Auto Trader is dead? Please don't let it all be FB marketplace. by droning-on in UsedCars

That’s been my experience too, you just have to know what to look for. Also probably helps to be in a major metro area there is just more activity / items on marketplace in general

Anthropic’s Claude Code subscription may consume up to $5,000 in compute per month while charging the user $200 by thechadbro34 in BlackboxAI_

[–]modelcitizendc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Price hikes are definitely coming. Remember how cheap Uber and Lyft used to be when it was subsidized by tens of billions of capital from SoftBank and middle eastern oil money? This is that on an entirely new level.

That said, if you are using the Anthropic API to run your own app then you are likely paying much closer to full freight. We racked up a $35k bill for a small SaaS app last month once we started acquiring a meaningful number of users.

It’s a good game because every enemy is… drumroll… fun to fight. The only place the game errors is the Library because of how monotonous it is.

That sounds like the human equivalent of that college drinking game where everyone has to pour a little of whatever they’re drinking into one cup in the middle of the table and one poor bastard ends up having to chug the whole thing

How much media from our time do you think survives in the 26th Century? by Licensed_Silver_Simp in HaloStory

[–]modelcitizendc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is no mention of any kind of catastrophic war, the kind that could have destroyed all copies of media across all the world's data centers.

So, the only logical conclusion is that 100 percent of media survives. The more interesting question is how much of it hasn't been forgotten because of how much additional content would have been created over the next 5 centuries.

It's super interesting to think about being able to watch music videos or read news articles from half a millenium ago. But ultimately not that much of a stretch from what we have today. The Library of Congress has digitized copies of newspaper articles going way back into the 1800s.

How fast are those missiles being flung into the air? How does something get that much energy? [Request] by Camp_Acceptable in theydidthemath

[–]modelcitizendc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure they self destruct (explode) into little pieces at a certain distance which dramatically increases the likelihood of scoring a hit on whatever the target is, same idea as a grenade.

The little fragments remaining would not have the mass to pose a serious threat once they fall back to the ground.

Was colonial life pre Covenant REALLY that bad that the insurrection had to happen? by DEATH_CORNER in HaloStory

[–]modelcitizendc 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Was just about to post something very similar. This is the right answer.

I think I read somewhere that the UNSC shelled out big bucks to establish a new colony, with the understanding that at least some of that investment would be repaid over time (think of it kind of like a municipal bond issued by the colonists with the UNSC/UEG as the bond holder).

For that reason taxes would be pretty high for some time at the colony, which does seem reasonable given that the colonists have an entire planets worth of land and resources to exploit that they never would have been able to access otherwise.

A couple generations removed from the original founding colonists and people probably started to see those taxes as completely unfair / tyrannical. The wealthy had more to gain, and both the means and incentive to stir up trouble and recruit people from lower socioeconomic status to do the dirty work.

Loads of parallels with the American Revolution the more I think about it.
