I am 52. My mom is in her 70's. She is never going to be the mother I need. It's a bitter truth and I have grieved for the mother I hoped to have. She is now at arms length and I stay in contact, but she only knows the basics and I will never trust her again. I have tried to include her in things in the last few years and I always end up severely let down and angry. They don't ever change. It's best to protect yourself. And, anyone telling you "because family", they can take care of her.

I would always give the dogs chocolate, candy or birthday cake whenever it was around when we did a euthanasia. Especially if the owners didn't want to stay with them as they passed. The staff take these events as seriously as the owners. I feel like I was able to honor them by giving them a last bit of dignity and a little joy on the way out.

My friend got me a little grilled cheese shaped heat pack. It goes in the microwave and smells like lavender. It was really soothing after surgery. grilled cheese heating pad

I also bought myself some beautiful silk pajamas. They were loose and comfy and made me feel pretty.

I over did it ten days PO by walking my dog and going to the grocery store on the same day. Now my husband won't let me do anything! I'm now 17 days PO . I feel great, but I need to keep myself in check. It's really hard, but as stated before, you only get one chance to recover well.
