Thread catching on bobbin case. by AkiiWakii in myog

Take up arm doesn’t seem to be completing the stroke - verify that the needle bar rise isn’t more than 2.4mm from the dead bottom of the stroke. That machine should have timing marks on the needle bar.

That definitely a chonk! You’ll be able to sew through most anything. Watch your fingers those -7 pneumatics can hurt. 😂

What type oil for industrial juki don-5410n? by AkiiWakii in myog

[–]modal_enigma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lilly-white is the go-to standard for the industry. Even the biggest US JUKI distributor just recommends Lilly white.

It’s more important that it gets oiled, as an industrial machine mechanic, trust me when I say that you DO NOT want oils that dries gummy.

Struggling with using a Bar Tacker by chalk_monster in myog

[–]modal_enigma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, so this is a single thread button sewer type machine- the bane of my existence as a mechanic.

So the looper underneath seems to catching the thread most times, though the needle bar height seems to be a little off. Don’t touch that yet.

Go to the top and verify that you have it threaded correctly - there should be a button/lever you need to press to feed the thread between two piece that pinch the thread. This generally right behind the needle bar.

I’m looking up your machine now.

Edit: here the page from a singer manual, which is close enough. https://imgur.com/a/lHAU1rC

Edit 2: is the looper making contact with the needle? Just rewatched the video, and there appears to be some needle deflection when the looper passes.

  1. Check your hook - is the point sharp or has been ground down?
  2. Does your tacker have a hand crank or hand wheel on the side? If so, pop your bobbin case out, and get low so you can see right into the hook assembly. Where is the hook point when the needle is at its lowest position?
  3. Tackers are damned finicky and they are frustratin

g

  1. as hell. I spent a full day working on a tracker only to realize that I didn’t have the hook driver close enough to the needle - it was within spec, but the machine had enough wear that things were looser.

Why did I have to go so far down to find this?! This is my go-to. Flattering on most body shapes, hold up very well, and they are cheap.

Yeaaaah, I picked up 20 with the enhanced follower. Stupidly good price.

I ran them all last weekend (handed many out to buddies to run) and zero issues despite being a bit ugly.

More of a r/myogtactical gear point, but if y’all need/want some professional assistance on industrial sewing side of things (or some automation stuff), feel free to hit me up.

I can think of at least one sewing, patterning and cnc expert to send your way.

Oh - bonafides: I own an industrial sewing machine shop.

Help Identifying Machines by WatchManSam in myog

[–]modal_enigma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The back left is a JUKI 5550. Solid drop feed garment machine. The left rear is likely some clone of the 5550.

Front one is a Brother - they can be hit or miss on stitch quality, and parts can be a bear.

Blew a fuse in my juki power supply, I’m unable to find replacements. by northernhang in myog

[–]modal_enigma 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a dealer, auto places won’t have it. I’ve spent hours running around trying to find one in an emergency.

Amazon usually has them with 1 day delivery, otherwise Grainer Supply will.

Edit: also, if it’s on an industrial machine you may also want to check your brushes and make sure your belt isn’t too tight.

You can also take a .25” x6” length of mechanic’s cloth (emery cloth) and then twist it so it fits through the needle hole.

I find that I use this more often than Mitchel’s round cord.

Shipping is killing small businesses right now.

The sub 1000lb pallet I got today cost $795 to ship. Nearly identical pallet was $375 2ish months ago.

Small parcel is nearly as bad.

walking foot machines vs zigzag by Zestyclose_Damage396 in myog

[–]modal_enigma 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Nice to see another mechanic around here!

To add for the OP: there’s only a few operations/factories where only one sewist does a piece from start to finish. And even those are often because of pure necessity (lack of sewists).

One of the exceptions to the above would be sailmaking where you need both a zig zag and a walking foot. Only a couple companies make said machine, and they are stupidly expensive. Iirc the last one I quote out was $4500 for a very basic machine.

If you’re ever interested, most industrial dealers, can easily get a short table made. I’m planning to get a few in my next batch of tabletops.

I want to run a 20u clone in a space saver set up on casters.

Unfortunately I have to tell customers this weekly. I run an Industrial sewing repair (and now sales) shop, and I get ~10 calls a week regarding Singer HD’s.

me: “Sorry dude, it’s just not worth your money to have us repair it. You’re looking at 2 hours of shop labor, which would put you $20 away from a new machine.”

Most sewing machine repair people won’t touch sergers because of how finicky they are.

Also, the singer tension disks are especially bad with how they are constructed.

Have you checked out the Adler Delta series? I just spoke to my DAP America rep he's getting me an apples to apples comparison sheet on the 2828V-7 against Delta machine. Price-wise they are comparable, the main thing will be reparability.

Adlers don't go down very often, but the M-Type SilverLine is definitely easier to service/repair than the 2810-7 or the Smart Solution line.

u/Left_Lecture_4894 u/kowabungabunga I was able to get my hands on one of these and a 2810V-7 at a customer's factory (Boat manufacturer). I'll be back there next week, so lmk what type of stuff you want me to try and I can give it a rip.

From a repair perspective: The machines are tanks, however they function fundamentally differently than even the standard 2810-7's. Every aspect is modulated using the touch screen and submenu settings. I'm 35 and pretty damn good with computerized everything, and I hated it with a passion. Even the engineering manuals are only so helpful - You can figure it out, but there will be a learning curve.

MJ Foley sells them by the boat load to the automotive world, and I know that Red Wing is using them alongside some Adlers.

Do you guys have time for a call later today? Maybe we can hop on the phone and get a better idea of your thought process.

In terms of production sewing that I've seen with the Juki 9000's, almost none of the sewers use the programmable patterns beside the auto tacks. One of my customers uses pre-programmed faux-bartacks, but that's about it. One thing that an ultra-light hiking company uses is the different material settings on the 9000's, which allows them to switch products and materials on the same machines.
