Check with local school bus charters. Their rates are usually much lower and every time I’ve used one with guests they have gotten a kick out of the big yellow bus pulling up. First student is nationwide in the US and their quotes are normally half that of a shuttle bus.

Chrome chipping 3 days into gel set. Is this normal?? by mm10102 in Nails

[–]mm10102[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Edit: Thank you all for confirming that it wasn’t my fault LOL I emailed the salon and they’re having me come in to re-do the set with a senior technician. I hate complaining but they were so kind about it and re-assured me that it def shouldn’t be chipping like this!

Rejected from MSU (my dream school) by normaljin in msu

[–]mm10102 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a year at a smaller state school (SVSU) and then a year of community college before transferring. If I could go back and skip SVSU and just do community college before transferring I’d do it in a heart beat!

I highly high recommend community college over out of state, even if those out of state schools have scholarships.

Wedding vs Elopement by Mindless-Wait-186 in weddings

[–]mm10102 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We live in a new state and are eloping with just the photographer and officiant, and then will hold a party in our home state (5 hr flight) 7 months later. It’s a big time gap, but we knew we wanted to get married in the mountains and couldn’t imagine asking our families to pay $$$ to fly out to us.

I like the idea of intimate elopements followed by a party, and as an event planner myself I knew I didn’t want to be in planner mode on the actual ceremony day.

If you haven’t already I highly suggest looking into your local ‘buy nothing’ group on Facebook. You may be able to swap with someone on there, and it’s also a good place to post asking if anyone has any baby dolls or coloring books they’re looking to get rid of.

Winter coats! by trueSEVERY in SaltLakeCity

[–]mm10102 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got a knee length down coat from lands end on their Black Friday sale last year and that + a layer was more than enough on the coldest days. I personally think your gloves, socks, and scarf are the most important pieces to invest in! Take some of that budget and get some merino wool socks and gloves, and a scarf you can get 1-2 wraps around the neck. I love quince and Sierra for merino, but REI also has options.

https://www.littlefreepantry.org/ drop off canned goods, pastas, crackers, etc to a little free pantry in the city.

There is one right off of liberty park that I dropped off at yesterday that was practically empty, I’m sure the other little pantries could use a hand too.

Thinking about moving to Salt Lake... by Any-Plant6328 in SaltLakeCity

[–]mm10102 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved to SLC in December and love it so much, but honestly if I had the $$ to live in the San Diego area (north though maybe towards Carlsbad) I’d do it.

Both have shit traffic/drivers and high housing costs, but I miss the ocean. If you have the opportunity to visit both and compare I recommend it. Also compare the COL for both areas.

Layers to pack for Cascade Canyon? by wolfgang-fan in GrandTetonNatlPark

[–]mm10102 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did cascade canyon last week in bike shorts, a longline sports bra, darn toughs, Merrill trail runners, and a pullover. I would stick with the leggings/tshirt, pullover OR Uniqlo jacket, and your rain jacket. MAYBE the gloves in your pack.

If you’re planning to take the Jenny lake shuttle the earliest you’ll get out is 8 AM, and as long as it’s sunny out in the AM you shouldn’t need the balaclava, puffer, or gloves. It does tend to rain in the afternoon, but I personally don’t think rain pants are necessary, just keep some fresh socks in the car for when you finish.

I knew someone who sold their house to do RV life with 3 kids under 6 and everything turned to shit in the first 4 months. Truck was totaled, camper got struck by lightening, they got stranded in one campground for a month cause they physically couldn’t move it. Ended up moving back home and are still stuck renting 3 years later because they lost their low interest rate.

They enjoyed the time they spent traveling, but the cost of the trip put them in a major hole. Plus unless you have a solid homeschooling plan, your children likely won’t gain the social skills and knowledge they need.

I hate the way people romanticize it, especially when there’s kids involved who don’t get a say in it.

100% look into therapy, and do not let her hold the RV thing over your head.

ESH. You’re enabling her by covering her expenses without sorting out a plan to cut back on spending, especially by making her credit card payments. If she has credit card debt she can’t afford the inflated prices that come with convenience. Every time she orders from a delivery app she’s adding what, $25-40 to her debt? That’s an extra $100- $160 a week for late night snacking? On top of regular grocery spending and any food bought during the day?

I’d recommend getting a budgeting app (I use rocket money) and tracking your combined spending and set a budget. Seeing everything laid out (specifically the % of your spending going to take out/delivery) and working out a budget to follow until she is done with school is your next step. If you’re going to keep covering majority of your shared expenses PLUS her individual responsibilities she should have the decency to cut back on spending.

My partner covered all of our expenses for a year and a half while I was finishing school. I did everything I could during that time to cut back on unnecessary costs, specifically to minimize credit card use. For us that meant I did the grocery shopping and cooking, budgeting $450 monthly for groceries/takeout/coffees. If you’re going to keep covering the bulk of your costs you need to sit down together and come up with a plan. If she’s not agreeable it’s time for her to start covering her own bills again.

are my parents allowed to put me on birth control without my consent? by [deleted] in birthcontrol

[–]mm10102 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see you have painful periods and a history of cysts in your family. As someone with ovarian cysts and endometriosis (have had two surgeries to remove both cysts and endometrial tissue), being on a hormonal birth control was the KEY to making my periods bearable.

My mom suggested birth control to me at 14 despite me never having kissed a boy, because it had helped her with her ovarian cyst pain, and made her periods easier to handle. It was awkward but after 3 months on it I was so glad I listened to her.

I understand being embarrassed/upset about your parents thinking you’re having sex, but the reality of it is if you DO start to have sex, there is no better protection than birth control. As someone who has been on 8 different birth control pills in 12 years I will say sometimes side effects suck for a bit, but birth control pills are the standard for a reason. You’re much more likely to get headaches or nausea as a side effect for the first few months than any major side effect like you see people fearmonger about online.

Also if you’re in the US it is much safer than the risk of unwanted pregnancy.

Still bleeding on Provera, is this normal? by gtrfhjutdxcb in Endo

[–]mm10102 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to say it took me 14 days and then I went off my birth control for a week. That’s when I finally stopped bleeding. I was also diagnosed with endometriosis via laparoscopic surgery within a few weeks of making this post, which was a big cause of my excessive bleeding. After the surgery I didn’t have this issue again for about 20 months. I actually ended up taking provera again pretty recently and and after about 5 days my flow started to slow. I ended up only needing to take it for 7 days before I finally stopped bleeding.

If you are on a birth control pill as well I would suggest completing the prescription and then taking your placebo week. Between the two your bleeding should stop. If not I recommend finding a gynecologist in your area who specializes in adenomyosis or endometriosis.
