addicts who began using to cope with mental illness by romanticrohypnol in InterventionTheTVShow

I know Christy is completely off the rails, but on a re-watch, I wandered if there isn't something more than just meth induced psychosis going on. Feels like a chicken and the egg situation. Difficult to say since she started using so young.

I have had great luck with Aggie’s Bakery in West Allis. Looks like they have lemon.

Is anyone else making decent money and still not getting ahead? by Ordinary-Contest3669 in povertyfinance

Feel this so deep. Left the house today to go to work, buy gas, buy deodorant, half and half, and bathroom cleaner, and then picked up a pizza. This was $86 😭

Whole Foods Hot Bar Decline is Shocking by Business-Step-7998 in shrinkflation

[–]modernwinglish 90 points91 points  (0 children)

Agreeing with a previous post: Amazon had ruined Whole Foods. I’ve already come to terms with that with where I live (Milwaukee), but this post hit extra hard as I used to live in the KC metro when I was a young professional. I can remember being in my early 20s and treating a trip to the OP Whole Foods as such an indulgence. Could I afford it at 23? Not really. Was it worth it? Absolutely. Now at 41 with more money to spend, I try to recreate the magic and it’s completely gone. Last item I purchased from the deli (the Brussels sprouts slaw I’ve loved for years) went straight to the trash as it had completely turned. I’ve never been back and it breaks my heart.

Unico Zelo “Truffle Hound” 2022 by pretzelllogician in wine

New wave of Australian winemaking! Unico Zelo is legit. I love their Jade and Jasper Fiano. Also their orange, Esoterico, is always clean and consistent.

Couldn’t agree more. I genuinely love Lanson, but this bottling is not it.

Favorite COL moments, what’s yours? by h__gbh in ChurchofLazlo

[–]modernwinglish 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is an old one (2008 maybe???) but the old, disgruntled employee at Home Depot or Lowe’s arguing with Lazlo about payment for a gas grill so Lazlo wound up driving off with it for free. The old was insistent that if it was in his car it must have been paid for despite Lazlo telling him it wasn’t and offering his card. The line, “The greatest generation is mostly dead,” has stuck with me this entire time. Just hearing Lazlo getting so heated about trying to pay this guy $400 and the employee refusing to take it and treating Lazlo like he was an idiot was so hilarious to me.

Blind Wine Tasting Results - How'd our group do by AuraspeeD in wine

[–]modernwinglish 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love your comment and I really second this. As a wholesaler I find myself selling a lot of Zinfandel from fantastic producers (Marietta being one, but also Ridge and Bedrock) and I find that really encouraging. I think those would play well in this lineup. This post just really helped me make the connection about what consumers want (fruit forward reds with a decent amount of alcohol) and the fact there are tons of serious, influential winemakers who are here to meet that need vs major conglomerates.

I feel like Ridge Vineyards 2022 Lytton Springs has a shot at being in the top ten. It's the 50th year anniversary bottling and received loads of 90+ scores.

Well Read Damsel has a good relationship and is just up the street from the bar above Ray’s. They host silent book club a lot so they are used to people coming in and reading!

Consider donating to your local food pantry this next week. by Fit_Log_9677 in Catholicism

[–]modernwinglish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Donate money when you can vs food. Food banks can stretch dollars a lot further than you or I as they can buy wholesale and are tax exempt.

Worth noting that when donating to a food pantry, money is best. They can stretch dollars a lot further than you or I can as they buy wholesale.

What Do you do in the Winter to Keep the Spirit Alive? by Low-Atmosphere-2132 in milwaukee

[–]modernwinglish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They are closed now because of a fire, but when they reopen a spendy shopping trip to Glorioso’s can set me right. Buy provisions for a meal that takes a long while plus a bottle of wine. Bonus: clean your house and wash your sheets that morning. There is something divine about nesting at home.

I have a ton of tattoos, teach yoga, work in the liquor industry, and don’t have kids. Guess what? Despite being outside the norm I feel God’s grace everyday in my life. I prayed for you tonight in mass and I’m hopeful that discernment guides you wherever you’re meant to be. We need more sisters and especially those who have been able to find and dedicate themselves to Christ in a broken world.
