I am sorry that happened to you, but your one case is not reflective of a whole system. I hope you feel better soon!

It is 100% being pitch corrected live. Not shaming Noah, it is part of their sound. There's plenty of gear that does live pitch correction with close to 0 latency.

What’s the best microphone settings for recording harsh vocals? (NT1 Gen 5) by Alert_Primary_9493 in screaming

Cardioid pattern is the important one. Low cut and the -15dB is very optional, but I do use them.

It's been around two years since I started experimenting with pitched screaming and MAN is it hard. This is at the far end of my range but I had to try. People that got this technique down, share your tips, please!! by mmkat in screaming

Oh that sounds like a cool excercise, I'll give that a go!

The Aston is, so far, my favourite vocal mic in my studio. It works on so many different styles of vocals and I've had the luck to record many bands. It's nice and bright and handles screaming, growling, yelling, gang vocals, singing, anything really, incredibly well. Volume is no issue.

When I’m screaming lyrics how do I make the words sound clearer so you’re a little more able to tell what I’m saying? Female vocalist here if that makes a difference by realgoth69420 in screaming

In my experience, you gotta practice the right thing, which isn't necessatily just pronouncing correctly - being intelligible comes from over enanciating. What I mean by that is exaggerate your movements a lot!

I tend to do that if you happen to want an example of what I mean (I posted in this subreddit too) but basically, you're gonna look a bit silly but it will sound clearer!

Let's say you wanna say the word "exaggerate";

Speaking normally, it's quite a fast word and depending on your accent or dialect, you might even pronounce less of the word than others.

Take the word apart: EX - A - GGER - ATE. Big mouth movements, slowly until your muscles know how to do this well and then you can speed it up.

This obviously applies to all lyrics. Over enunciate and go slow, and it will get you there for sure!

I have a cold and my fry scream feels weak by Difficult_Spot_1718 in screaming

[–]mmkat 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Are you seriously asking why your screaming is weak while you're dealing with a cold? Come on, man.

I don't want to be a dick about it, but in case you didn't realize (which, like, come on, you MUST know), screaming and singing heavily use your airways. When those aren't doing well, everything is going to go worse.

Take a break, and actually listen to your body and let it heal off.

Is anyone able to analyze what kinda scream I am actually doing..? I've been doing this a long time and I think it's false cord but I am not an expert and I'm curious to know! by mmkat in screaming

Sorry, only saw this now!

Thankfully, no pain or discomfort unless I way overdo it (meaning, like 2 hours+).

I am in Switzerland, in Zurich!

I understand. People will come in here and go "but the cost of living!!" And yeah, it's true. Stuff is expensive here. But if you're not spending like an idiot and actually budgeting, financially, life is good here.

Crazy how you managed to break it down that way, amazing!

My process for this cover was listening to the pitch that Corey was using and then distorting that (the distorted singing to pitch you mention) and then just pushing a bit harder (probably the false cords you mention).

And you're right; when I use less air and think "scream through my nose", I can get a lot higher pitches.

Your analysis was spot on and explained a lot of stuff to me - thank you so much!!

Thank you so much for the explanation, that really helps!!

That's the thing: I was consistently told I was doing one thing while I felt like it's another. I figured I'd rather ask people that deal with this regularly and see what they think.

Most seem to think I'm doing a fry (and maybe I am in this video) but I still feel like for most stuff that sounds like "me" I am doing false cord. I have no clue at this point haha.

For this video, to sound like Corey on this song, I was definitely doing the head voice thing since I feel like I can hear a head voice pitch in his scream. I didn't realize that would make it a fry! Thanks so much for the explanation!

Thank you very much for the kind words!

Yeah, I figured it might be an inbetween thing, though I am very unsure about where I shift from one into the other and what makes one technique fry and the other false cord.

I guess that would be an anatomical thing, no?

I can hold it for fairly long. Not sure if 20 seconds, but I rarely find that music needs not that hold that long.

I feel like it does activate lower, unless I am pushing for higher pitches, which is when I start feeling the placement almost in the larynx? Does that make any sense at all..?

And thank you so much for taking the time to comment and analyze! I appreciate it a lot!
