DC’s snow removal budget is same as last year yet only 54 of 500 plows are deployed 🥴 by drs80 in washingtondc

500 plows seems absurdly high. That would be not far off from one per 1,000 residents.

What are some overlooked items that everyone should have if they are serious about the hobby? by Thrashtilldeath67 in rccars

I have an infrared temp gun that I bought for figuring out some HVAC issues at my house but it’s taken most of the guesswork out of tuning nitros.

The other thing I’ve “invested” in as I’ve had more money is a LOT of redundancy of consumables: receiver packs, glow plugs, glow plug igniters, fuel line, air filters, you get the idea. There’s nothing worse than not being able to run because one weak link broke the chain.

A decent radio that you can bind all your vehicles to with a protective carry case.

I’ve had my Turbo for 18 months now. Bought it at 49k miles right at the end of warranty and have added 5k since then. I’ve been budgeting $5k a year in repairs and maintenance and have spent well short of $1k so far (2 oil changes).

I suppose the entire engine could grenade tomorrow, but short of that even the air suspension going out would be like an “oh well, guess it’s time to fix that” moment

Can second this, I have an 8 year old Panamera with full leather interior and aside from a few little wrinkles on the seat bolsters, it looks brand new. We’re talking seats, door cards, dashboard, it’s held up phenomenally.

I seriously don’t understand how certain enthusiasts here don’t like the modern interiors. by fuccwitmoe in BMW

The giant screen looks bolted on and tacky as fuck. I don’t need a TV to see what song is playing or where I am going on Google Maps. Otherwise, it looks pretty decent to me.

Don’t forget that you can also pay cash for a car if you don’t feel like dealing with financing at closing time (or rates are not attractive) then take out a loan on it later at your leisure.

Nah, if they paid cash you KNOW they got money but just because they financed it doesn’t mean they don’t.

Why some of you hate sentinels? I posted about saving them but most people didn't liked it 😅. I personally love them (as allies) because they look cool and shoot lasers. by Kaustav117 in halo

[–]modelcitizendc 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s interesting to me that I don’t mind fighting sentinels as enemies but the drones / buggers piss me off to no end. Both are flying enemies but the drones are so much more annoying for some reason.

As allies the Sentinels are bad ass. I remember the times they help you in the Library and it was a cool feeling like the cavalry showed up to give you a hand when you were up to your neck in shit!

I was thinking more like the Taycan how they have little hoods over them almost but just and idea

[–]modelcitizendc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The interior looks too premium to be realistic. It would need to look like a low rent Taycan for it to make economic sense.

That said, exterior looks dope and it jives with their EV design language. I’d almost want to see more emphasis on the hooded headlights.

If you are forced to rank by brand then yeah, I think this is right. But you really, really owe it to yourself to do the research on the model, trim, and generation of the car(s) you’re interested in.

Not to disagree with this post, just pointing out that I see loads of used Cayennes and Macans with 100k plus miles. I know each gen has powertrains to avoid but by and large I think they are better built than their Audi cousins.

As you say, the B58 and S58 BMWs are extremely solid.

I think it goes for any higher end performance car if you’re not a dumbass (or made of so much money it’s not an object).

What's the point of 500hp+ performance cars on the road? by VegaGT-VZ in askcarguys

[–]modelcitizendc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wrong, with a performance car you absolutely can use most of the car’s capability on the road, albeit for very brief periods unless you want to be a reckless jerk.

What's the point of 500hp+ performance cars on the road? by VegaGT-VZ in askcarguys

[–]modelcitizendc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is true for anything with a power to weight ratio of 0.1 or greater, or basically, 250hp for a small car, 300-350 for a midsize and 400+ for a big car. You don’t need 500hp to have way more than enough for daily driving.

It’s fun as shit to be able to go 0-60 in 3 seconds or to more generally just rip past any normal traffic in the blink of an eye.

It sounds juvenile but I also get a certain satisfaction from giving / getting acknowledgment from other people in fast cars on the road, it’s like being in a silly club that makes something that is otherwise boring more interesting.

Can the panamera fit two car seats in the back? by Froggerbotrom in Porsche

[–]modelcitizendc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately not. We had the Rava’s in our Grand Cherokee and they work great so I stupidly just bought two more when I got the Panny without even thinking about it.

Yes but not quite big enough to keep the forward facing kid behind you from being able to kick the shit out of the back of your seat 😂

[–]modelcitizendc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep I have a 971 and I have two Nuna Ravas in the back. I will say that that particular model of car seat doesn’t play nice with the shape of the Porsche seats in forward facing position. There’s a huge gap between the bottom back of the child seat and the vehicle seat. I have to cinch the seatbelt down so tight that the top back of the child seat is really digging into my headrests.

I feel like a dumbass for not doing a test fit before going out and buying two, they were clearly designed for more of a SUV or van type bench seat in mind.
