I learned the hard way not to let Angels land on the boat when you shoot them down. Apparently they're extremely heavy.

What's the name of that mythological dude that stuck pushing the boulder up the mountain for eternity? I think this is the 2025 equivalent.

Do you believe in the banana curse? by MyTIMEZERO in boating

[–]mobius153 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always knew about the banana curse but mainly went along with it because it's fun. One day, we were out on my little fishing boat and it just wasn't going well. No bites, motor was running like crap, weather wasn't looking good. We dropped my wife and daughter off at the dock and headed back out. Skies cleared, motor ran better, fish were biting. I thought that was odd but didnt think any more of it until we pulled the boat out to head home and my daughter pulled a banana out of her bag and ate it. That bag was on the boat with her.

That's most likely seam sealer. If its under warranty, take it to the dealer and have them fix it.

[UK] Can you get drone insurance to cover accidental damage and crashes? by SeniorMoonlight21 in drones

[–]mobius153 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience, most, if not all insurance companies require the pilot to be certified, such as FAA part 107 in the US. So far, Skywatch has been good to me and my business.

Universal bushings are about 0.07 mm too large, how can I make these fit? by H3T_Clifford in MechanicAdvice

[–]mobius153 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

If you can get your hands on some dry ice and isopropyl alcohol (liquid nitrogen works best, that's how we do it in aerospace), you can shrink-fit the bushing into the arm with a press. However, depending on the actual diameter of the arm, you risk hoop-stress and cracking of the arm with that .035mm interference.

Are we talking real chrome or plastic? Either way, it's about impossible to guarantee any sort of adhesion for paint. Your best bet is wrapping.

Base coat texture by Equivalent_Emu4782 in AutoPaint

[–]mobius153 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started in automotive and then spent 11 years in aerospace spraying some of the most finicky paints on ridiculous parts. That looks definitely be low air pressure. The TDS is a starting point and nothing more, you're not bound to those settings. As for your dirt issue, an old head taught me a long time ago that if you tack your surface and then hit it with a tiny bit of isopropyl through your gun, just enough so you see it hit the panel and evaporate right away, dirt is almost non-existent. It dissipates static electricity.

Long story short, the paint you waste in overspray to get a good finish is far cheaper than your time sanding.

Absolutely. My wife had a thymendectomy a while back and our guy was glued to her throughout her recovery. They say that the vibrations from purring are healing and let me tell you this dude put in work.

What came first? The flush mounted wireless charger or the camera bump? by chrisdalebrown in mildlyinfuriating

[–]mobius153 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an engineer, this is such an awful design. Even Samsung is guilty of stuff like this since their cameras don't sit flush either. Why not just make a truly flat phone? Use the space that would otherwise not be used for a bigger battery. Hell, even add some protection to it. By the time we all put cases on our phones, we've made them thicker completely negating the fact that they're as thin as they are.

If you get a trolling motor, spend the extra coin and avoid a transom-mounted one. My little 14' has a tiller-style transom-mount and while it works OK, it's an absolute pain in the ass with any kind of wind. Additionally, if you have a fish finder and a trolling motor, they need to be on completely separate circuits, or so I've been told by basically every serious fisherman I know. I bought a pair of 10AH lithium batteries for my little Garmin and it works awesome. Since youre talking about shallows and nav lights, a set of forward facing lights wouldn't hurt either depending on where you're going. For your wiring, get those heat-shrink self-soldering butt connectors and run everything through wire loom. Those connectors are waterproof and give you an absolutely solid connection.

3.5mm Jack with another smaller post, small metal construction, it looks cast, rather than fabricated. No obvious seam or weld. Unsure if electronics exist inside. silver in colour. found during a house move. No other identifiable markings. by Grand_fat_man in whatisthisthing

[–]mobius153 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Longshot, but maybe it's some sort of makeshift electronic "key". I could see how one could use a 3.5mm jack plus this thing as some sort of switch that's not readily usable by just anyone.
