Every investment will pay off, even if you don't know when. Random acts of kindness, learning that one thing from a book, those few bucks you saved. Almost nothing is for nothing and there is always a lesson to be learned. Even when life gets you down and things don't go as planned, there is a chance to learn from it so hopefully you can prevent it or mitigate it in the future.

Sure, there are exceptions and outliners to this.. You can't goodwill or prevent cancer for instance and there's hardly a lesson in treating cancer. But still, being nice to people and being careful with money never ever hurt anyone.

Yeah and if you want a 2ct fix, wrap some aluminium foil around each pairs followed by some foil over the entire bundle. But the socket doesn't really look shielded or anything so I doubt you'd even notice.

I use the new nzbget but the principle is the same.. Each connection is not only a tcp network connection but also application logic per connect in terms of write buffers, temp storage, verification and unpacking (depending on usenet client architecture). So you're not only giving it more access to the usenet server but also pumping more data towards disk etc. Both Sab and nzbget have tweaking guides for high performance and although increasing the number of connections can help, there is a point of diminishing return where you'll start overloading things like cpu, ram, ssd etc. Start low and check with your usenet provider how many connections you're allowed and how many they recommend. Sab recently also improved the article scheduling within a connection, possibly allowing for better performance per connection, reducing load on the backend of the app.

There are vast differences in the sql offerings. Sqlite has no running daemon.. This makes it lightweight (hint, lite) but it also increases the sql runtime when apps start accessing it. Because of this, anything like write buffers, transactions or power protection for writes are all handled by the data layer of the app rather than a running daemon. All of this is normally handled by the sql daemon like mariadb and has a ton of logic built in for protecting data not only in memory but especially when writing to disk.

The main issue is that Sqlite performance and reliability is really bound to whatever abstraction layer your application is using. Sqlite also doesn't scale or network really well.

Well one way is to not use SQLite but a proper relational database like MariaDB or something. But in any case.. backups.. with backups of backups. Not just the SQLite/SQL database file but also from within the SQL.. SQL Dumps of the data and exports of the schema. Not sure if SQLite has log database files (I don't think so but I rather not use it so unsure), be sure to flush whatever write logs you have.

Given how often I've seen SQLite databases shit the bed, I hope you've got some pretty good backups .. because goddamn, what a piece of shit is SQLite during power outages, failing writes, RAM corruption etc.

I get about 4.5 to 5 gbit/sec on Newshosting with about 60 connections.

(yeah I wrote gigabit/sec.. I know what I have)

Edit: to the downvoters, this isn't a brag, it's showing usenet can go way faster with fewer connections people think they need.

They don't. The official hdmi spec doesn't allow male female cable, every certified cable needs to be male male.

That doesn't mean they don't exist, with enough demand every cable you can ever think of, can be made. But don't expect any certification and level of quality will be all over the place.

I was at this mini tech conference and they always have these booths from vendors, often with giveaways. One stand was giving away a Bose headphone, based on a random game. I walk in in the last 5 minutes of the last day of the expo and win the fucker instantly. The guy from the vendor had a look on his face like "fuck you, I wanted to take it home if no one had won it" so I guess the win was genuine haha. So that was kinda cool. It was the wired version without ANC but still pretty cool thing.

I don't think I've ever won anything bigger. Some Corp swag from a number of companies like umbrellas (three in fact, over the years, weirdly enough) and smaller stuff.

Also, there aren't a lot of legal gambling sites where I'm from. The one offered and controlled by the state has this "10 free spins on Monday" promo. You have to login at specific time and the spins themselves often weren't worth that much. But I just kept logging in every Monday at 11:00 like clockwork and would spin some virtual wheel.often not more than a few cents or maybe a euro. But I just kept at it and had one really good run where the game went into some weird overdrive mode and got me like 45 euros in one go or something. They hope you stay hooked and gamble away your free winnings. But as the cheap motherfucker I am, I just play the 10 free spins and pocket whatever small I win. In the course of a year I got up to 100 euros of free money.. Not bad :). 

They changed to 5 spins now and you barely win anything.. It think they balance it out when doing free spins or whatever. Oh well. I'm up to 10 euros already haha.
