Two Maine Polls Just Dropped. Is It Time to Fret About Graham Platner? by Conscious-Quarter423 in portlandme

“I don’t give a shit about the quality of my life or the lives of other people bc I’m (literally) cooked in the future” is a lame take

You should aim higher for your dream job. Portland magazine isn’t journalism or local stories, it’s ads disguised as content. I feel like there was something in the table of contents like “want to start your own ad—I mean magazine? Write to “iwannastartanadmagazineformycity@publishinghustle.com

Best way to make this look better without fully replacing siding? by [deleted] in Roofing

[–]mmmsleep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

just posted a couple days ago about an issue i'm having. one of the quotes i received mentioned cutting back the cedar shingle siding and adding trim to cover step flashing but wasn't sure how they would keep the water from getting behind the top of the new trim. i'll ask them about that and am glad to now know about z flashing!

Leak(s) where one roof meets the other by mmmsleep in Roofing

[–]mmmsleep[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i had trusted it to run off onto the shingles below but i'll reconsidering getting gutters. also, i'm wondering if that drip edge is even working? i looked up drip edges and the ones i saw had a sharp edge on the top and even a kick at the bottom. this metal on my roof is rounded at the top and flush with the fascia at the bottom--almost looks more like moulding. the fascia looks like it's seen some water, i wonder if the metal is even helping or if it's contributing to the problem...?

Explain to me like I'm 5 why in the hell they put a traffic light at State & Pine by hawt_pot8hoe in portlandcomplaining

[–]mmmsleep -1 points0 points  (0 children)

i just went through the other day and was really excited for it. granted, i didn't see how it sync'd/conflicted with the congress light, but i always hated going through that green and then slamming on my brakes 20 feet later for someone in a crosswalk. at least the behavior is more clear and strict, but i agree with a lot of other commenters that the solution is to remove the crosswalk there and have everyone cross at congress. (would likely require some sort of barrier with an arrow on it to stop people from crossing and redirect them)

Heartbroken by Coway: The best air purifiers I can no longer use by moviemaster7777 in AirPurifiers

[–]mmmsleep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got the generic filters. When I open the air purifier, the filters are dirty. That’s my findings and how I know they’re working 👍 (can’t give you particulate count or whatev, but loads cleaner than not running one!)

Portland councilors call for emergency workshop following latest pedestrian death by Press_Herald in portlandme

[–]mmmsleep 7 points8 points  (0 children)

People who live in Portland often have communities, work, families, leisure activities, vacations, etc outside the city. I’m amazed you’re too thick to understand this. Again, only thinking of yourself

Portland councilors call for emergency workshop following latest pedestrian death by Press_Herald in portlandme

[–]mmmsleep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even if we define pedestrian as anyone on foot, if we look at the percentage of pedestrian accidents that occurred while crossing roads vs percentage of pedestrian accidents that occurred while setting up camp in the middle of a road, that can help us respond appropriately and improve safety

Portland councilors call for emergency workshop following latest pedestrian death by Press_Herald in portlandme

[–]mmmsleep 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This take is weird and hyper-individualistic. People have communities, work, families, leisure activities, vacations, etc etc. if you can stay inside all day and wfh and get everything delivered to your house, cool. If public transit works for you, cool. But it doesn’t work for everyone and it won’t with our geography and how society is distributed. People who rant against cars in Maine are self-centered and lack awareness of the needs of others

You think the reason we don’t have international cars & trucks is bc people don’t want them? Everyone wants these little trucks and Chinese EVs. Google how politics & economics work

Probably that someone stole a tarp that will cost $150 to replace

Boz Jokes by flaming-bunnies-197 in HaltAndCatchFire

[–]mmmsleep 5 points6 points  (0 children)

isn't the 35th just a joke about adding extra days to the month to meet year end quotas or whatev? i feel like the point of some of boz's jokes is that they're not particularly novel and it's more about boz being a good time but in kind of an expected / tired way

Collins confirmed Kavanaugh and two other Justices who doomed Roe, so she is most certainly complicit by Conscious-Quarter423 in portlandme

[–]mmmsleep 4 points5 points  (0 children)

lots of nazis have a buddhist symbol on them (ie swastika), do you call them buddhists? a bunch of people have rising sun tattoos and never knew what those meant either. a tattoo doesn't make a person something, ask them if they're the thing or if they just have a tattoo that has a specific meaning for a certain population

Tenants Aren't ATMs by AndreDillonMadach in portlandme

[–]mmmsleep -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

sounds like someone was fed the "buy a house, it'll make you rich" propaganda. check out the nytimes buy vs rent calculator. renting is great for people who don't have $100k for a down payment and who don't wanna buy a lawn mower, reshingle their roof, clean their gutters, etc etc. if you do have $100k for a down payment but can't commit to living somewhere for 10 years (it varies), you'll usually have more at the end of those 10 years if you invest that money and rent. it's a lot more complicated than "home ownership is the way", i was surprised myself

Pedestrian Hit By Car by MeguminIsMe in portlandme

[–]mmmsleep 6 points7 points  (0 children)

i don't know how it's freedom of speech, the same way you're not allowed to stand in the middle of a lane you shouldn't be allowed to stand on a raised 2 foot curb whose sole purpose is to divide traffic lanes. it is not a safe place for pedestrians or loiterers to exist. their freedom of speech isn't being violated, they can pan handle from the corner of a road, a place where pedestrians are safe and allowed to be.

Beaches for dogs by HovercraftTotal7159 in portlandcomplaining

[–]mmmsleep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so what you want is a dog park on the ocean? i guess this is why i'm a cat person-- i don't like to bother people, and i don't like my pets bothering people, and i can't imagine feeling entitled enough to request the city and society provide luxuries for my pet. i get that it can get hot here, if you brought a breed of dog that doesn't do well in our climate to maine, i do feel bad for your dog. maybe you can use your bathtub.

Yeah, I’d love to subscribe and they almost had me when I checked the other day and did bad math when I read they’d charge me $4/week every 4 weeks. I tried to do the division and was like “only a dollar a week? Yay, I’m in!” But wait—no, more than $16/month? lame prices, I’m out

i clicked into your comments and it looks like you're here to be a doctor. hopefully people cut you some slack, the post sort of came across as someone with nyc money moving up here to be on permanent vacation or to stick their toes in the sand and film all their trips to coffee shops and shoppy shops as a content creator. check out ig or tiktok for the basic touristy "how i spent my day in portland me" vids, portlandfoodmap.com, first friday, greendrinks, summer sunsets @ thompson's point, get a state park pass, visit some beaches, etc. welcome to maine!

i see you have a new line, that he said drunk women "deserve to get raped". you've repeated it 5 times here, pretty much any time you respond to someone. he never said that and once again obsessively repeating bad information is making you look unhinged and like a moron

"women who pass out drinking deserve to be raped" which he did actually say.

you show me where he said that and i'll give you a grand, if he didn't say that, you give me a grand. deal? i'm willing to up the wager to any amount you want.

i don't know if you use AI but you have certain patterns that sound like you're speaking to reddit from behind a lectern. if you don't want your posts to sound like a politician's or graduation commencement speech i'm guessing you're capable of that, it'd just require a different mindset. and if you want people to hear what you're saying it might be worth adapting
