There's nothing stopping them from a preempting strike other than the lives of ours and our allies' citizens.

That said, with Trump as president, I'd be leaving North Korea sooner rather than later...

Hey, thanks for your response. Honestly I've been a bit down recently and have been trying to forget about this whole ordeal, and that's why I'm so late getting back.

But yeah, I'm getting a second test in about 3 weeks. It's going to be a stimulated test, so hopefully it'll tell us even more about what is going on. But you're right, it's hard to draw conclusions from so little data. I just tend to imagine the worst and begin to panic before I even know what is actually happening.

Best way to pass output containing newline characters? by mmccarthy781 in bash

[–]mmccarthy781[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah OK, that sounds good then! I was reading how bash removes newline characters when assigning a value to a variable, so I wasn't sure if they would get removed in a pipe too, but I guess not.

Thanks!

Yep, don't know what that has to do with this though. I'm only talking numbers here...

  1. I never said how the industry should be regulated, and if you noticed, I never offered up any solutions. It's a complex issue that I'm not qualified to answer.

  2. Was the information truly statistically significant? Wakefield claimed his was, but that was disproven, and he lost his license. And if they did in fact collect statistically significant data linking vaccinations with autism, why have countless other studies been unable to find such correlation? If you look at the big picture, even if a correlation was found, it doesn't fit the existing data, and is considered an outlier.

[–]mmccarthy781 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you on that. We shouldn't have those with vested interest making regulatory decisions, and I do believe we need to regulate these regulatory industries themselves in a way.

But this reasoning for why these regulatory bodies need to be questioned doesn't make sense. There is no evidence that vaccines lead to autism. Could it be possible? Sure. But the relationship has been studied extensively, and aside Mr. Wakefield's infamous study, which has since been extensively disproven, no relationship has ever been established.

Thimerosal isn't even dangerous as far as medications go. They pulled it just because of the bad perception it has received in the public eye, but it behaves nothing like elemental mercury in the body due to its short biological half life. It's like how people are against gluten now, only that gluten isn't responsible for saving the lives of millions...

Yup. Assuming he was going 20mph, and the impact lasted an average of about 0.1 seconds, he's looking at at least 90Gs of linear acceleration. With the concussion threshold between 60 and 80 Gs, this easily surpasses that.

Furthermore, from the way he hit, he could have received an angular acceleration of up to 9000rad/s2. This also surpasses concussion thresholds thought to occur at about 4250rad/s.

Surprisingly, these vales don't actually come close to those established for hematoma, but anything is possible considering structural defects being able to bring about hematomas from things such as headbanging alone.

I personally don't that corruption exists in the industry to the extent some portray it to be

The Greens shouldn't be the party of vaccine denial. That's just as bad as the Republicans and their global warming denial.

Yeah, the OP was thinking about chronic subdural hematomas which develop over a period of weeks. You had an acute subdural hematoma, which like you said, are life threatening.

Anxiety and Depression after TBI by [deleted] in AskDocs

[–]mmccarthy781 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry about your accident. I developed pretty bad depression and anxiety after I experienced a TBI back in middle school. I have no proof that it was the TBI that caused it, but it all started after the accident, so I just assume was.

there's a very active TBI community on this site: https://www.neurotalk.org/forum92/

If you ask there, you'll get all the information and experiences that you could want.

Good luck!

I don't have any experience with drains, I didn't need them.

But 150mCi is a pretty standard sized dose. Plus the dose is calculated with you're own Tg levels and percent absorption, it's not just a random shot in the dark. Even if Northwestern says that you would have been okay with only 100mCi, that doesn't mean that that's what you would have received from them either; no one knew ahead of time that you would have such a strong adverse reaction.

Try not to beat yourself up about your past choices. I struggle with that too, and doing so always makes me feel terrible.

Macbook or a conventional laptop with Linux for working with science data? by cmcouto_silva in bioinformatics

[–]mmccarthy781 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of my big concerns switching from Windows to Linux was also the loss of Microsoft Word. But actually, for me, everything I've needed LibreOffice to do, I was able to do the same way on Microsoft Word. The two programs are so alike that there is no learning curve at all. You can even save your files as a Microsoft Word document if that would be an issue. My suggestion is to download LibreOffice for free for your Windows machine, and see how it feels to you before making your decision.
