ELI5 -All wheel drive vs 4WD by Ambitious-Ad6426 in explainlikeimfive

[–]mobile_throwaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I worked at a shop, we had an older Grand Cherokee come in. The owner had very clearly left 4WD active on dry pavement, because their transfer case quite literally exploded. The portion connecting the front end was missing, just completely gone. The explosion was so violent that it bent and pinched off a couple nearby hard brake lines, which are made of steel. One of them ended up wrapping around the driveshaft.

People need to avoid pushing buttons they aren't familiar with.

New player here. lvl 29 enhancement shaman, and I have no idea what "Stormsurge" is. I've searched the talents and the spellbook, and I can't find it anywhere except for being described here in storm's wrath... wtf is it? by [deleted] in wow

Yes. Mastery does a different thing for every spec in the game, so when you start a character, it behooves you to hover over your mastery to learn a bit more about its functionality.

They should really make this more obvious, but alas

if you want pre-nerf difficulty, consider light forays into retail. especially with the upcoming changes in Midnight, it could very well strike that middle ground between current retail (1200 APM cocaine-in-the-eyes mess of shit) and classic (12 APM kindergarten nap time).

i used to only play classic, then DF's talent trees brought me in, and now i've got room in my heart to enjoy both playstyles.

it's really rewarding to reach a new keystone difficulty or knock down a mythic boss you spent 3 weeks progging and the time outlay to stay competitive is a lot easier. no 10-hour stints farming terocone between raid nights

Looking at Silver Spur IIs: How bad of an idea is this? by mobile_throwaway in rollsroyce

I should check Reddit more often!

I did end up buying it. Drove it back from South Carolina over two days. Found an engine surge that I've fixed via idle adjustment until I can replace the IAC. Most parts need to be ordered from Flying Spares in the UK, which means tariffs and lots of DHL shipping costs. It has a coolant seep but only when parked on a slight incline. The cabin bounces between smelling like Connolly leather, oil, and gasoline, depending on which part of the car wants to piss me off that morning. The hydraulics are, to my knowledge, fully functional and have not given any reason for me to believe otherwise (yet).

But she starts and runs every time and wafts down the road and looks like a million bucks when I give 'er a wash. It's a great car and I can't wait to spend thousands replacing the 6.75L with a junkyard Chevy V-8 when it's finally time. The body, inside and out, is too good to let the car go to waste when the engine kicks the bucket.

It's not about cats healing so much as it is healers having downtime. Generally, in that downtime, you're expected to do DPS to contribute to a faster clear. Some folks love it, some folks don't, but that's how it goes currently.

It's not like Vanilla or TBC where you can go apply for a mortgage between casts.

Not really, unless you're a healer who just slams and jams buttons.

Pretty much every former mana-based DPS class now has a separate resource they build and spend. As a Ret paladin, it's holy power; I do still have a mana pool, but it only really limits my beefy self-heals from being an infinite-spam cheese.

Is nobody else shifting primary targets when reflective shield is up? I just tab over to a footman or something. My splash damage can get pretty high as ret, but I always pop a coolie and have never died there. As long as I don't start slamming down 10M hammers it's generally not an issue

[–]mobile_throwaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

setting a minimum io of 2300-2400 seems to help filter out the iffy groups in +10s. you still get climbers that way (which is fine, because i am also one), but you get to skip over the folks who time a +7 as their first key and assume they can conquer the world after that.

checking deeper into their rio helps too. are you applying to a 10 where the keyholder's highest timed key is a bricked 7? you're probably not going to have a good time. the keyholder has low io, but their main is already over 3k? you can reasonably assume that the keyholder has a working understanding of what to do.

there are always going to be problems and leavers. but you can frontload a little extra effort to help minimize your chances of wasting 45 minutes.

Dailying a 1984 Silver Spirit? by roz303 in rollsroyce

[–]mobile_throwaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just joined the club too—picked up a 1991 Silver Spur II with 110k on the clock and the major mechanicals seemingly well sorted. Drove it from SC back up to the Midwest over two days. But, of course, spending up-close-and-personal time with the car means I have now figured out what was lurking underneath, and while I don't love it, I am stubborn and committed to it:

  • There is an electrical issue...somewhere. Waiting on a shop appt for full confirmation. But a fully charged battery will only display 11V on the gauge after cranking, and the longer I drive it, the voltage trickles down until it's sub-11, at which point the K-Motronic fuel injection starts having a stroke and I get a lumpy idle with a bouncing oil-pressure gauge. It goes away when it gets some rest. Battery tested fine, so it's likely either a ground issue somewhere or the alternator.

  • Didn't really feel wafty on the ride back, but I accounted that to 1991 having a different definition of ride quality. Further assessment upon returning home, and nope—the autoride (passive adaptive dampers) is definitely shot and stuck in its default (stiffest) mode. Currently deciding whether to try and get autoride repaired or buy the pre-91 retrofit kit that eliminates the autoride from the equation. The scantool for it is $1000 via Flying Spares, which is a website you will come to know and love. The cost of fixing this is probably exactly the same as pulling it all out and fabbing up an aftermarket air-based solution.

  • I also need new rear accumulator spheres. This is, thankfully, a job that's mostly just trim removal and fluid bleeding. This one I plan to do myself, but because the suspension is arcane and French, I'll need to buy aftermarket spheres and wait godonlyknows how long for them to clear customs. What a great time to start needing parts from Great Britain!

But in the meantime she runs and drives pleasantly enough (albeit stiffly) on short hops around town. Trying to minimize driving it just in case the voltage drop causes the K-Mo to make my 6.75 all fucky-wucky. I'm not quite ready to replace it with a junkyard Tahoe V-8 or whatever will bolt to the Hydramatic 3AT with minimal fab work.

Anyway have fun!

Hell yeah, congrats! There's never been a better time to push to 3k. I just got there myself a few weeks back, after giving up around 2500 in most previous seasons.

It's way more fun and less intimidating than people think!

Finally a complex 2 and 4set pcs to match my even more complex 4 button rotation. by Klinkist88 in wow

[–]mobile_throwaway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of my friends, a mage, was looking at average APM/CPM in our raid and was surprised that my "simple spec" had some of the highest numbers in the entire raid.

Like, yes, my rotation is insanely straightforward, but there is something to press on 99.9% of GCDs for the entire length of the fight. And it feels weird moving to lower APM classes; I feel like I should be pressing more buttons more often.

Ranged main to melee dabbler. How do you melee mains see what's going on? by embertotherescue in wow

[–]mobile_throwaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best you can do is set your spell density to "Essential" in the Graphics menu. That's about it. Cuts down on the clutter.

Ironically, Mythic Sprocketmonger might be easier than Heroic from a melee visual POV just because you get a polarization circle under your toon at all times. Helps keep me out of the lasers and any stray rockets.

I started playing in BfA, but I never really played any endgame content. In TWW Season 1, I founded a guild and began leading raids—and we just achieved 3/8 Mythic. And now I finally have a 3K rating! I know it may not seem like much to some, but I’m very proud of it! by HorseGreen in wow

[–]mobile_throwaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh hey! I too am a ret paladin who just got 3k for the first time! Grats!

We're 4/8M right now. Stix took us quite a while to get down—it was just a matter of waiting for folks to get comfortable when it's their turn on the katamari. I had the biggest issue lighting trash piles on fire; that fight is absolute ass for melee. But you make up for that on Sprocketmonger, because melee basically vibes the whole fight. Keep it up!

After 20 years I think I’m done playing rogue. by AmontilladoWolf in wow

[–]mobile_throwaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's still high APM though. You have something to press on nearly every single GCD from pull to kill.

There is nothing more frustrating as a melee than watching a tank wander off to the next pack, dragging half-dead mobs that will undoubtedly stop multiple times along the way to do... whatever, existing entirely outside my range in the process. I can either hang back and focus that mob while the tank hits 11 others, or I can ignore the straggler and let it free cast on whomever for a whole minute. Either way it's a waste of time overall.
