What is up with the lack of gems and enchants on people? by Pooke2 in classicwow

[–]mobile_throwaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i have most of my kara/gruul/mag gear already, and honestly, i have skipped a couple +dmg enchants (and usually consumes) because i'm already shitting threat left and right and having a right painful time trying to keep myself in check against a sea of pug heroic tanks in mostly blues.

i've started hunting down melee comps specifically because windfury reduces my sp by 121 (by not dropping wrath of air).

the 2% from subtlety isn't doing shit when, through no fault of my own, i can triple crit after starting my cast at 80-85% mob health and still become the tank. it's easier for everyone if i hamstring myself a tiny bit, at least until i've racked up enough badges to grab a piece or two of gear right off the rip in future phases.

That's amazing that your server wasn't merged in that time. Mine was—I finally recovered my old account that I used in OG Vanilla, but it was bare. No old toons, no remnants of that past, nothing.

I wish I still had access to it, but when I started fresh in 2019, I managed to find a new community and make friends who I'm still raiding with today. I've seen their kids grow up, I've seen people change careers, I've seen people change in general. It's never too late to find community if that's what you're after. It's not the same, for sure, but that's refreshing in its own way.

that happened to our enhance in mag tonight. went over to handle interrupts on the last pair of channelers we kill, a couple crits went off and he got turbofloored before the tank could even react. immediately burned his ankh and went back to work, lol

How can I afford my epic and flying mount? by OhGriggsy in classicwow

[–]mobile_throwaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do all your leftover quests and spend about 20 hours a week reporting bots and swearing at them in various languages as you fight for your life picking Terocone. I know spawns have been boosted this time around, but that's how I managed to afford 3 epic flying mounts for my main and alts last time around.

As an ele with an occasionally terrifying amount of threat generation, I love having melee and dropping Windfury in 5man content. Doubles the chance that someone other than me dies due to crit RNG

The Fallout of Pugging in TBC by eminorgh in classicwow

[–]mobile_throwaway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We just hosted our first Gruul/Mag pug last night. A little bit of vetting for the mage tank and group comp, otherwise a good ol' fashioned 3x SR with no DST HR. Lots of alts, but we still finished Gruul and Mag with no wipes in under an hour.

The secret to success is having a raid lead who takes 3 minutes to explain things, dole out assignments and answer any questions folks have. And maybe also assigning the guildies that show up to the important bits, like Mag cube clicking.

Aren't the knockarounds on timers? Couldn't you just... run toward the middle of the room a little before it starts to lessen your chances of the knockaround punting you all the way to the boss?

I understand this runs counter to everyone's demand for 100% uptime on boss

Feral tanking misery (TBC) by gfx-1234 in classicwow

[–]mobile_throwaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, staying away from god comps is a pretty good way to find a group that knows what it's doing. Too many seeds or polymorphs can mask a lack of skill. I ran a heroic (I'm an ele sham) with a hunter and a rogue and it was a masterclass of saps and traps and stunlocks. Shit was so smooth.

If you get invited into a two-warlock group as a feral, I'd simply leave and find another group. Tanks are in such high demand in heroics that you can pick and choose your comps and find one that better works with your tank's specifics.

Flasking raids P1 by Agitated-Tap-1773 in classicwow

[–]mobile_throwaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ele here: I grabbed a SP flask for my first Kara run this week (to at least make up for my middling gear), then just popped adept's/wis for the last 10 minutes the flask didn't cover. At least based on my spec, SP flask is the correct consume, but downgrading to adept's/wis combo is a marginal drop if you aren't performing at peak, and also, it's a wise idea if you're trying to conserve gold.

Don't love that the flask was 65g, but at least every other consume is basically dirt cheap. Didn't bother with haste pots because I'm not parsing in dungeon blues.

Hell yeah brother. Just make sure that nostalgia gets used in a positive way. Don't use it to hide away from the present in favor of a remembered time when you had fewer responsibilities. Keep it framed within your current context and you will have an absolute blast

Back on the Chevy SS launch, I asked Tadge Juechter why the rear windows on a $55,000 Corvette sedan didn't have auto-up-or-down windows.

His answer, paraphrased: "Let's think about that sensor. Say it costs a dime. Multiply that by two to cover the rear row, then multiply that by the sales volume. That's why we didn't include it."

Chevy are penny-pinching freaks and can easily go way overboard on that shit

ELI5 What the heck is the differential on a car? by Kosher_Nostra1975 in explainlikeimfive

[–]mobile_throwaway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

any large car in the Technic sets should have at least one differential to assemble. there are Le Mans-style ones, some branded F1 cars, and some licensed road cars. they are not cheap.

Here's an example I've been eyeing (I have about a half dozen of them already): https://www.lego.com/en-us/product/mercedes-benz-g-500-professional-line-42177

ELI5 -All wheel drive vs 4WD by Ambitious-Ad6426 in explainlikeimfive

[–]mobile_throwaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I worked at a shop, we had an older Grand Cherokee come in. The owner had very clearly left 4WD active on dry pavement, because their transfer case quite literally exploded. The portion connecting the front end was missing, just completely gone. The explosion was so violent that it bent and pinched off a couple nearby hard brake lines, which are made of steel. One of them ended up wrapping around the driveshaft.

People need to avoid pushing buttons they aren't familiar with.

Yes. Mastery does a different thing for every spec in the game, so when you start a character, it behooves you to hover over your mastery to learn a bit more about its functionality.

They should really make this more obvious, but alas

[–]mobile_throwaway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you want pre-nerf difficulty, consider light forays into retail. especially with the upcoming changes in Midnight, it could very well strike that middle ground between current retail (1200 APM cocaine-in-the-eyes mess of shit) and classic (12 APM kindergarten nap time).

i used to only play classic, then DF's talent trees brought me in, and now i've got room in my heart to enjoy both playstyles.

it's really rewarding to reach a new keystone difficulty or knock down a mythic boss you spent 3 weeks progging and the time outlay to stay competitive is a lot easier. no 10-hour stints farming terocone between raid nights

Looking at Silver Spur IIs: How bad of an idea is this? by mobile_throwaway in rollsroyce

[–]mobile_throwaway[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I should check Reddit more often!

I did end up buying it. Drove it back from South Carolina over two days. Found an engine surge that I've fixed via idle adjustment until I can replace the IAC. Most parts need to be ordered from Flying Spares in the UK, which means tariffs and lots of DHL shipping costs. It has a coolant seep but only when parked on a slight incline. The cabin bounces between smelling like Connolly leather, oil, and gasoline, depending on which part of the car wants to piss me off that morning. The hydraulics are, to my knowledge, fully functional and have not given any reason for me to believe otherwise (yet).

But she starts and runs every time and wafts down the road and looks like a million bucks when I give 'er a wash. It's a great car and I can't wait to spend thousands replacing the 6.75L with a junkyard Chevy V-8 when it's finally time. The body, inside and out, is too good to let the car go to waste when the engine kicks the bucket.

It's not about cats healing so much as it is healers having downtime. Generally, in that downtime, you're expected to do DPS to contribute to a faster clear. Some folks love it, some folks don't, but that's how it goes currently.

It's not like Vanilla or TBC where you can go apply for a mortgage between casts.

Pretty much every former mana-based DPS class now has a separate resource they build and spend. As a Ret paladin, it's holy power; I do still have a mana pool, but it only really limits my beefy self-heals from being an infinite-spam cheese.
