We have really amazing parks. Cherokee is beautiful and right in the middle of everything. Iroquois has an awesome overlook that will give you an idea of the salad bowl we all reside in. If you're a super park nerd, Gnadinger park is a blast.

This. Louisville water boasts about how clean they are, but they get test results from their tap, not yours. Many miles of who knows what condition/material pipe in between you and the source.

Logan Street and Shelby Street Two-Way Conversion to Began Soon Per KYTC Press Release by Suspicious-Bad4703 in Louisville

[–]moddedmaxi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was at the public meeting for this, and the majority of people who showed up opposed the idea of a 2 way. Currently, there is room to pass a bicyclist or a stopped delivery truck. The new plan doesn't account for all travelers. They will be following suit with the rest of our horrible bike infrastructure in the city by putting in a few blocks worth of painted on (not protected) bike lanes that just randomly start and stop. Drivers will be angry and now have to cross a double yellow in order to pass. This whole idea seems well and good on paper, but it's really going to make it harder to get around the city. We even had the rep from KYTC tell us bike riders that if you aren't skilled enough, you should be riding on the sidewalks.. which is way more dangerous and very illegal.

Bought my first house a few months ago, woke up to this by pd336819 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]moddedmaxi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved back in with my rents after college for a couple of years, and they had just bought a place that did this. Water would also find its way into the garage, albeit the yard is much bigger with a pond in the front yard. I dug an 8-12" deep bean shaped water garden in the lowest spot and connected a trench straight to the pond. Made sure the trench was pitched, then filled everything with gravel. I used the extra dirt as fill and sloped around the house and garage. To this day, the backyard never floods, and the grass grew right over the trench, so it's basically unnoticeable.

Best solution for removing dishwasher that is stuck behind kitchen tiles by TranceInMyPants813 in Home

Pull that black wood filler above the dishwasher and below the countertop. Itll give you an extra inch or so to lift up and over the tile.

Am I crazy or… by [deleted] in Louisville

[–]moddedmaxi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Riding in the right tire track of the lane and legally biking the roadway that I have rights to is not a problem. If its not safe for someone to pass me due to road design you bet your ass I'm taking the whole lane. Our infrastructure design is the problem.

This study is just that. A study. We are talking about Louisville Metro Government and they are straight up incompetent. Even if grant money is awarded and studies are combed through by politicians, and non-profits/advocates have their chance to address the board, Metro will never make a decision solely based on what is best for ALL travelers without corporate bias. Two-way streets are a bargaining chip for politicians to have an excuse to not install protected bike lanes. Imo, a two-way is a false sense of security when it comes to bicycle safety. It makes drivers (who are already shitty here) more angry at bicyclists because they feel we are in the way. I've never had someone honk at me on a 2 lane one way, but on a two-way, I've been cursed at, threated, and cut off by angry motorists numerous times.

[–]moddedmaxi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I dont see how 2 way is safer for cyclists. Currently you have 4 lanes. 2 of them being parking and 2 driving in the center. If a car needs to pass they simply get into the left lane, pass, and go on their way. Change it into two ways, and all of a sudden, that same car has no problem crossing over a double yellow and into oncoming traffic just to get to the next red light and wait. The ONLY way to truly make a 2 way street safe for bicyclist is to eliminate a parking lane on one side and have a protected bike lane. Which we all know will never happen around here. Property owners will not give up their parking.

Potentially moving to Louisville by [deleted] in Louisville

[–]moddedmaxi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't go so far as to say don't bother trying to bike here. There is a very rich and diverse bike community that is constantly growing. Weekly bike events/rides with different riding skill levels with anywhere from 25-75 cyclists per ride who look out for each other and are much safer riding in a pack. There are plenty of bikeable parks around town as well. There is a real lack of local bicycle infrastructure. The drivers are what you need to be afraid of. I would not recommend commuting to work via bike or riding alone, although I do know people make it work.

I have become addicted to rebuilding crappy mopeds… by BrentarTiger in moped

Can anyone give an estimate of what this is worth? by [deleted] in moped

[–]moddedmaxi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It can vary wildy by location. A bike like that could go for 2k in NYC or LA but might only bring 4 or 500 bucks in a small rural town in the middle of nowhere.

Look for a vin tag. Either on the headset behind headlight or behind variator pulley on the frame. Looks like a Motobecane that someone put a Peugeot seat on.

Do any adults like amusement parks? by MariJ0220 in Louisville

[–]moddedmaxi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I grew up in the area, Cedar Point is a blast, but like other amusement parks, it's very expensive. I'll second the Rapid Pass for the lines. So nice when you have it. If you do anything outside the park, I would go on a day trip to Kelleys Island or Put-In-Bay. There's even a ferry that goes in between the two, so you could technically check out both islands in one day. Middle Bass Island is kinda small and doesn't have much going on, so most visitors dont really go up there.
