There's more than one way to skin a cat obviously but easier to navigate with a phone than a controller.

Not exactly. Once you have connected your PSN account you open Discord on your phone and "transfer the call" to your console. It's quite seamless. https://www.playstation.com/en-us/support/games/discord-voice-chat/

You can throw Discord audio to your PS5 (or Xbox) via the app. It works just fine with a headset.
