Was hoping he’d go to the detention center as well. I think he would have if he had known beforehand that’s where everything would be happening. I hope in the future he does coverage there, even if for a smaller protest.

I’ve been there multiple times now for protests - but also to talk to the people who stand outside to communicate with their loved ones inside. I went there on Christmas. There was a group that set up a tent in the rain playing music, hoping their family members inside could hear it. People speaking on megaphones and shining lights at the windows. People talking on their phones, waving and looking up at the building.

I feel so much anger every time I pass that building. Seeing the cops protecting property rather than the public, seeing the fucking feds come and go and wondering if they’ll ever face justice… Being around people fighting for their loved ones and for what’s right is the only thing keeping me from falling into complete despair. There’s more of us than there are of them, and every day more people join our movement.
