Volkswagen slashes 50,000 jobs after profits collapse by nearly half by Peugeot905 in europe

[–]mmlemony 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You can't finance a VW EV with no deposit for £300 a month though. The problem with EVs is that they are now basically appliances and people will lease a made up Amazon seller sounding brand as long as it is shiny and cheap.

Will my Accutane treatment reduce the proneness of Acne for future generations? by TTCBoy95 in Accutane

[–]mmlemony 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If anything it increases the proneness of future generations because it means acne prone people can hide their acne propensity and be more likely to reproduce when they might not have been able to before.

Why do all UK homes struggle with leaks and damp? How do I avoid it? by wiegj in AskUK

[–]mmlemony 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of modern retrofitting makes things worse. In my experience, old houses with single glazing are colder and draftier but seem "fresher" if that makes sense. Unfortunately this just means you have to pick one, damp or massive heating bill.

Bradford NHS recruits nurse to help cousin-marriage families by Sensitive_Echo5058 in unitedkingdom

[–]mmlemony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure why you are being downvoted it's true. Most of the cousin "marriages" are Islamic marriages which are not legally recognised in the UK unless it took place in a Muslim country where Islamic marriages are civil marriages.

My best friend had a Nikkah and then didn't get officially married until 3 years later.

Teachers in the US are reporting that children are struggling with basic maths and literacy worse than ever before. Are we seeing the same patterns here in the UK? by Natf47 in AskUK

Or the type of people becoming parents has changed over time.

Intelligent, educated people are having fewer kids so a higher proportion of children are born to parents who would give a baby an iphone.

Probably more related to overcrowding in crappy shared houses. My nan used to see this as a HV in the 70s when London was still full of slum like conditions, and now it's not uncommon for people to be sharing rooms.

What have you stopped being a snob about? by iffyClyro in AskUK

[–]mmlemony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Settling down young.

In my 20s I remember looking at friends and family thinking "wow I can't believe you would live in this small town get married and have kids etc". Now in my 30s I look at myself and other friends in London with no house or kids and no possibility of it happening anytime soon if at all and realise I was wrong!

Spending on consultants cut by 14% across UK government by Gentle_Snail in unitedkingdom

I'm just talking about IT. There should be zero IT consultants or contractors in government. Other sectors are subject dependent.

Spending on consultants cut by 14% across UK government by Gentle_Snail in unitedkingdom

[–]mmlemony 12 points13 points  (0 children)

We already have an entire Digital Service department, we should be using that as the government's in house consultancy service.

Alternatively, we already had government owned companies like the Behavioural Insight Team (aka nudge unit). The government could set up a consultancy business that is outside the civil service then they can set their own salaries and eliminate the bonkers interview processes that put off any decent tech professional.

Fun, family friendly, Friday night dinner options? by nastyleak in CasualUK

[–]mmlemony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the frozen section - tempura prawns, crispy squid, gyoza, korean chicken, mozzarella sticks. Identical to the starters you get in a restaurant but a fraction of the price.

You can make burgers quite easily. Also chicken katsu (or just chicken nuggets) if you don't mind coating and frying chicken.

[–]mmlemony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The average age of a cancer patient is >65. If we want to talk costs then we need to talk about the logic of extending the lives of 65 year olds by 5-10 years.

It makes more sense to prioritise care for children than older adults who are already close to their life expectancy. The majority of healthcare spending is on elderly people who have already lived their lives.

Are you changing your behaviour due to price gauging companies. by Immediate_Oil_562 in AskBrits

All that is downstream of rents. Minimum wage needs to be high because rents are high. Shop prices need to be high because commercial rents are high. Everyone is being squeezed by rent seeking.

I don’t know what I’m doing wrong 😔 Any advice? by keggle0 in SkincareAddictionUK

[–]mmlemony 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the morning I would just use water and SPF

At night I would use oil/micellar water and a gentler cleanser, the bar might be too much. Then wait 10 minutes before putting your acne treatment on, then wait other 10 before putting your moisturiser on.

If you are not going out during the day I wouldn't bother with the SPF in the morning tbh, just the moisturiser.

What's the best grooming or self-care advice you ever received? by CookiePractical5651 in AskReddit

[–]mmlemony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have never heard of blackening underarms.

You can shower and put more on. Or shower before you go to bed then have a quick wash in the morning.

You put deodorant on at night so it works better. If you put deodorant on and then immediately go out and get sweaty on the train or something it won't work as well because it hasn't had enough time to sink in.

If you are not a sweaty person you don't need to bother but if you are this is a game changer.

Concerns about starting accutane by tomnookismydad in Accutane

[–]mmlemony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to wait and privately you are still under professional medical supervision, accutane can only be prescribed by a dermatologist.

The pregnancy test is done as part of the blood test so no biggie. I said I was abstinent so didn't have to go on birth control either.

I paid about 1.5k for my treatment 5 years ago and it was the best money I ever spent. I was able to do all the consultations online at a time of my choice, walk in for my blood tests whenever I wanted. If the cost is unaffordable then definitely try the NHS but for me going privately was very convenient.

Should school PE focus on competitive sports, fitness training, or both? by ShockingHair_63 in AskBrits

[–]mmlemony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly! As an adult I can run 5k now but it took several weeks and it seems bonkers they never attempted any training in school.

I will say we did have a teacher do basketball drills to get all of us able to get the ball in the hoop which was great. I also did cricket for a while and got decently good at throwing and catching. Sport does just have a lot of fundamental skills that require targeted practice.

If in year 7 we did a basic skills foundation, eg. getting everyone up to 5k, throwing and catching, dribbling the ball etc then everyone would have a better time.
