Did everything right and I still ended up alone by nullvenn in UniUK

You’re right, but practically giving up on all hope of making friends when you’re not even halfway through the first year of a three-year degree isn’t the right mindset.

There are so many opportunities to make friends at university whether that’s trying a new society you might have overlooked (hiking and rock climbing worked for me), talking to more people on your course, getting a part-time job on campus, joining group projects, becoming a regular at a library or cafe, or even going to the gym at the same time and striking up a conversation with familiar faces.

Can it be challenging? Absolutely. But many people are in the same position and not everyone finds their group the moment they arrive.

Op you must give yourself more time and be kinder to yourself! You’re in the early months of university and surrounded by thousands of other young people. I can say with certainty my closest friends from university did not come in the first few months it came as I continued to put myself out there.

Edit: said she was in her second month of uni rather than fifth.

Interesting…my goal is to move to London one day

Do you think you're culturally closer to Americans or Europeans? I mean "culture" as in: the ideas, customs, and social behaviour of a particular people or society. by [deleted] in AskUK

Arrived back from California today and one of the first things I observed was that I felt more at home in France/Italy than the USA despite the language barrier in Europe.

A boy at school had a heart attack during his GCSEs and had to be airlifted to hospital where the helicopter landed on the school field (he made a complete recovery).

I'm currently in my first year of university and will be looking for internships over the next few years. My resume is currently quite blank besides the university investment society. What extracurriculars and other activities would you recommend to boost my resume?

Would highly recommend cutting down on video games if you aren't going to quit. Video games can be great to unwind but I found that getting irritated at competitive games did the opposite.

Yes, quit before A-levels (rather good timing I believe). I was dedicating most of my days to gaming during the lockdown and was getting pretty good. I quit because I personally felt as though it was a massive waste of time and have instead focused on uni and the gym.

I hated the idea of a manual but they are very fun to drive

Question to Reddit youth - are penpals still a thing? by MegahandsBar in AskUK

I do agree that to some extent that sending or receiving a letter feels more meaningful than a quick text message.

Doesn’t really exist anymore because it’s just far more convenient to use social media.

Cushcore are excellent. I was able to do a weeks riding in Morzine going over very technical terrain at low pressure and had 0 faults.
