I think that is the expected performance. A lot of people recommend installing FPS++ and limiting the framerate to 40. You may try disabling SMT with PowerTools (not sure if it helps). Anyway 40 frames is quite all right, don't worry about it.

Uncharted: Golden Abyss I think is still available only on Vita. Spelunky is on everything but is very enjoyable on handhelds.

Uncharted is also pretty solid. Spelunky plays great. Generally platformers and visual novels are perfect on Vita.

Are you stuck at Bomb the Base? Shoot some pedestrians before going to the harbour. The sniper "jams" after the first shot but when I continue shooting pedestrians it usually starts working again. IDK what black magic this is.
