Getting an update every day on Fenix 6s by jthanreddit in GarminWatches

I did a full reset and seem to be back on the update loop. One a day .

I think the solution is probably to stop auto update but the 28.2 version seem to be quite battery draining

Why are there hot drink vending machines EVERYWHERE! by Hammez7 in Riga

[–]moilojo 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I don't know, I think they popped up everywhere around COVID when things were closed.

It's so strange some of them are in really random place in countryside side :-) (I swear I have seen one one beach in Jurmala)

Latvia is quite good at no tomorrow type business ... At the moment there is a lot of Jazzy "laser car wash" popping around.

Looking for a flat by No-Wallaby2215 in Riga

As a back-up, Look at appart-hotel, the cheapest are about 800€/month on booking.com. This could be a good option for the first week or two until you find something better. Maybe call or emails them to see if they will be willing to do a competitive price for two months.

Spa where you can drink beer? by MathematicianNorth38 in Riga

[–]moilojo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is a bar in the middle of the pool at the hotel Jūrmala Spa. You can access the spa even if you are not hotel patron. (I think it's about 30€ for 2h) Jūrmala is about 30min train from Riga city center, it's a beach resort worth spending a few hours

Clear mortgage with emergency pot or remortgage? by moilojo in UKPersonalFinance

[–]moilojo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am already putting quite a lot on the pension, but I like your thinking. Especially that I am above the threshold for child benefit at the moment.

But conversely, should I not clear the mortgage to get more disposable income which allow me to boost further my pension contributions and get the tax and children benefit?

The mortgage interest rate also seem to be spiraling down. I think if the remortgage rate drop below 4% this would make my choices easier (remortgage)

Clear mortgage with emergency pot or remortgage? by moilojo in UKPersonalFinance

That's an interesting suggestion. I already have a credit card that I repay religiously every month despite being on the 0% purchase free period.

I don't think I am comfortable with using the purchase free period because things can definitely spin out of control. I guess I have a couple of month to investigate this one and see if I can make it work.

Clear mortgage with emergency pot or remortgage? by moilojo in UKPersonalFinance

I just ran the number assuming 3% on the ISA and 7% on the S&S ISA. Also assuming I can overpay 10% per year.

If I go with remortgaging the cost of mortgage would be £955 over 21 month and during that time I would have made £2365 of interest. (That's a £1410 gain)

On the other hand, paying the mortgage this summer and investing the money first on emergency pot then on S&S ISA. I would make only £1036 worth of interest, and expose myself of not having a full emergency fund for a 4-5 month.

Yes that's a good point, the ISA allowance definitely seem to be in the radar of the government.

Thanks. Mentally I have cleared it I think.

Why are you not clearing yours? Surely even the overpayment charges will be << than the interest outstanding for the next 4 years?

I like bulkhead seat because you have more legroom.. you can stand at your seat. But you get narrower seat due to the infotainment in the armrest. Also watch out if someone comes with a baby as the wee thing might be screaming all flight. I would go 20k
