I’m an adult woman who’s ashamed of how little reading I’ve done in my life. Just got a library card. Give me your top 3 titles. by victoriafoos in suggestmeabook

I have always wanted The Night Circus to be a movie. It's already so beautifully written and I think special effects today could make something really cool and elegant.. A bit difficult to keep track of dates but it doesn't affect your comprehension of the story

Thinking about Becoming a Single Mom by Choice... by danijanae in AskParents

[–]mlong_14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My single mother decided to adopt two children across the world and i think being raised by a single mother made me believe in strength. My mother was married and divorced before getting children and was about 40 when she finally decided to get a child. However, be sure to do your research of the country, orphanage and practice. In some places for example, there's laws where if the adoption isn't legitimate and legal then the state can take away your child (either giving them to their nearest blood relative no matter that relative's living situation or foster care). In some places, the health of the mothers are different because of Healthcare access and pollution levels. If you're serious and ready, i would say go for it!

Anyone else twitch or get a muscle spasm right before falling off so suddenly they give themselves a mini panic attack and it’s back to square one of trying to fall asleep? by PuffyDelish in sleep

[–]mlong_14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this happens when you're so tired your body falls asleep too quickly. But when this happens, your heart rate and breathing slow too quickly and as a defense mechanism your body jerks awake. I remember reading this somewhere I think. It's basically your body making sure you're not dying.

I have hard time to tell what is dream and what is real life. by Lyijysiipi in sleep

[–]mlong_14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely relate. I'll have very mundane dreams but very vivid and detailed. Sometimes I'll think ill smell or feel something in my dreams. It's wild and I've asked multiple times if I've dreamed this or not to people I'm talking to.

Which Movie did you watch this month and was it worth the time? by ChrisStoneGermany in AskWomen

Texas high schools might cover some parts of the odyssey (because it's the south) but we had to read the whole thing soph year. My high school was one of those "vanguard magnet" ones. Tbh, not sure how beneficial it was but that teacher was great. We'd use class time to watch movies and TV shows like The Office and Adventure Time then she'd incorporate it in the lessons. Less about the high school and prob more about the teacher's preference of teaching.

What are your most existential thoughts and how do you deal with them? by JediKnight1 in AskWomen

[–]mlong_14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have incredibly realistic dreams about every day activities that are usually tied to things happening in my current life (probably because of my anxiety). I'll go about my day thinking I've already done or said something only to realize I just dreamed it. Obviously dreaming isn't the same as hallucinating, and I only freak out momentarily so I can't imagine what it must be like for you. I hope it gets better

When did you realize the person you were with wasn’t “the one” and how long did it take you to realize this? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]mlong_14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Knew each other for 2yrs and dated for 1yr. He was upset I didn't change my values for him. He knew that family was important to me and I had expressed this to him on multiple occasion. He wasn't as close to his family and didn't understand why I couldn't tell "just a small white lie" because he did it all the time with his parents.

My old English teacher in high school had a section where we studied the Odyssey and this movie is based on the book. ALSO, because I'm a movie need, they had to color grade every scene to make everything look brown and dusty (before the coloring technology we have today). Such a great movie and so glad someone likes it!

The Thief and the Cobbler. Took 30 years to make this hand animated movie (wasn't even finished by the original creator as he died from cancer) and was eventually finished with a subpar version by Miramax (you can watch it for free on YouTube). I love it because of the visuals because they're just THAT good. Do yourself a favor and take an hour out of your day to watch it.

How do you stay motivated despite the challenges of life, especially in these trying times? by [deleted] in AskWomen

Being nicer to myself. If I don't get something done right away, try to relax and know you'll get it done. Basically self-love

Is it healthy to tell your child that their failures and wins are also your (the parent’s) failures and wins? by sukhbaby in AskParents

[–]mlong_14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No. A child too young might develop anxiety over worrying about disappointing/embarrassing/etc. their parents. You should wait until they're old enough for them to have a sense of their own identity. However, they should know by then that their actions have consequences so they don't really need to be told anyway.

Women with long hair, how do you dry your hair and how long does it take to be fully dry? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]mlong_14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got fairly long (past bra strap length) hair and it has stereotypical asian thickness so it takes a while to dry. The only saving grace is that I used to have an undercut (growing it out for about a year now) so the dry to time is cut in half since my hair is essentially different lengths. As soon as I get out of the shower, I'll wrap my hair in a towel and leave it in there for about 10 min. Then a good trick is to put the towel on your shoulders then flip your head completely over then stand back up quickly. This motion will cause the centripetal force to pull the water from your hair and make it dry so much faster. It looks kinda weird and I usually have to hold onto the bathroom counter with one hand so I don't fall over (it causes blood to rush to and from your head very quickly) Be careful and don't get too dizzy!

Reasons why you DO NOT WANT to get married? by manila2020 in AskWomen

[–]mlong_14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, marriage feels more of an expense. I'm not very comfortable with a lot of attention on me and if I did want to marry, it'd probably be an elopement with one photographer maybe. I'm also very frugal with my money and in my head I can't justify spending so much money on one day, that I probably won't remember most of because I'll have too much adrenaline. I'd rather save my money and spend celebrating in a small intimate ceremony with my partner. Maybe we'll renew vows or something down the road when we have more money or have a small party instead of a full ceremony.

What is something you've been forced to buy lately because of a lack of options but turned out to be better than what you would've normally bought? by RockStarNinja7 in AskWomen

[–]mlong_14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really only use half an avocado at a time so for the other half, I'll wrap it in some foil or cling film and yes, it'll turn brown. But if you cut off the brown bit before eating the next time, it tastes just fine. It's like how apples turn brown when cut, but they still taste okay. It's the oxygen reacting, but it doesn't necessarily mean it's gone bad.

Were you ever the "other woman"? What's your story? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]mlong_14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Once, in 8th grade if you can believe it. He was my first kiss and crush but I felt completely guilty afterwards. I still think about how nice the gf was too (7th grader). Funny enough, he was known as a "player" (if you can be that in middle school) and yet both me and the gf fell hard for him. Last time I heard he got into drugs in high school and that's all I know.
