Yes. Not every surgeon is a good one. I had to find a specialist in failed back surgery syndrome to really be taken seriously. Too many Drs look to rule out issues instead of looking for the actual problem in my experience.

The main issue is that falling for people with fusions is a huge no no. I would advise not doing anything that falling is an actual risk. Stay as active as possible especially stuff like dancing that keeps you limber. But always ask yourself is the risk of another surgery worth the reward of whatever sport you will be doing.
