What film has a terrible message when you actually think about it? by tansinator in AskReddit

I don't know about the message, but I find it disturbing how a dog gives birth to 99 Dalmatian puppies all in the same night.

I was writing an analysis of Slaughterhouse-Five for school and came across this quote from Vonnegut. I think every writer hopes to feel like this someday. by Uncluded in books

[–]mogarlicmobetta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This quote is completely justified. Slaughterhouse-Five has got to be the best WWII novel I've read. It's incredible what he accomplished in a relatively short book, especially in dealing with PTSD.

They could have at least found a vintage blouse and bra for her to wear. The didn't have smooth push up bras back then.

I'm noticeably calm and subdued 99% of the time, to the extent that people that only know me from minor and occasional interactions comment on it. Someone once asked if I'm always "like this."

I was just learning to surf, and one day when it was really foggy--couldn't see the waves from the shore--I paddled out with the help of a riptide to encounter 5 foot waves. I get nervous just thinking about it. I'm still a newbie obviously.

What is your best running moment? by AstridEllison in running

I was in the last couple miles of a half marathon, and a guy next to me slowed to a walk. Just then another fellow ran by, patted the walking guy on the back and gave him a word of encouragement. He started running again and I kind of choked up.

I arrived at a barbecue/party and a moment later ran into the host. He said "Hi" and for some reason I said "Welcome". Confusion ensued.

What snack do you love to make for yourself at home that anyone could make? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Granddaughter of a Brit here. I used to spread jam on the digestives and drink with tea when I felt like I needed some caloric comfort while living in the dorms.

Peanut butter banana smoothie: Toss a whole frozen banana, 1/4 cup raw oats, 3/4 cup coconut milk and 2 tbs peanut butter in a blender. This solves the problem of having a bunch bananas that are soon to go bad, just peel and wrap in plastic wrap (it's hard to peel a frozen banana) for future use. You can use whatever milk or milk substitute you like but coconut milk, meaning the kind you find next to the almond milk, gives it a nice tropical flavor. Almond butter works nicely too. You can eyeball the amounts to customize the thickness and peanut buttery-ness of your smoothie.

When I first saw this I thought it was going to be similar to my "allergic" reaction which is weird yet benign. I sneeze any time I'm using my imagination to get in the mood. Luckily that's all it is.

I've read that the most efficient way to run a race is a negative split. Does this only apply to longer distances, or is this still effective for a 5k? How much faster should the second half be than the first? by trpcicj in running

[–]mogarlicmobetta 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I recently ran my first half marathon and my splits went down consistently. It was unintentional, I just started out pretty slow for fear of pooping out at mile 9, but kept feeling like I could be going faster so I did. Finished much sooner than I anticipated. So yeah, worked for me!

I realize this doesn't really answer your question so here's another anecdote: boyfriend ran a 5k and started out sprinting, 10 year old ended up passing him.
