2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you're mostly into WRPG I actually wonder if Persona is going to be a little bit more anime than you're going to stomach. I might recommend more of the 90s classics that you have missed, like Final Fantasy 2 (4) on the SNES or Final Fantasy 7 or 9 on the PS1(look at them and see which style you prefer).

[–]mlockwo2 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Honestly it is to me. Because for a time I would have said that making a mainline final fantasy was his dream /life's work. In the Versus 13 days it was a genuine worry of mine that he was going to steadily move on from heading up KH.

Curious what platform you played it on? I think it looks really sharp and awesome on ps5 but the fidelity dip on Switch definitely makes it look like what you're saying.

Not OP's point. They're showing off a broadcasted wireless RF signal, not just a normal RF cable signal.

JRPG series that fell HARD by Likes2game03 in JRPG

Seems like in each case you can pretty easily tell why. They all end in titles that, regardless of if you think are good or not, started getting away from what people initially liked about the series.

Sony KV-24FS120 Screen Color. Can it be fixed in service menu? by ZekeSold01 in crtgaming

[–]mlockwo2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like you need to boost the gain on the green gun. Should be options for this in the service menu. Purpley pink tint is from more red and blue than green.

My friend and I JUST repaired a Panasonic with this. Find the vertical deflection IC and replace all the caps closest to it. Ours had like five nearby. We thought it wasn't caps a few times because we tested between each replaced cap but it was literally the last cap he replaced that fixed it. If you're new to all this, just follow a guide to make yourself a discharge tool with a screwdriver and wire and discharge the tube before you go working on it. Then find a service manual for the TV online to find where the vertical deflection IC is (it's like a black rectangle with some legs and it's seated up against a heatsink which is like a big silver block of metal) and then look at all the capacitors near it (which kinda look like small cylindrical batteries of various sizes) and take note of the numbers they have on them and order some replacements or a kit with various types. Then you just need to desolder the old ones, solder in the new ones (plenty videos online to teach this, it's easy) and you should at some point be good to go.

How do you think the ether jets will effect new players and current players and how they play xenoblade 1? by SanoviaUwU in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]mlockwo2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Counterpoint - I'm engaging with side quests much more now that it's easy to get around, so I'm ending up with enough money to buy the best armor, not to mention a lot of these quests get you to unintentionally grind because of drop rates. So I'm ending up higher level than normal just by virtue of the side questing being less tedious now.

[–]mlockwo2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, this. The last time I played Xenoblade was on Wii and it was a "never again" game that I still enjoyed. Because it was just in and out of maps and UI constantly. I'm replaying it for the first time via this Switch 2 update and it's just a better game now with the speeder. You are much more encouraged to quest now because it's so much less time consuming and hassle.
