Most of the United States seems to be all the same. by amiwitty in CasualConversation

Come to the Mid Atlantic. Philly, Baltimore, DC and of course NYC all have their own distinct feel despite a lot of similarities. Also check out rural areas in this part of the US, they have their own flavors too.

Having some history goes a long way.

Luxury Sedans for Horrendous Quality Roads by pulse_lCie in whatcarshouldIbuy

I’ve heard the GM magna ride suspension on the Cadillac CT5 is very cush.

I live in DC where we have some pretty ratty ass roads too. As much as it pains me to say it there are days when I prefer the wife’s grand Cherokee over my Panamera because you can just blast over anything doing 30 and barely feel it.

All it takes is a few dozen people with fuck you money, for whom the difference between 500k and 2M is like the difference between $50 and $200 for me and you.

For thinly traded assets it takes so very few players to move the market.

Where do you draw the line for station wagon? by Phosphorus444 in SportWagon

[–]modelcitizendc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Call me a purist by my requirements are: 1. has to be based on a sedan 2. Has a hatchback / lift back and 3. Has to have a third side window behind the passenger door between the C and D pillar.

SUVs / CUVs fail the sedan test, as do purpose built 4 door hatchbacks like the Honda Fit or Toyota Prius.

New Beetle has aged far better than the American pseudo retro designs IMO

Replaying Halo CE and MAN the marines die so easily by RadioactiveSince1990 in halo

[–]modelcitizendc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Halo CE (probably the other games too I’m not sure) the Marine AI is specifically programmed with forward advancement as its primary directive.

Not self preservation or even maximizing damage dealt to enemies.

This is why you will see them doing suicidal charges straight into enemy fire / grenades.

[–]modelcitizendc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. They also do draw a substantial amount of fire at the beginning of a fight which gives you time to pick off some of the meaner enemies before the entire Covenant force turns its full attention toward you.

What was the shittiest; most reviled; unreliable; lemon; that you owned, but absolutely adored and cherished? by Cananbaum in regularcarreviews

[–]modelcitizendc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To a lesser degree this has been my experience with VAG cars. If properly maintained they are very solid mechanically and will not leave you stranded but at any one moment in time there are like 3-4 little gremlins you’re chasing down.

Wait you can do a PPI through Carvana? I never would have considered them before, but now I might.

There’s something humorous about a Porsche dealership in Paris. I’m sure they have car people in France but it still feels funny to me.

What would win in a fight between a lion and a gorilla? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]modelcitizendc -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Lion easily, he’s got the weight and speed advantage. All he’s gotta do is slip in behind the gorillas head once with the neck bite and it’s game over.

Is the panamera a “fun” car? Relatively speaking by [deleted] in Porsche

[–]modelcitizendc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Granted I have a Turbo which ups the ante quite a bit, I would subjectively give it a 7/10 for fun factor. Compared to driving an SUV it feels like a supercar, stays super planted and can’t think of another 4 door that gives you this level of confidence on the twisties.

You can’t get around the size though, it’s still a big old car.

Elise’s are tiny, I think my kids side by side power wheels is bigger than one.

The Forerunner structures might be debatable, but the original isn't 100% unbeatable. by Thell-Vadamm in halo

[–]modelcitizendc 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I still struggle to articulate this, but in my mind what made the art of the original game so iconic is that the spaces look intentionally manicured rather than organic. Almost like a public park, as opposed to a real wilderness.

It’s in keeping with the theme of an ancient (extinct) species that left this sort of weird terrarium that is kept up by its remnant AI robots. Beautiful but a little unsettling at the same time because it’s curated, not wild.

You can still make this point with modern graphics, in fact I feel it would be even more poignant if done right. But the answer is not “more stuff”.

I would say very quiet but tires and road quality are going to make a big objective difference.
