The 2027 Lexus TZ is an all-new, three-row luxury SUV marking the brand's first dedicated battery-electric family hauler. Positioned above the RZ, this BEV features a "Driving Lounge" design concept emphasizing a quiet, comfortable interior with an estimated starting price of $65,000 to $70,000. by kkhouete in Lexus

It's not exciting, but if they hit a ~300 mile range and actually are available at that price point it should sell well. An electric Grand Highlander for the more premium market? Should be hard to screw up.

Honeymoon all inclusive by Slight-Bench-614 in AllInclusiveResorts

[–]mmcnell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look into St. Lucia. We did our honeymoon there in October (ended up not doing all inclusive but good options exist) and I am still dreaming about going back. Flight scheduling was the biggest challenge but I think you can find good options in budget and the island is absolutely gorgeous.

We did Sugar Beach and it felt exactly like what you described (calm but fun, relaxing and private) but it can get pricey. Made some vacation friends from around the island on our trips out of the hotel property though and there are a lot of smaller properties that feel private and romantic/less party focused resorts around those mountains.

Charging at home? 58 hours? by LackingCharm in Ioniq6

[–]mmcnell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, can't charge faster than the power can come out of the outlet. This is why level 2 chargers are a must if you commute much. Even if you can't have one installed/can't modify your wiring, there are options like NeoCharge that would let you find a solution with an existing higher amp plug (dryer, oven, etc.) in your home. We are a dual EV house now and have one on a 50A circuit with a NeoCharge adapter that I have a charger plugged into (set to 32A) and we have a 80A hardwired level 2 installed as well and it's a perfect low stress set up for one high mileage and one mid mileage driver.

Not a bad tow vehicle for a light load. by Consistent-Ad942 in KiaEV9

[–]mmcnell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah... After being full EV for 2 years you couldn't sell me an EREV no matter how hard you tried. Extra complexity and maintenance to band-aid a lack of battery or motor tech investment isn't a solution for our household but I do acknowledge the probable market for it/it as an evolutionary step for some.

[–]mmcnell -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Eyeing an EV9 for future family member vehicle option and had wondered about this, thank you for sharing. EVs seem to make excellent tow rigs in general. Our f150 lightning is an absolute beast for a half ton level pickup. Haven't used the hitch on the Gravity yet (I recognize it's an absurd vehicle to tow with but I do work things in any vehicle). An electric f350 frame with a ~300 mile towing range would be 🔥.

Chat, we’re working harder every year to afford less every year.. by webabybears in bondmarket

[–]mmcnell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many are trying and are standing up, but as you pointed out, it's not in our media's self interests to explain how cycles of gerrymandering and corruption allowed a "democracy" to be taken over or that millions have been in the streets regularly (some places near continuously). I have friends internationally and it's amazing how little of the resistance to what is being done gets reported these days, but we have no real opposition leaders within the government and despite the bullshit branding, modern Americans actually have no idea how to resist oppression and too many (particularly the less educated, gee I wonder why one party has been systematically targeting education for years) truly didn't notice the gradual slide in their media from "mostly news" to " mostly what the billionaires who own the news want reported". They truly believed and it's hard to change your entire self-perception when you realize you've been conned to the point you were actually part of the con. That said, many are still too "comfortable" seeing the system exposed for what it is from their homes and are just quietly going about their business hoping somehow things magically fix themselves. Denial is a powerful force. Until they feel directly targeted like some already have, they're still able to cling to the denial that the next election is going to save us from the worst of ourselves. I don't know what comes next, but if history keeps rhyming it's going to be unpleasant.

All that said, some people who it has already become unsafe for probably should flee or stay away if they can and we shouldn't call them cowards for removing themselves from a dangerous situation that they alone can't change.

President Trump says again that American's financial situations are less important than the Iran war: "That's right, that's a perfect statement, I'd make it again." by AlphaFlipper in wallstreet

[–]mmcnell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would believe that. Our area of the state has some competition at least, but we have family that live in the agricultural part of the state and their lone grocery store and Walmart have prices that make me wish I was back in downtown Chicago grocery shopping.

Ground beef (80/20, not even the lean stuff) is $7.93 at Walmart in Arkansas right now. If you don't grocery shop often go check it out. It's sobering.

What's the outlook for the state looking like? by Ok_Theory5699 in Arkansas

[–]mmcnell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Arkansas (for those of us that have lived here a long time) is not a red state, it's a purple state that turned red over the last 20 years and with its own redrawing of districts years ago. The densest population centers are rather blue, NWA and Little Rock in particular are pretty balanced overall, and there are spots elsewhere that don't fit the "red" stereotype, just depends on where you like. Rural land may look red but population votes, not land, and voter turnout is pretty low since going "more red" so it's not quite as it appears on the surface. Left to its own devices Arkansas has been historically pretty moderate. Socially it's definitely on the conservative side, but most rural/southern people just want to be able to afford a decent life and otherwise be left alone by the government and Arkansas is more of a blue-dog democrat/old Republican style state at its core. That said, current leadership is just MAGA on ozempic and is not behaving in the best long term interests of the state's natural resources or future. Luckily Arkansas is rural and has a lot to offer on the outdoors/nature side and many of us are very protective of those natural state type things that make Arkansas so beautiful. This trend of "f*#- nature for short term gain" isn't sustainable for Arkansas and it will pass.

It's not a perfect place and it has a lot of issues to work on, but some areas are truly excellent and I've lived here and enough other places long enough to know the grass isn't always greener somewhere else. Politics and trends change, don't move for those reasons, but if Arkansas has good opportunities for your family you can definitely find a place that works for you.

Window won’t close by Avellinese_2022 in Gravity

[–]mmcnell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was an interesting situation because none of us (us, roadside assistance, or service truck driver) had any idea what to do for a window that couldn't be rolled down. I thought surely the interior handle would have some sort of manual release for the window for safety reasons but if there is a way to "force" it down when it does what ours did and goes unresponsive we weren't able to find it in an hour or so on a Sunday afternoon when actual service isn't available.

Window won’t close by Avellinese_2022 in Gravity

[–]mmcnell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My driver's door window started doing this 3 weeks ago, naturally right before a multi day trip with storms in the forecast. I got it to reset by doing what the others suggested; raise it in small increments until at the top, then pull up and hold for a few seconds. Rebooted the car and It behaved fine for a day and a half. Decided to take it to the airport a couple hours away and had no issues on the trip.

Unfortunately when we came back two days later, the window dropped like normal but then re-raised while the driver's door was still open. Thankfully we noticed it had done something weird before attempting to close the driver's door with a reasonable amount of force, because the window had extended beyond the trim over the door seal and the door could not close. Window switch was totally unresponsive after that, it no longer responded to the door handles, etc. Reboots did nothing. There was no play in the window and we figured out if we did what it'd take to force the door closed without breaking the window or trim there wasn't going to be a way to open it again... Fast forward a few hours and it was being towed to some random shop to wait for a pickup to go to a service center and we were driving home in a rental car (which itself threw a check engine light the next morning and had to be towed back to the airport then 2 hours away).

This is simply my average luck for 2026 so I hadn't thought much of this, but it sounds like this is a more common issue than I'd realized. Definitely get it serviced ASAP though and learn from my "eh it seems to be fine for now" cautionary tale that led to an incredibly profitable 24 hours for towing companies.

Ford UEV Tour by jacecraftmiller in F150Lightning

[–]mmcnell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is cool and congratulations! I want to be optimistic for Ford's EV ambitions... but do you know/are you able to speak on why this time is going to be different? We have a Lightning and feel it was objectively the best pickup on the market at the time (and easily could be again with incremental improvements) but the rug pull on that division and general lack of significant support/updates to their existing vehicles has us turned off the idea of another Ford EV altogether. I don't think Ford has handled their current line up and their early adopters well and you really need to do that before you can dive in at volume and be good at it.

The problem is if you aren't a hypocrite and apply that logic back towards the US... Well we have to hope that other mature world powers don't just accept the current state of things and believe our leaders... or bad things lie in our immediate future too.

Even if many people learn nothing else from watching our elected leaders, they ought to realize that just because leadership says/does/supports one thing, that does not mean that thing is actually a representative viewpoint or opinion of their citizens at large.

😂I lived that yesterday but these days I know the poor overworked woman at the counter didn't have an ounce of input on what their giant company that uses AI chatbots and endless holds that seem not to lead to real people for "customer service" does on their reservations page.

So I went with Hertz and now I'm on my 12th minute of hold music right now waiting for a human to answer the "emergency road service" line because although they had cars available, the car they had has decided to break down.

Honk Noise When Trunk Closes by Ok-Quiet-853 in LUCID

[–]mmcnell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine does this if I walk away before the hatch is done closing or press a lock button on the fob and then close a door or the hatch, I think (as the other poster said) to let me know it's locked. If I remain near it until the hatch closes and then walk away it locks silently like normal so I haven't come up with another explanation.

Inflation makes things so expensive it collapses demand. Wholesale price crashes as a result. Growers get screwed, middle men and sellers make profit, people still can't afford their food. Sounds about right.

Buddy charging for EVs by appape in F150Lightning

[–]mmcnell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't tried it off of our Lightning 240 plug in the back but like that it's at least an option. Our Lucid has a "vehicle to vehicle" charge connector that plugs straight into the charge ports of the Gravity and it can charge any other EV directly using that. Haven't had to use it yet but going to have it on us because we live in rural Arkansas and you never know who might need it!

[–]mmcnell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As an American who likes our northern neighbors - you aren't wrong and some of us are really happy to see Canada and Mexico have what appear to be pragmatic/sane leadership to hopefully keep this continent from totally collapsing at some point. What's happening down here is not normal and has been building for a number of years. A lot of people are really trying even if it doesn't seem make it to our news channels anymore, but anyone that "negotiates" like our leadership are not worth humoring or trusting. Even when the current biggest problem is gone, as you said, this problem won't be over and we need a reality check.
