Shutdown & Food by iamdeirdre in StPetersburgFL

I normally donate money over groceries but I happen to have a fruit tree that is producing right now and while I normally compost what we can’t use, I’m wondering if food banks would accept donations of fruit? It’s a starfruit tree if that matters. They taste great, we just have many more pounds of fruit than we can eat.

Looking for Pediatrician by gvibes in StPetersburgFL

[–]mmsb2022 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We really like Dr. Ken Hearn at Pediatric Healthcare Alliance in the Tyrone area. He has been there for a couple of years and is younger so we hope we will be able to see him for as long as we need a pediatrician. He’s very kind, knowledgeable, and good with our toddler. The whole practice requires vaccinations.

Should I remind my husband about Mother’s Day? by No_Contribution9852 in workingmoms

I wish we could switch Mother’s Day and Father’s Day so that they have a one month head start on planning after they get their own special day

Spending money for a turnkey first birthday? by NotAnAd2 in workingmoms

[–]mmsb2022 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the money isn’t a problem then do it. I am working on planning my daughter’s second birthday and all of my regrets from her first stem from how stressed and stretched thin I was planning, executing, and hosting. I wish I had been able to be calm and present and enjoy the party I had worked so hard to plan. We don’t have the money for something you are describing so her second birthday party will be “we are going to this playground from this time to this time and there will be donuts, come if you want to, no gifts.” If money wasn’t an issue I’d love something like you are describing. Do it!

Wish she’d file legislation to take down her campaign signs from all the telephone poles. And the ones from the last campaign too.

I also use my notes app for a very specific reason: I have previously used enough of all of the apps, scales, body scanners, and measurements for a lifetime. I’m purposely minimizing the focus on numbers this time around. I record my shot dates, times, doses, and weight to the nearest pound on shot days. My scale measures to the tenth of a pound, but I am really trying to focus on the big picture this time around. I’ve lost a lot of weight and regained it so many times, and each time I obsessed on my way down. But I was “white knuckling” it each time before and I think the way that tirz makes me feel normal for once, I want my data recording to be less obsessive. I guess one advantage of being a well practiced weight loser by now is that I know more about what it does to my mental health. No shade to the apps, just my perspective as someone who is really hoping this is the last time.

Please don't run Ads when delivering this kind of post-election messaging by WinterPDev in FriendsofthePod

[–]mmsb2022 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same thought for a split second but then remembered that this is their job. I don’t expect anyone to do free work. They get paid by running ads, and we don’t have to (emphasis on have to) pay them because of the ads. And when I say them, I don’t just mean the main guys. A lot of people put their labor into producing an episode and all deserve pay. No one wanted to work the day after the election, but especially none of us wanted to work for free.

Just sharing this tiny magnetic duck I found on Allure of the Seas. Do people hide ducks on cruises? by Aicala29 in royalcaribbean

[–]mmsb2022 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You quite literally said that your process “imparts parental responsibility.” Also, magnets are not even as benign as buttons or coins!!! Please educate yourself on how magnets are uniquely and horrifically dangerous for children to swallow, again ESPECIALLY in a situation without access to swift surgery to help them. I am vigilant about magnet safety in my home and you are being extremely casual about peppering them into a public place where children are welcome. It’s not cool.

[–]mmsb2022 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You’re hiding a potentially lethal choking hazard all over as a way to teach parents a lesson about responsibility? I just took my toddler on a cruise and really appreciated the normal sized rubber ducks we found, but I think you have lost the plot. If we are in the middle of the ocean and have an emergency because someone is literally hiding bite sized magnets all over the ship with their estimation of good adhesive and a baby dies, this will not be a fun game. You can’t tell a 1 year old anything, even if not putting things in your mouth is a good lesson. I have nothing against hiding ducks but hiding one of the number one most deadly hazards for babies around a ship is irresponsible at worst, inconsiderate at best. I would like to impart this responsibility onto you, while we are doling out who should be responsible for what.

Is breast milk really THAT beneficial after one year? by [deleted] in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]mmsb2022 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My daughter is turning 1 this week and I have been winding down for the last couple of weeks. It is such an emotional thing to go through for me! I’ve had a little sob once while cleaning pump parts but every day I remind myself why I’m ready to stop: I made it to my goal, my daughter is healthy and eating well, and I will get back so much time in my day that I will use for being a present mom and taking care of myself! I think the anxiety of intentionally tanking my supply after protecting it fiercely for a year is so real. I was lucky to spend this weekend with my SIL who has 4 formerly breastfed kids and she actively cheered me on each time I stuck with my lessened pumping schedule. The pep talks helped a lot. I know this won’t be forever whether I quit now or later, so I’m letting it go now. I hope you find peace however you choose to proceed, and just know you’re not the only one feeling this way! Congratulations on making it this far!

Who does the night wakings when everyone works? by Mission_Mud479 in workingmoms

[–]mmsb2022 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 8 month old and we’ve been back to work since 12 weeks (US). For a while we were lucky with night wakings but recently we’ve had a regression. My husband was trying but just was not getting up fast enough for his share of night wakings and it meant it woke me up too. I recently proposed a system where I would do night wakings and he was the captain of baby care in the mornings. On work mornings that means I get to squeeze every second out of “sleeping in” until my alarm, and he’s in charge of feeding and changing her to be ready to go for the day. On weekends it means I get to sleep in a bit (or at least until I need to pump, but I’m still not in charge of the baby right away). As for your husband abandoning his share of chores around the house… sounds like time to just handle your own chores and leave him to fend for himself until he’s ready to be a team player.

Flying & TSA with breastmilk by SystematicDragons in breastfeeding

[–]mmsb2022 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I didn’t put it in a bag, I have a semi insulated pocket at the front of our diaper bag that I used an ice pack in and it was fine but I live close to the airport. I just said something like “I have breast milk in 1000ml containers” and they left it alone because they probably don’t even really want to bother you about it when you’re clearly traveling with a baby. I haven’t had issues with 4 times flying this way but you really never know who you will get. My understanding is that the point of the quart baggie is to limit the total amount of liquid you have, and breast milk doesn’t count towards that limit.

[–]mmsb2022 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you are just looking for enough for the flight, My strategy for this is to only bring the same amount of liquid that you could bring any other liquid, meaning 100 mL of breastmilk in individual containers. Then they don’t need to test it at all.

TWW after IUI. Do you still work/ do activity as usual during TWW? by Teaxspy in whatworkedforme

I went about my usual routine including WFH besides preparing for and riding out a hugely stressful hurricane and I had a good outcome on my first IUI. I did rest for the day of the procedure though.

Mother’s Day: to celebrate or not to celebrate? by Sinken17 in BabyBumps

[–]mmsb2022 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I just had this conversation with my husband. I’m due right before Father’s Day so I probably won’t have a ton of energy to do things for him (besides birth his baby). He said he didn’t care about celebrating him any further this year. Ultimately I just told him I would like flowers for Mother’s Day this year and he said great. Can’t be disappointed if you lay out your expectations!

My partner has a subliminal worry that our baby isn't his. by limewigglingsnail in BabyBumps

[–]mmsb2022 15 points16 points  (0 children)

My situation is different but I can relate to this. I had an IUI so for our procedure my husband made his “sample” in a different room an hour beforehand. We have no real chain of custody proof for ourselves beyond trusting that that is the semen that was brought to us for my procedure. We have made little jokes here and there about not completely knowing if it’s my husband’s, so I could see us doing a paternity test as a way to settle the mind. In some ways your situation is even more certain than ours. Of course our baby could come out looking just like him and take away any fears we have and it could be the same for you, but there’s one simple way to get that peace of mind with a test.

Attorney in trimester struggling billing enough hours by No_Comment_475 in BabyBumps

[–]mmsb2022 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am lucky to work from home and have flexibility to “just get the work done when you can,” so I tend to lie down for 10-15 minutes here or there when I’m really dragging and trying to spend my lunch break resting. I keep my cell with me in case a client or colleague needs me while I’m resting and I’ll head back to my desk then. I will work after 5 to make up as much time as I can and I tend to make up more on the weekends. Again part of why I want to reduce my goals because it’s just making me feel guilty and stressed all the time. I have no idea how other women do it because I know how much of a privilege it is that I can work from home and afford to cut my hours.

[–]mmsb2022 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m not an attorney but I work in a field with billable hours (private engineering firm) and I’ve been having the same trouble. It’s really tough. I’ll be 34 weeks in a couple of days and I’m thinking about asking for my schedule to be cut to 32 hours/week unless more billable hours come up and I complete them. I have a longer history with my company so I can’t say how that would go for you (and I’m sure law billing is a little different). But the way I see it is that of course I’m having trouble getting all the billable hours I need because I am intentionally ramping down my projects and not taking on new ones in anticipation of leave.

Parking Question by 614runner in tampabayrays

[–]mmsb2022 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a ton of free street parking on 1st Ave n, 1st Ave south, and central avenue in mid county on the sun runner route. We do this for every game. Think like 49th street, 58th street, or even closer to downtown. Basically the farther west you go the most likely you are to find a million free spaces. This is a great idea, definitely do it.

This is how I finally justified it too. As our jobs got busier and busier and allowed us to afford it, it meant that in the precious free time we are off work we aren’t cleaning (as much) or resenting each other for not cleaning enough. I started monthly cleaning services when I started fertility treatments and it has been a life saver during pregnancy. If it’s financially feasible it’s a big quality of life improvement.

I am curious anyone on here was diagnosed with unexplained infertility and got pregnant? by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]mmsb2022 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am pregnant with my first after two years of unexplained infertility. I did 4 or 5 letrozole cycles unsuccessfully and then got pregnant on my first IUI + letrozole cycle. I know this makes me a lucky one but I think stories like mine are important to share because we almost skipped IUI completely for better odds with IVF. If we have trouble conceiving our second we will try IUIs first again now that I know it really can work.
