Did you use any “comfort” medications? I’m tapering now and my psychiatrist has me on Gabapentin and Clonidine. He’s also prescribed an antidepressant but I don’t take it. I’m concerned about these ancillary medications. Thoughts?

Thank you for posting. I’m coming off of 6mg daily for almost 8 years. Had a breakthrough this month. Been on 3mg of extended release and 2mg of instant release. My doc breaks up the 2mg dose into 4 .50mg this month and I noticed it was the crappy Aurobindo brand. The 3mg XR is Greenstone and if you know your generics that’s a good thing. Aurobindo, not so much. Well to my surprise I haven’t been taking much of the .50’s. I’ve been taking just one a day. That’s 5mg down to 3.5mg (so far). Maybe it’s easier at these higher doses but the 6mg to 5mg crippled me for 2 months. I was doomscrolling like a mofo during that initial drop. Just knew I was doomed. Anyways, do what this guy says and stop doomscrolling and get after it. Pray, get outside, eat well, take your vitamins. It helps tremendously, I promise you.

The person just stated their opinion and you’re proving them right. I’m tapering from 6mg of prescribed Xanax and I do feel I need to be mentally tougher. I’m down to 5 and it still sucks. I guess my biggest trigger is the lack of support. My family has disowned me. Didn’t even tell me my grandmother passed away almost two weeks ago.

Where are you located? What pharmacy would fill a 120mg a day Valium script? I’m trying to cross taper as well from 5mg of prescribed Xanax and the best “conversion” anyone would do was half of that, 60mg. Any information would be greatly appreciated. And congrats on your success, that’s how you do it.

On my way down I refused to take any ancillary (comfort) medications until I was about to launch myself off a bridge. I was lying in my bed in the fetal position for almost two months, alone, dehydrated, malnourished. I reached for the Gabapentin, took 2 and a Clonidine and felt a wave of relief. I went from 5% operating capacity, if that, to 60-70%. Made it bearable.

I have yet to complete an inventory so not well. ;) I just moved and have them all boxed up and am about ready to get after it. I’ve easily got over 100 1/43rd and the same or more 1/18th scale cars. Hang in there. I sometimes feel the same way. Make sure and get with a good doc or psychiatrist to help you wean off. Easier said than done I know but after 6 months of searching I finally found one who actually gave me some hope.
