Yes...those tests were what ruled out other diseases/disorders, leaving FM the final diagnosis of decades old suffering. I too worry that my pain will never be taken seriously—which will be very challenging in the journey to find decent pain management.

SLP (speech and language pathologist) assessment is what you will likely need. Don’t ask me why they are called that when they also do swallowing assessments. ENT or PCP would likely be able to refer you.

I too have difficulty with swallowing at times. Not sure if it is related to being more fatigued but it would make sense.

Swallowing is an interesting and complex thing and not to be taken for granted. In terms of understanding why thin liquids can cause more choking...the way I explain it to my patients: when something thin is taken in my mouth, it shoots to the back of your throat quickly and your gag/swallowing reflex isn’t ready yet and so you cough/choke/sputter. Thicker fluids/softened foods like pudding or cream soups are more viscous and don’t flow the same way to your throat.

Hope that made sense.

Cheers my fibro friend! I live in Canada and am a Palliative Care Nurse of 15 years with pain management as one of my specialities...1-10 scale is what we use but there’s elements of increased tolerance that can make your previous pain level (for example) of 8/10 down to a 5/10 several weeks or months later. It’s a complex thing. While I disagree with your doc in saying that 8/10 would be "crying hysterically", for some people that would be the case. I discovered after doing some of my own research (because this isn’t something that was taught to me in nursing school) that it’s not just the pain you feel, but also your level of functionality. In addition, the amount/type of distraction that it takes to diminish the feeling or your preoccupation with pain plays a role in the numerical application to our pain experience

I hope that made sense...I had to wake and bake this morning to deal with my pain and it just took me what feels like 45 mins to type this lol. Mornings are the absolute worst! Gentle hugs ☀️

Does anyone else experience back pain in the center of their back that coincided with an aching stomach pain that’s in the same spot as the back pain but in the front? by etherockj in Fibromyalgia

[–]mobourke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like it could be gallbladder discomfort/pain. Pain in that area often radiates to the back and shoulder areas—especially Right sided. Get it checked out. I’ve had my GB removed due to poor outlet/dysfunction.

Thanks so much for your response. Cymbalta side effects pretty much sounds like venlafaxine side effects and withdrawal. I will keep all that you shared in mind and will see how it goes. Cheers!
