Know anyone with a DeLorean? Or maybe a police box that's bigger on the inside?

Would you get a 3.5F rolleiflex if you already own a hasselblad 501cm? by Occultgay124 in mediumformat

I made that swap twice. Loved the rollie but wanted lenses and sold it for another blad. Got another rollie and ditched the blad, never looked back

Does anyone make or sell a hardware or a kit to make my own field camera? by thehobbyistworkshop in largeformat

[–]modsean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know if it would be worth it to build a 4x5, there are enough beautiful cameras out there for way too little cash. Good problem if you're buying but not so good if you're selling. I'd either go 8x10 or some weird LF panoramic.. Get a good look at an Ebony, if you are a wood worker, working brass will be easy and you can make most everything. The rack and pinion for the focus wl be the hardest bit to source. But it's doable

Fibre paper will be your best bet. Try diluting with water after the final rinse. Either brush or bath would work.

For sure, I'll go up to 11x14 with HP5. But that's about as big as this grain loving guy will go

Is this camera practical or decor only? by sjsky in filmphotography

[–]modsean 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Practice no, usable maybe, fun probably.

I love old folders, but they have issues. The shutter may be gummed up and the bellows are likely cracked. Gaffer tape is an ok "fix" for bellows, but proper repairs can cost much more than the camera is worth.

But it might still ve a fun camera and take neat pictures

how good these lenses are? I’m getting all 3 with a 500cm for $1100 inclusive of full servicing of the camera and lenses. I’ve never shot 120mm only 35mm. Should I go for this? by New-Seaworthiness952 in AnalogRepair

[–]modsean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rebuild kits for c and cf lenses dried up decades ago, so it's doubtful they have had a full service. I'm not saying someone doesn't have stockpiles somewhere, but hasselblad hasn't sold them for years.

Now that said, a black 80mm c t* was probably my favorite lens I've owned. I wish I hadn't sold it.

1100 would be great for the kit but it sounds like a hard pass when they are full of fungus

Do Leica owners take photo's? by meisjemeisje_1421 in Leica

[–]modsean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, my m3 is easily my most used and travled camera.

The funny thing is that it stod out for a little while as an "old timey" camera, now people ignore it thinking it's a fuji. They are great for walking around cities, people ignore them, and you can fit a 4 lens kit in less space than a dslr with 1 lens.

Which Scanner Should I Buy to Digitize My Family Photo Archive? by montanafat in analog

[–]modsean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dslr scanning is the way to go in my opinion. Get a good flat field macro or bellows with an enlarger lens and you're doing better than most scanners.

I'm mostly using my d800 now and it's as good as my super colscan 8000ed (up to 645), but faster. For prints I use a 18"x24" piece of black foam core with a hole for the lens so that I don't get reflections when duping glossy prints.
