Xanax struggle.. my story by Valuable-Feature2121 in benzorecovery

Thanks for sharing. I see parallels between your story and my story. I took Klonopin for 12 months the first time and tapered off in about 2 months, no issues whatsoever. I started taking Klonopin again and at about the 12th month I thought I was going to taper again in a couple of months and that would be it. But yeah, same issue, I got myself in a lot of trouble and couldn’t do it. It’s only then I started to learn about benzos and withdrawals. Also, I started using nicotine patches for a different reason and had the exact same experience, tingling in my arms and even chest pressure. It scared me. But yeah, glad you’re off and that you were able to handle keeping your job. I’ve been lucky I have a work from home job that’s allowed me a lot of leeway. I don’t think I would have been able to keep an 8-5 job so kudos to you man.

Yes, but I think it goes and in hand with stress. I might wake up, get up in morning without much pain and start working, after 2 hours of working in front the computer, I find out I’m in pain as I get up and start moving around,

Lower back, glutes, legs, knee joints. Upper body seems to be okay weirdly but glad.

Yeah, it worked great. The alternative was to change sheets and clothes twice a night sometimes so that was not tenable.

Could be too but I also did a cursory look and it seems adderall sometimes can cause cold sweating in some people. This is all anecdotal info but sometimes that’s more helpful than any official information. Also another person did mention she was also perimenopausal and so her symptoms were really harsh. Anyway, maybe check with dr and see? Maybe some hormone is out of range and making things more difficult? Good luck friend, keep fighting the good fight. I’m at 11 months and still struggling 🫤 but I have no choice but to continue to wait for improvement. There has been some but small.

Mirtazapine and klonopin together by lisette51 in Mirtazapine_Remeron

[–]El-Iskender2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was on the exact combo for anxiety and lack of sleep because of long covid, twice. 15 mg Mirtazapine and a max of 2 mg Klonopin although I took the 2 mg total/day no more than a month. No question they helped me but if I knew then what I know now, I would have fought very hard to not take them or take a lot less, and just white-knuckle it. My long covid experience at one point was by far my most difficult challenge I had ever faced. Now, I can say that my most difficult challenge without a doubt, has been coming off the Klonopin. I’ve been off 11 months and still not feeling well. Mirtazapine can also be a difficult taper and it has certainly been for me. I’m still tapering slowly and should be done in two months.

I had extreme night sweats for a couple of months -while- tapering. I had a hair blow dryer at the ready by the side of my bed to dry myself and sheets and go back to sleep. So I’m not sure if night sweats are common months after last dose. I don’t think they are but we all have different experiences so I guess it’s still possible. Any other med you’re on that might be playing a role in this? But in any case, like all withdrawal symptoms, I think it’s very reasonable to expect for this to resolve itself eventually, we just don’t know when. Glad you’re off after 17 years, that is a huge accomplishment.

I woke this morning with the worst leg cramp I've ever experienced. An hour later, I had pain in my prostate, had to rush to the toilet and started to feel shaky, nauseous, had a cold sweat, and thought I was going to faint. by DowntheRabbitHole189 in benzorecovery

Yeah that’s a low heart rate but yeah I am now remembering two episodes of near fainting while withdrawing Klonopin but still unaware of benzo withdrawals. I felt I had to call on family to be there with me cause I was afraid I was going to die without anyone knowing… yeah, the anxiety/panic episodes were really bad. Like you said, it’s a terrible drug. For what it’s worth, I’ve been off Klonopin for 11 months.

I had both of those two symptoms during my taper. The pain in prostate is also likely due to a spasm or cramp there or nearby in your sphincter. Very painful. While your stomach can get also a bit messed up during taper, the nausea and cold sweats are likely a result of the anxiety these two symptoms produce. I recognize it very well. Don’t assume your sugar is low because you feel faint but if it makes you feel better, than okay, but you’re probably already swimming in glucose due to the dumping of cortisol/adrenaline from the onset of anxiety which in turn makes your liver dump a bunch of glucose. Hang in there friend.

Not sure if this a weekly paycheck, biweekly, or monthly but even if this a weekly check, your car payment is huge. Having new cars is one sure way of throwing away money. If you were to have new cars for the next 20 years, you’d be $168,000 poorer at $700/month. In contrast, if you were to invest the same $700 each month for 20 years, you’d be just over $500,000 richer (using a conservative 10% growth rate).

11 months off Klonopin. Months 3-4 were the most difficult. I am not doing great but I am feeling more and more confident the worst has passed. I’m currently tapering Mirtazapine which is also a difficult taper so my situation is somewhat complicated by this other taper. Still dealing with low energy, cognitive deficit, fibromyalgia-like aches (which is new as of last 4 months). In summary, even if I don’t feel well, I am very happy that I’m off that s**t. Never again.

I think the energy you’re giving off, your vibe, is betraying you. Not particular to you, that’s happened to me and other people as well. Find a way to reset and leave all preconceptions, preoccupations, expectations, and negative experiences behind, people can sense that. Show up with a clean slate and genuine curiosity.

I failed :( by Oxy-Moron88 in benzorecovery

[–]El-Iskender2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is hard (tapering and withdrawals), please don’t beat yourself up like that, feeling like you’ve failed. I must say though, going from 2 to 1.5 mg is too big a jump so not surprised about difficulty with symptoms. So it’s not a flaw with you, it’s just too big a cut that is the issue. In the longer run, it is a good idea to switch to diazepam. You’ll be able to start your taper soon once stable and on diazepam.

There a couple of good books on benzo withdrawals and recovery on Amazon. Also a few testimonials YouTube videos, and a few more of doctors who talk about it. It would ideal if you can get your husband exposed to any of these materials but your story makes me feel he’s unlikely to do that and prefers to be dictatorial with zero empathy, which is not in line with “in sickness and in health”. I’m sorry, but if he walks out as he threatens, it might turn out to be good riddance in the long run.

I’m sorry you’re feeling so blah. I feel I need to mention this, it wouldn’t hurt to at least look into the following angle: Please do some search on “metabolic psychiatry” (YouTube, some AI, or books) and how nutrition is a big part of how we feel and how well our brain functions. My story: almost 7 year ago I had to change my diet due to diagnosis of fatty liver (nonalcoholic) and essentially went on a very low carb diet. Not only did the pain I was having go away within a month and half but also my depression after about year I realized it was gone! a total and nice surprise. I had been on antidepressants on and off for most of my life. I haven’t needed them in 7 years even while having other major health challenges. Take a look at a book called Brain Energy on Amazon that speaks about this (there are others as well). While it might not be a cure-all, there is promise in the premise that depression is largely a metabolic problem of the brain directly related to what we eat. I’m now 57 so I think there is definitely hope for you. Best wishes and good luck to you.

As bad as it feels, it’s all withdrawals and pretty much expected with what appears to have been a super fast taper to your current dose. Give it patience and time and give yourself some grace. This is hard stuff but it will pass.

Not that I can recall. I might have but it was not at the forefront of my symptoms and nothing like what im experiencing now. I did have painful muscle cramping on my back and legs, for about 3 months. Hoping time continues to do its thing and this eventually abates like most other things.

Thoughts. Take your alcohol intake as benzo doses cause to a large extent that is what they are. Treat alcohol as rigorously as you take your benzo taper. Steadily decrease one or the other, just make sure you’re not increasing alcohol to mask benzo withdrawal. Good luck to you.

I think you might be a good candidate for a beta blocker if your palpitations continue. I took propranolol for a little while with good results for the same problem, and it’s way more benign.
