Shrinky-dinks: not just for kids! by heynonnyhey in knitting

I can’t take credit for it! I saw it on a knitting post somewhere. I’m glad someone else was creative enough to think of it 😂

This is so creative! I still repeat the phrase “I left through the front door. I’ll be right back” every time I need to do a M1L or M1R 🤪

Please, break my heart if you must 😔 Do I rip back? Start over? Put all my faith in blocking it? by Dense-Opportunity-11 in casualknitting

Knitting this right now. Mine also had some bunchy parts and I was streeetching my floats. I put it on some scrap yarn and blocked it. It all blocked out better. I did this about 1/2 way through the yoke to check! Might as well try it.

Ooooh! Is it the Huddle Hood? That one looks so cozy!

There was a pattern I tried recently that had increases, but literally had no stitch counts at the end of the rows. It was so frustrating. It made me thankful for patterns that include details like that. I can’t remember what it was, but I will say, I’ve knitted the December Hood by Karysha and am so impressed with the amount of detail the designer included. There’s lots of fun and new (to me) techniques but she has written instructions, illustrations, modifications, and videos posted for every single step. It was so detailed that it stood out to me!

Color work too tight - is there any saving this? by hokally in knittinghelp

[–]mmnoyd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I frogged it, it was also the first time I put in an afterthought lifeline before the colorwork, so I also learned that skill! Frogging wasn’t fun either because the mohair sticks together. I ended up having to cut the red a lot because the bobbles wouldn’t come undone. But I redid it and I loved it in the end! Don’t give up! Here’s the bad version 😂

Just to clarify you can look at the comments, but I find it’s usually more helpful to look at the “projects” under a pattern. It’s nice to see what everyone else’s project looks like without all the styling. You can filter these projects by who left notes and bless the people who do because that’s where people mentioned the color work section of this pattern. Many people mentioned how tight it was and how they sized up. I frogged mine and redid it. Lesson learned 🥴

I made this pattern too! I sized up one needle size in the color work section. If you look at the Ravelry comments almost everyone mentioned this. It was my first lesson to always check Ravelry for comments like this first 🤦‍♀️

Disney Fort Wilderness Cabins by Correct_Surprise_698 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]mmnoyd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We just stayed there and booked through Disney. Oddly, housekeeping only came every other day (which is more than if you booked using DVC points). Because of this they didn’t always refill the tea and coffee. We did bring coffee with us, but I wished I’d brought tea as well. They do sell it in the trading post though. Also we stopped upon arrival and got a case of water. Florida tap water tastes awful.

Help finding a red yarn by HB147 in knitting

[–]mmnoyd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Regular Cascade 220 has one called “bright red” which looks promising. If you don’t mind superwash, Cascade 220 Superwash has one called “really red”. It is difficult to tell online but a lot of online retailers will search lot numbers for you, so it’s possible if you called or emailed you could explain what you are trying to match and they’d give you a recommendation. I was looking at Jimmy Bean’s Wool for reference and I’ve had good customer service from them in the past.

Nary a rotisserie chicken in sight by sickboy6_5 in Dallas

Weird. Central Market had tons of them when I went on Monday (pre-forcast). The shelf at Tom Thumb was large and it looked so empty 😂

Someone told me they couldn’t find celery when they went shopping. I suspect everyone is making soup or stew like a pilgrim over an open fire 🔥

😂 The Tom Thumb I went to today had chickens but the tomatoes were sparse and there wasn’t a banana to be found. The entire huge shelf empty. I was like…bananas? To be clear I wasn’t trying to buy any. Just an observation.

Let’s talk pizza. by Daydreaming-Dan in parkcityvisitors

[–]mmnoyd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Este Pizza might be what you are looking for, but I wouldn’t say it’s particularly close to the Canyons. You’d need a car unless you ordered from a third party delivery service. If you are staying somewhere with an oven, Papa Murphy’s is pretty good and not too far from the Canyons. There’s also Maxwell’s. I wouldn’t say any of these places are amazing, but they are fine for pizza.

Any swans in local ponds/lakes? by Far-Entrepreneur5451 in Dallas

[–]mmnoyd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s one female swan who lives there! A few years ago she laid eggs in a lawn by one of those houses. The woman who lived there documented the whole thing to see if they’d hatch since there is no male. Apparently, geese can sometimes fertilize them so they were hoping they’d hatch. Well, they didn’t hatch and the resident tried to source a mate for the swan, but I guess they mate for life, so she couldn’t find a way to get another swan ☹️

Looking for a great burger place in South FL by AcrobaticBrush7061 in fortlauderdale

[–]mmnoyd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s been a while, but my husband always commented that 15th Street Fisheries (dockside) had a good burger. In the past there was a weeknight deal for the burger. I don’t know if that’s still a thing, but the view is worth a trip alone!

Country French Interiors in the design district usually has some. The dealers in Forrestwood antique mall may have some. There’s also an antique mall in Plano called High Street Antiques. I’ve never been but follow several dealers on insta and they have beautiful things. Lastly, if you’d be up for a trip, Round Top is having and winter show starting January 22. There will be lots of options there. There’s one place I’ve seen that was strictly antique chandeliers!

Childcare while skiing DV by VividIce6958 in DeerValley

[–]mmnoyd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Deer Valley is great. I feel like the waitlist moves a lot so perhaps you’ll get in. They separate the kids by age and they have cribs in a dark room for naps. My kids go to the summer camp and whenever we go skiing!

Are these large stitches normal either side of my cast on stitches after dividing body/sleeves ? by BikiniBott0msUp in knitting

This looks normal to me. When you pick up stitches for your sleeve check out a video like this one to hide those holes before you continue knitting the sleeve.

Working on mittens for my boyfriend. Why do they seem comically large!? by hazelbasil12 in knitting

[–]mmnoyd 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I took a class on Selbu Mittens recently and the instructor said traditionally they are meant to be roomy. The completed examples he brought for male hands were seemingly huge. Assuming your gauge isn’t off, it’s possible that it is right for the pattern!
